  1. Both were off when I originally picked up the car. I have had them on since then.
  2. Has anyone had a dead battery in a location other than their house? Seems like almost everyone is finding the CMax dead in their garage (as all 3 of my failures)... - As wrbrooks suggested - could EV+ be continuing to search using GPS thru the night? - Could bluetooth be searching for our smartphones that are possibly in range thru the night? Another question we may ask is if all/some failures are occurring with paired smartphones? I just left the car at an airport for a week, and it started right up. Wondering if this would be the case if it was left at home? More food for thought....
  3. Thanks for the info, I was mistaken, 13-04-13 was done on May 8 with the 13-5-1. I don't have MFT. Just got my CMax back from my dealer, and below is my service report info: My complaint: "Battery dead third time since owned vehicle. First time since tsb performed. Lost Bluetooth, steering wheel buttons left side working intermittently" Included my case number with Ford Customer Service. Dealer: "Unable to verify Customer concern. Performed ECC test, found low batt codes for ABS module. Performed Battery test, passed battery test, performed paracidic draw test, found .010 amp draw, well within spec, may have interm concern drawing on battery, will need to continue testing once response from tech line advises which direction to go in. Was advised by Ford tech line to check connectors, C140, C1812, C1651, C134 for water intrusion - Found no water intrusion in connectors but did find that top of box for PCM is not sealed. Top of box has warped allowing water to enter box and into PCM cavity. Removed Left front Inner fender well to access PCM, removed, found no corrosion in pins for PCM connectors, No water in connectors at this time. It is raining today, so I am making sure to go thru every possible puddle and let it sit at overnight at the house. So far all 3 failures have been in my driveway/garage. I know for sure last failure was the day after rain, and then sitting over night. Dealer wants me to have the dead CMx towed in and not jumped when it happens again. Thanks for all your help everyone. Sure would be nice to have this fixed.
  4. I don't have MFT in my CMax. Believe I just got the 13-5-1. Thanks
  5. It rained the day before, and I did drive in the rain. It sat in the garage for 24 hours before I attempted to restart. The previous times were a few months ago, and i don't remember. But over this past weekend, it was very rainy..interesting. Thanks for the email.
  6. Had the TSB 13-5-1 installed by the local dealer about 3 weeks ago. CMax SE found dead over the weekend in the garage. Jumped it myself, and notified the local dealer and Ford Customer Service yesterday. This is my third DOA. Here are some interesting occurrences: Each of the dead batteries occurred at my home, battery failed after 12 hours of non-use After I jumped the battery, I moved the CMax out of the garage into the driveway, shut it down, then immediately re-started it without the jump-pack, no problem starting Since the TSB update and subsequent battery failure, "My View" doesn't remember my view, keeps switching to 'miles to go and mpg" when I tell it to do otherwise. Appointment is slated for Monday. Will advised what Ford/Dealer finds...
  7. Second time the battery was found dead in my SE, this time at 5100 miles. Dead after sitting over night. Traveled about 60 miles last night on the highway. Jumped it myself with my portable powerpack. Called Ford customer service and the rep said that they had a CMax meeting this morning, and there would be a fix for the battery charging and clock coming out in 2 weeks. The dealers are supposed to notify us when the fix is ready. . .
  8. 2peaches2oranges - When my SE died last month, the clock was stuck exactly like yours. It advanced 1 minute each time I started the car. I couldn't reset the time by pressing the 'clock' pushbutton on the console, but was finally able to reset the clock and date by accessing time/date thru the 'menu' push button on the front console. I don't have the MyFordTouch in my SE, but rather the push button version of radio. After going thru menu/clock, the clock has been running properly for about 2 weeks...(so far)
  9. I keep my interior displays at about 50% dimmed. I have had 1 battery failure with no resolution from Ford. Cmax returned after a week at the dealer 'awaiting instruction from Ford engineers"
  10. Thanks, I voted 'don't know yet' since the CMax was just returned after 1 week with no findings, but awaiting Ford's recommendations.
