  1. Okay, not that I would ever do something like this but my natural curiosity leads me to wonder what the heck you are talking about -- is this "Torque" thing you talk of some sort of hardware piece you add (like to the computer port of the car) that then produces information you can use? I've never heard of it and a web search doesn't reveal anything useful to this old mind.
  2. That's probably the better question -- has *anyone* had a battery issue where the car was left alone for less than 8 hours or so? I'm not so sure what that would tell anyone but it *is* a piece of information that might help with the puzzle.
  3. Nah, they were probably just turning on the car and running the A/C and/or heat to cool or heat up the interior <bg>.
  4. Publix prices aren't any higher than Winn-Dixie (and they often have BOGOs on stuff I buy all the time, which are *real* steals -- I've saved up to $100 just on those some weeks). While they say they are competitive with Wally-World I do think WW is cheaper overall (except without the BOGOs) but I would never do my grocery shopping there. And I love the Publix Delis -- best cheese and meat you can get. Their bakery also blows away any other store I've ever shopped at (in over half a century). They will even bake custom stuff for you (so I've had them make, for example, Rye rolls) for no more than the cost of the regular stuff. Really hard to beat them in any aspect (although I do admit I stop at Winn-Dixie from time to time for their rotisserie turkey. Love that stuff!). However -- Rick, I've found that you absolutely *cannot* argue with the wife. Kind of like the old one where she says "Don't confuse me with the facts!!" So, I would NOT recommend you point out that overall Publix isn't any higher in prices (and may be lower) because it's a lose/lose proposition (in my household I do all the shopping -- well, I'm retired and I have plenty of time, but I also like controlling how the money is spent, although I tell my wife *I'M* doing her a favor :>).
  5. Oddly enough (mostly because I'm not a beer drinker and thus never buy any -- we're hosting tennis Monday for another community and they want to have beer there for folks afterwards so I picked up some today) beer was part of my shopping today and the gal checking me out told me that it could not be used towards the gas card purchases (IOW, the $50 you have to spend to quality for one card). I quipped that's most likely because they don't want to encourage drinking and driving ("Hey, you with the beer in your cart! We are NOT selling you any gas cards!") I have enough cards now to literally last me through until next summer, based on the miles I drive, and Maximis' lean tastes. The gas card deal is through Sunday, so for those of you who can take advantage you really ought to.
  6. Kind of reminds me of the guy who, when knocked down by a trucker, was asked if he got the license plate. "No", he said, "but I'd remember that laugh anywhere."
  7. Today when doing the shopping I saw that Publix had gas cards on sale in our area. I checked and this deal is also good in Miami (and I know we have at least one other C-Max owner there) as well as the Atlanta area (ditto). If you are near a Publix I would suspect you also get the same deal. You get $10 off a $50 gas card (it's a coupon deal but like all supermarkets they will normally get the coupons for you, or have them in the front of the store). The cards come for various stations (but I always get Shell cards). You can buy as many cards as you have multiples of $50 in your grocery order (so I spent $150+ in groceries and bought 3 gas cards as well). In essence you get 20% off gas, so right now gas is effectively around $2.50 for me. Combined with Maximis sipping of it, I feel like I can drive *anywhere*. If you use gas I cannot absolutely understand why you wouldn't want to take advantage of this deal (which occurs at least once a month, and sometimes more frequently).
  8. Ah, but that's not the NYC Limited Edition Model, where it speeds up when someone steps in front of the car.
  9. We had the "off route" and told the service department about the two TSBs that covered this and when we picked up Maximis all was well (and has been, at least with that, ever since). Doesn't hurt to mention them (I think you've probably seen that thread but can easily find it if not).
  10. Yeah, but I suspect if it keeps happening it will be one of those "gee, it doesn't do it when WE look at it" sort of problems. IOW, impossible to fix and/or troubleshoot. I'll keep my fingers crossed it doesn't happen again (and that it isn't related to me plugging in a large USB drive, which I had to do because for some reason it wouldn't read my "normal" USB stick).
