I've updated this 1st post with more C-max and Fusion CVT failures -
Long-term C-max tests: 75% transmission failure
Automate replied to djc's topic in General Discussion
I have compiled a list of most of the eCVT failures that have been posted in the Fusion/Cmax Hybrid forums and there seems to be a pretty good mix of each. http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/10342-info-on-transmissions-ecvt-that-have-failed/ All the ones posted in the forums have occurred before 100k miles. It would be upsetting to get a failure between when the 100K Hybrid warranty runs out and 116K. -
Most people don't think of Formula 1 engines as being efficient or being in any ways similar to our hybrids but this is not true. Besides being a hybrid, F1 engines can use electricity to reduce turbo lag by helping the turbo get up to speed quicker but they can also use the turbo to generate electricity by extracting power from the exhaust when full power is not needed. A very good video explaining how it works here It's only a matter of time before this trickles now to production cars.

TPMS TirePressure sensor Activation when new Wheels
Automate replied to MaxHeadroom's topic in Wheels & Tires
A $13 adapter will be a Chinese clone. A real ELM327 chip alone is around $25, so the adapter will be even more. But some of the clones work fine. OBDLink MX are very good but not cheap. They include: Fast communications for very good refresh ratesBuilt in electronic HS-CAN to MS-CAN switchSecurity so you can leave the adapter plugged in and not worry about someone taking control of your car.http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com/topic/4763-forscan-and-dash-command/?p=38026 -
DRL for my Fusion Hybrid don't come on when the transmission is in Park. Only when you put it in Drive do they come on.

Cheap LED DRL installation
Automate replied to fotomoto's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
Anybody seen any studies comparing dedicated LED DRL versus main headlight DRL? Most aftermarket LED DRL are not very bright. Seems they are more for show rather than safety. -
With two EcoBoost engine options it does not look like the 2017 Escape will get a hybrid as some had wished. Still hoping they will make some improvements to the next C-max like adding the advanced safety options the Fusion Hybrid and now the 2017 Escape will have like lane assist and adaptive cruise control.

Mileage and Build date for eCVT that have failed
Automate replied to Automate's topic in eCVT / Transmission
I have updated the first post with some C-Max Energi that have failed. -
If you look at this topic http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/5288-build-date-for-ecvt-that-have-failed/ you will see I've found 3 Energi that have failed. I think the root problem is a manufacturing defect in the transmission. The aux pump and keeping the transmission cooler should help long term transmission life, but the defect is the main problem on the early failures.

Not good. They should have put it on a trickle charger when they found out it would take a while to get the part. Allowing a battery to run completely dead shortens the life of the battery. With all you have been through, I would ask for a new battery.- 63 replies

Mileage and Build date for eCVT that have failed

@Adrian_L If they would tell, that would be great but since they are not being recalled, I doubt they would. -
Ford has told owners that Cmaxs built between Aug 8, 2012 and Jun 17, 2014 and Fusions Hybrids built around that time with eCVT transmissions have failed due to a manufacturing problem that was fixed on later models. http://fordcmaxhybri...air/#entry60970 If you had a CMAX eCVT failure that required replacement, please post your car's build date.and mileage at failure Since the Fusion has the same transmission I have started the same topic here http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/10342-build-date-for-ecvt-that-have-failed/ Post there if you have a Fusion Model Year Build Date 1st Problem Replaced Notes Member Fusion Hybrid 2014 12K scn101 Fusion Hybrid 2014 14K Chris Campbell Fusion Hybrid 2013 55.7K ROB281 Fusion Hybrid 2013 60.5K mje715 Fusion Hybrid 2013 71K gadgetguy Fusion Hybrid 2013 34K gkinla Fusion Hybrid 2013 22K MTGilby Fusion Hybrid 2013 11/2012 40K cincidaddi Fusion Hybrid 2013 50K GrayStrider Fusion Hybrid 2013 ??K loud whine halfelite C-Max Hybrid 2013 9/2012 97K 98K 82% Hwy, noises ptjonesC-Max Hybrid 2013 10/8/2012 63.5K bearing noises, mostly highway HannahWCU C-Max Hybrid 2013 10/18/12 39.6K bearing noises, not replaced yet HotPotato C-Max Energi 2013 11/06/2012 54K found on CARFAX C-Max Energi 2013 11/07/2012 70.5K bearing noises, mostly highway mitrals C-Max Energi 2013 3/2013 44K mostly highway SparkyC-Max Hybrid 2013 43K 50K PalmettoMax C-Max Hybrid 2013 82K 85% interstate bigalpha C-Max Hybrid 2013 8/20/2012 32K grinding noises Bill-N C-Max Energi 2013 3/2013 95.1K slbenz C-Max Energi 2013 5/24/2013 27K GSMacLean C-Max Energi 2013 159K Middleofnowhere C-Max Energi 2013 23.2K ??K ITFlyer

FORScan Lite for Androids Released 6/29/2015
Automate replied to plus 3 golfer's topic in General Discussion
@djc Take a look at the anti-lock brake module (ABS). I don't have a CMax but rather a 2010 Fusion Hybrid and I monitor the PID BRKHYDRESS..when you press on the brakes and you are in regeneration the pressure will stay low (like 10 psi or less). If pressure goes higher you are using friction brakes. -
Ford to end C-max production at Michigan plant

Why Ford is sending small car production outside the US. http://www.foxbusiness.com/industries/2015/07/10/why-is-ford-sending-car-production-out-us/?intcmp=sbox28_trndfb "Domestic manufacturing largely consists of sport-utility vehicles and pickup truck, two segments that offer stronger profits. Ford’s Michigan factory used to build trucks and SUVs, in addition to the Focus. Now its 4,400 employees work solely on gasoline, hybrid and electric versions of the Focus and C-Max. The growing popularity of crossovers, along with a decline in car demand, is putting more pressure on automakers to keep production costs for compacts in check.“That’s definitely an element of the process,” said Karl Brauer, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book. “[Automakers] need the lowest cost structure possible. Small cars have a very small margin for profit.” U.S. sales of new passenger cars are down 1.7% year-to-date, according to research firm Autodata. Light trucks have grown 10.3%." -

FORScan has a lot more built-in PIDS than Torque Pro but you can't add any PIDs yourself http://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1314 Displaying PIDs from multiple modules at the same time will be added to all versions at some point. http://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=969 -
You can't always trust Wikipedia but the table here say C-max 0.29, Fusion 0.275 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_drag_coefficient

I agree that electricity is a lot easier to distribute than gasoline but the above statement is a little bit misleading comparing petrol stations to charging stations. A charging station can only handle one car at a time and needs to be connected generally for hours at a time. A single petrol station will have many petrol pumps (maybe 8 to 12 per station) and it takes less than 5 minutes to service a car.

What about the elevation of your start and end locations?
-
Correct, The C-Max is almost 6 inches taller than the Fusion Hybrid, this adds to the cross sectional area. There is a price to be paid for the higher seat position that some people like about the C-Max
-
Interesting, a $50 part. http://www.tascaparts.com/ford/c-max/fv6z10c679b/2013-year/hybrid-se-trim/2-0l-l4-electric-gas-engine/hybrid-components-cat/battery-scat/?part_name=cable Also, even though the power-trains are the same between the Fusion Hybrid and the CMax Hybrid, this part seems to only fit the CMax. Maybe due to cable lengths being different between the cars.
-
This makes sense. With similar drive trains you would think the wiring diagrams would also be similar Being different shaped cars the actual connectors and wiring lengths might be slightly different. But one thing that is definitively different is the C-Max is made at a different assembly plant than the Fusions..