  11. Dead 12V - 2/22/13 @ 3500 miles. Dead in the morning after driving the previous night, left outside thru the night. SE basic, 200A . No electric hatchback. Standard radio, No NAV. Built 11/12
  12. Just got my CMax back from my Ford dealer after last week's dead battery, and there were no parts replaced and nothing repaired for now. I got a copy of the dialogue between the technician and the hotline assistance, and here are some of the highlights: Tech: Vehicle came in for 'no start' condition due to low 12V battery charge. FCDIM clock display is wrong and will not change time. Performed ECC test. No hard faults, tried resetting clock, disconnected battery. No change. Ford replied: "This concern can be caused by APIM issue. Clock info is received by GPSM, and transferred to the APIM, which sends info to the BCM, which applies the time offset, and then distributes the corrected time to all the modules which require it" "It is recommended to again perform a battery disconnect, touching battery cables together briefly while battery is disconnected, reevaluate the concern. If the concern is still present, then APIM is at fault, recommend replacing APIM" A few days later, the tech reported that fault was still present after following Ford's instructions above, and ordered APIM. While removing parts preparing for new APIM, clock was still reading incorrectly with APIM disconnected. Soon after this comment from the tech, Ford replied that "Engineering is currently aware of and investigating a clock inaccuracy issue on GEN1 and GEN2 Sync equipped vehicles. We understand that you were instructed to order and replace the APIM, but at this time we do not feel that replacing the APIM will address this issue. Engineering is currently not recommending any repair attempts for this type of clock inaccuracy at this time. . . . " BTW my car is an SE with no options - the basic 200A package, built in November 2012. I don't know if any of this has anything to do with everyone else's battery problems, but it's interesting. And my car is sterling grey. I talked with one of the techs at Ford today while I was waiting, and he said he had a CMax SEL battery fail because the owner left the key fab for the 'push-to-start" option in the car overnight, and the module that senses the key fab never went to sleep, since the fab was continuously transmitting.. My dealer says they will call me when Ford has a fix for the clock/battery issue. I bought a portable jump charger on the way home. Don't leave home without it.
  13. Interesting, my CMax is still at my Ford Dealer (in Maine) since last Friday and after my dead battery. After jumping, my clock was stuck at 1:09, never updated. They ordered a replacement "APIM" - some type of power module for the radio/clock etc, but then was told by Ford not to install it until further tests are done...(probably on mbedit's Cmax)...I called Ford's customer care last Friday, and they called me on Monday filling me in on the APIM delay. I have the SE with 3500 miles, purchased Dec 2012. I saw it today at the dealer, all sorts of covers are removed in the cabin, exposing tons of wires and connectors.
  14. My CMax is getting the replacement ECM for 'accessories' on Monday. I was told that it was for the radio/comms etc. I will clarify on Monday when I speak to Ford. The info was coming from the service advisor (scheduler), I'm not too sure of her technical ability.
  15. yark99 - Thanks for he info. I was reluctant to shut the engine off before handing it off to Ford. I talked with customer care, and they promised to escalate my battery issue on the regional level. Someone will call me back by Tues. Thanks to this forum, I had plenty of data to back up my phone call. They had specific questions about how the CMax behaved before and after the dead battery was jumped. They gave me a case number and promised to call the dealer to offer some additional resources. The Ford dealer called and said the CMax started right up for them - of course, but the clock was still stuck at 1:09. The are ordering an 'ECM for the accessories', and should be received on Monday. They feel that tis is the problem because of the odd behavior of the clock. No other faults were found. I don't know how much troubleshooting was conducted. Thank you all for your input. I will do my part and update this topic as I get info.
  16. Welcome to the club. Mine found dead yesterday. SE model, 3500 miles. Everything was off after the previous night's trip. Roadside Assistance jumped it, I drove right to the dealership. Noticed the clock was stuck at 1:09 and never updated during the trip to the dealership. Will call Ford Cust Service today.
