  1. Ok my little C-Max was put to the test this week.  We had a blizzard warning on Wednesday and received 12" of snow.  No, I didn't attempt to drive it in that.  I waited until the following day after the plow trucks came through.  I still had a couple of snow drifts to get through which proved to be no problem.  I still can't get the Traction control light to come on.  I double checked that the Traction Control system was indeed turned on.

We are still driving around the neighborhoods and parking lots with lots of ice and slush but I have managed to get everywhere I needed to go.  So far, so good!

  2. Ok hear with me as I'm not a car person or a detailer. When using the clay bar, do you put the clay on a rag and then onto the car or do you rub the bar on the car? Totally clueless and haven't bought it yet to be able to read the directions. Do you need an electric buffer to take it off?

Ok you can all stop laughing now and return to your regular programming. Haha

  3. JulieB just play with it a bit before you get out on the open road. I was still pretty cautious but that is just me. I drive like a grandma in snow. I actually drove about 50 miles round trip DURING the storm on Thursday in high winds. It was 35 mph sustained winds with 60 mph gusts. The wind bothered me waaaay more than the snow. Had ridiculous headwinds going and a great tailwind coming home. Winds stayed up the next day too and a huge drop in temps. Highs only in the 20's for 2 days now. Between the wind and cold temps it has killed my mpg. :-(

  4. We had 2-3" of a heavy wet snow on Thursday night.  Drove the C-Max in to work yesterday morning.  I have the factory tires on it and it did really well.  I played a little bit before I got out of my neighborhood.  ABS brakes work well but I too wasn't impressed with the traction control system.  Tires spun a little and the traction control light didn't even come on.  Same thing this morning.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am terrified of driving in snow/ice. This is the first time I've felt comfortable driving in it since we had our little BMW 325 manual.

  5. When we were looking, we drove the Ford Fusion Hybrid first.  Very nice car, quiet and smooth ride.  Didn't like the 2 level trunk though. Plus I was looking for any reason not to like the Ford, a friend had just recently purchase a Prius C and I was in love with them. She had taken me for a ride in it but I hadn't driven it. After we drove the Fusion, we went that night and she let me drive the Prius. I was still sold on the Prius.  I liked their displays better and I didn't want another mid-size car (was going to be trading a Hyundai XG350L). Plus when I would pull out from a complete stop the ICE kicked in EVERY time in the Fusion.  On our way back into the dealership from driving the Fusion we saw the C-Max but they didn't have one with all the options I was looking at.  They had one that was due in the following week.  Went and test drove it the day it came off the truck.  I was sold! Love this little hunk of a car. Went 475 miles on the first tank of gas and filled up really before I had to. Could have easily done over 500.

Congrats on your new one. Happy Posting!

  6. This happened to me yesterday morning. I got in the car and the time was close to when I shut the car off on Friday night. Then later in the day I was leaving a store and the service engine soon light came on but I think it was because I put the car in gear before it said ready. Shut the car off and turned back on and it was fine.

  7. Is Eco cruise just another name for cruise control? If so, I haven't found an advantage to it yet. When set at 60mph the only time it switches to EV is on a downhill slope. I have tried setting it when cruising along in EV mode even and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Am I missing something?

  9. I have driven my new C-Max for 4 days and I am loving it. Several trips I have been over the rated mpg. I've seen 52 and even saw a 70+ trip. Granted they weren't long trip but several miles each. My lifetime mpg average is at 35.5 and climbing. The car had 3.4 miles on it when I got it and I'm at 250 or so now. Haven't even used a half a tank of gas yet.

    Totally love it!

  10. Picked up our CMax last night.  It came with carpeted floor mats.  I got them to throw in a rubber cargo mat.  I'm headed out today to get different floor mats that will hopefully keep the light stone carpet a little cleaner. I would really like a set of the weathertech floor liners but that will have to wait for a while.

  11. Wow! Thanks Jus-A-Cmax!  I have already picked up a few tips.  It was really cold for my drive in this morning. So I turned off the climate control and turned on the seat heater in order to get more miles in EV mode until the motor warmed up.  VERY good tip!!! I will definitely look at window tinting.  I would rather get it done after market vs. paying dealer price for it.

My last car was a white pearlescent paint job.  Really liked it. That car hated cold weather though.  It ran like crap if it was cold outside. Poor thing...last night was the first night in 7 years she sat out in the cold instead of a garage.

Read the high points of the manual.  We didn't get home with the car until 8:15 last night so I didn't have time to get through the whole manual.  But it will get read today no doubt.

  12. Thanks guys! I'm so excited. I feel like a kid at Christmas. Haha we picked it up tonight and we just drove through a drive through for food and came home. I almost can't wait to drive to drive to work in the morning. Notice I said almost. Hahaha

I am new to hybrids as well so I'm anxious to learn as much as I can as quick as I can so I can get those MPGs up.

You will live the Ice Storm color. One direction it looks pale silvery blue, another way looks good and in my garage it looks green. I'll see if I can post the picture I took tonight.