  11. So this morning on my drive to tennis (number one -- I'm playing again in two hours. Sigh) the MFT shuts down and the amber light is lit on the dash. I press this button and the word "SYNC" shows up for a bit and then it says "Performing Scheduled Maintenance". Really? Progress bar took about two minutes to finish. Is there a schedule going on here? WTF was it doing? One thing is for sure, after it came back my drive (which had been previously indexed and commands set) had to reindex itself all over again (it's a BIG drive so it takes a while). It also appeared that my EV+ wasn't working (when I came back home it didn't kick in as it always does a few blocks from my house). Anyone else have this? Or have a clue as to what's going on? If this was one of my computers I'd think it was performing an update (MS LOVES those updates, particularly ones out of your control). But I thought I had the latest software (yeah, not the latest that's in beta, but the one that everyone else has). And an update shouldn't lose saved points, of course, although it looks like this one has.
  12. Actually, I take that back. What I really meant was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ax96iVmTCI Jack Handey actually had a lot of these. In their own way, equally profound.
  13. I think that was my first reaction as well (that and the obviously wrong thought that waiting at a stop sign would be a Good Thing to do with no EV). I probably overreacted, but just as kids are more likely to think they have something important to say, so are old folks (and more prone to being grumpy). That said... perhaps he was being ironic, or meant it to be funny. Humor is a *very* difficult thing -- for some reason this reminded me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ldAQ6Rh5ZI
  14. I really like winter in Florida, and I suspect my mpg will go up regardless of the gas (because, well, no A/C and no heat required). Yeah, the engine might not get as warm as it would otherwise, but since it needs to get a LOT hotter than even 90 degrees I don't think that's much of a factor here.
  15. Then I'm truly sorry for him (and after I posted I realized that it *might* have been the OP who did this, and for that I'm truly sorry. I would never want to be so harsh for anyone who belongs here. So perhaps let's just amend my comments to say I am confused about driving a hybrid if this guy is correct in his profound thoughts). (Oh, and it's no excuse but I'm a grumpy old man whose picture to the left is NOT a drawing but an actual photograph).
  16. So I'm guessing this guy is a Prius driver -- because he's an idiot. "It's beneficial to use the electricity sooner than later... because maybe you run into a stop sign, maybe you run into traffic... all of a sudden you're burning gas". So his thought process is that you want to always use up all that electricity you have because you may have to stop and so it's better to run the ICE? Either he or I do not understand the basics of hybrid driving (and if it's me, then someone needs to explain to me why stop and go traffic favors the hybrid in every case). Perhaps his guy needed to spend his quiet time... BEING QUIET.
  17. Again, talking to the wrong demographic here. The rains ALWAYS come in, all year around (not *quite* as bad as, say, Seattle, but you get the general idea). If anything, it will rain *less* after the fall leaves happen here (because that's also the end of hurricane season). But as I allude, it's good advice even for us here and I will try and remember to revisit this thread in a few months.
  18. Good to know, although here we'd probably have to wait at least until the end of November (fall doesn't really start in Florida until October, so no real leaves/foliage drops for a few months). I'll try and remember and do it then.
  19. That's what I'm hoping (we've already ordered two of the new phones).
  20. I can tell you that after I had the dealership do whatever it was they did to it (when I picked it up the guy who had worked on it wasn't there so I never did find out what it was they did, although I mentioned the TSBs this thread refers to and said they should apply those if they weren't there already) it has worked perfectly since. And since it was definitely NOT working at all (that is, wandering off every time we drove more than 20 miles) and since it has worked for nearly 2K more miles I'm pretty confident it was one or both of those TSBs that fixed it. So you should be okay if they apply those (my car was a 2014 with the A5 card and still had those issues, so I'm fairly sure your own vehicle has not had those fixes applied to it).
  21. I did see that Lowe's lists them online as being available in store, so I'll just drop by tomorrow and see.
  22. Thanks for all the feedback. I was starting to feel like there was something wrong in me wanting to talk to another C-Max owner (or even, worse, that we "hybrid" owners weren't good enough for the Energi ones to talk to). Look, almost any other vehicle I've owned I haven't felt a need to talk to like-minded owners. But the C-Max IS a special case, and it isn't as if everyone is driving one around here were I live (this is first one I've seen outside of mine). So I got a little excited and thought it would be a nice shared experience. But that's okay -- we all get different things out of our purchases, even if shared experiences isn't always one of them.
  23. Oh, I wasn't trying to offend anyone. Just trying to figure out what was going on -- and maybe an Energi owner would drop in here and tell me *I* was being silly. Or maybe, just maybe, when you get 70+ mpg you really don't need to talk about it (I don't know -- perhaps when you get that much mpg you get rather bored and above it all. I could see that -- me as silly "wow I got 44 mpg average" being just a little too excited. I really would like to get that kind of perspective).