  17. My turn yesterday. Found dead in the driveway yesterday morning. 3500 miles. SE model. Nothing left on from the night before. Called Ford Roadside, and they jumped it. It's at Ford now. They set me up quickly with a loaner. Interesting observation after jumping, as I was driving it to Ford, the clock remained at a specific time 1:09, and never changed. I told this to the service dept. Not sure what it means but the clock was powered and lit, but not updating. Will keep everyone advised when they call back.
  18. Tried to add some pix of the grill cover
  19. Hi donhak, I did the same exact cutout with my grill covers. Very easy to cut, and I am getting 3 - 4 more miles to the gallon here in Maine, and it certainly has been cold. Just be careful going thru a carwash with the covers, last time I went thru, the high pressure rinse removed the grill covers unexpectedly. I have had mine on for a month, and have had no problems. I too was reluctant to drill out the rivets in my front bracket.
  20. Excellent data! Will be interesting to see results after the grill cover installation! Thank you!
  21. I know Chinto is experiencing similar cold weather like New England, and my temps are rarely hold steady in the mid range, unless I am highway driving for 10 solid minutes as well. With my foamed grills, I have seen warmer and steadier temps. "My view" is set with power on the left and the engine temp on the right. I have a set of grillcovers coming soon, (looking forward to replacing the insulation on the pipes in the basement)...Nice to know the corresponding temps for our hashmarks, thank you ptjones for all your research and trials.
  22. Paul, I am very interested in a set of grill covers if you still have a set. I read all the threads here, and don't see any negative aspects to installing these covers, especially up here in New England for winter-tme use. With my temporary foam covers in place, I have consistently gained 4.4 mpg over the past week. That's a big improvement, and very pleasing to see 40+ mpg trips consistently - even with cold starts, short trips, heater on, and mixed highway/local routes. Since installation last week, we have not had above-freezing temps (probably the coldest week of the season so far), but I am showing my best mileage yet, due to grill covering. I have 1400 miles on my odometer. It may take a little while to pay off the grill covers, but it is a big step in the right direction, has been a fun and informative project, and continues to challenge me to increase my mileage by driving smarter and understanding how this thing works. Coming from an F150, this has been rewarding challenge, and sure convinces me that the CMax was the right choice each time I pass the gas station with no need to refuel. Seems like the F150 was using $100+ each fill up, and was killing us. I think it would be helpful if someone with a scangauge could post a few corresponding water temp readings to the markings on the water temp indicator on the CMax display, so we have an idea of what temps we are running at. ie low mark, 1/3 gauge. 1/2 gauge. I know it would not be 100% accurate, but a ballpark figure would be helpful. Also I have seen somewhere a suggestion about an engine block heater. Has anyone tried this? Again, any tool in the tool box. If this assists in getting up to temp quicker, it could be yet another improvement. Thanks for all your research and time invested into the project!
  23. Jason, Thanks for the response. Your methods make sense. I am seeing exactly the same thing,,as soon as the EV kicks on for the first time in this cold weather, the temp drops quickly back to the lower limit, turns blue and the ICE starts regardless of the battery charge. Easy acceleration after a light downhill will sometimes charge the battery once coasting a bit after coming up to speed. We have nothing but 10% Eth gas up here in Maine this time of year. The cold weather and gas mix is not helping my mileage. The foam covers have certainly improved the mileage though/ Looking forward to warmer weather!
  24. What is the consensus on starting from a stop? a) power up to glide speed on the ICE and conserve battery power for the glide, or b) save the mileage and slowly accelerate using the HVBattery...depleting its reserves? Not sure if there is one answer and if this depends on conditions, but I'm trying to learn better hybrid driving techniques. I am currently blocking my lower front grills and have seen a ~4 mpg increase. The coolant temp is warming quicker and staying there longer. I am using foam pipe insulation as a temporary testbed. Temps in Maine have been in the single digits this week, and I did 42.3 this morning on a coffee run with a un-garaged start. There is a good thread called "3 mpg gain with grill covers" that has discussed this in detail.
