  1. Or you could just spend the $70 bucks, have great looking floor matts and be done with all of the worry and hassle.
  2. "Or you could buy a Grill Cover set and gain 3-4mpg and be getting 47mpg alot of the time. :)" I didn't like taking the mask (bra) off of my roadster all of the time either, so I can just see myself forgetting to do it with my C Max grill cover on a hot August day! Some things are worth the effort and some are not. I guess I am a little bit lazy. ;) The Ford engineers are pretty smart folks and have put a lot of technology into this car. Consider the variable louvers in front of the radiator to manage air flow dynamics and cold starts, which many on this forum probably don't even know exist! My point is that most of us got way more technology than we ever expected at this price point, so if Ford would have thought that a $2.00 piece of vinyl on the grill would safely and efficiently increase overall MPG by 3-4 MPG, I think they would have done it. 3. I find all of these Hyper-mileage discussions interesting. The fact that we are on this forum to begin with, shows that we are a little more technically inclined than most drivers. But, I am finding it hard to believe that the "average C Max driver" would go through all of the convoluted contortions posted above on a regular basis just to milk the last possible MPG out of their car! It is not only tedious, frustrating and distracting, but dangerous as well. The kind of attention needed to constantly monitor the dash gages would make "anti cell phone and driving" advocates salivate! You can't be safely watching your mileage gauge and the road at the same time; I've tired and almost rear ended several cars in the process. So, as fun as it might be to theoretically discuss the car's full MPG potential, it not realistic or safe to try to achieve it in any kind of a real world driving scenario, unless you live on a dry lake bed with no wind and the temp never goes above 70. Unfortunately, most of us live in the real world with ups and downs, winters and summers, and that angry a--hole :rant2: behind us that won't get off of his horn if we don't leap into action. I plan to just relax and enjoy the ride. :)
  4. This happened to me last week. I turned it off and on again three times and then it finally started to back up in EV mode. As I thought about it, I realized that I might not have had my foot firmly enough on the brake when I pressed the start button. On my third attempt I pressed the brake firmly and pushed the start button and it started moving in reverse EV mode as soon as I released the brake. I/14/13 update: very cold last night. Went to put car in reverse and it paused. I waited about two seconds and it started to move in reverse with no problems! I think I have found the answer. As others have suggested, in cold weather and/or when the batteries have a low charge, the car's computer needs a second or two to connect to the transmission and make the car move in reverse. I believe that the secret is to pause about two seconds after you put the car into reverse and you should not have any further issues.
  5. Here's one for you. I have had the clock issue three times in the past 6 weeks as well but, it now seems OK. Now the calendar displays the wrong day and date. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to set the correct date on this beast. I have the standard package with the Sync Ford system and no nav. Help please!
  6. Let it go until your car tells you to change it. Don't put synthetic oil (Mobile 1) into it until 10,000 miles so the engine has plenty of time to break in. If you do ti too early, it will never break in properly and may develop high oil usage problems in the future. I plan on changing it to Mobile 1 at my first oil change somewhere around 10K miles.
  7. I've got about 1,800 miles on my car, into my fourth of gas, with the tire pressure set at 38 psi, I was getting about 39.7 in combined city and FWY driving. I reset the life time reading yesterday and drove about 80 miles mostly FWY driving, I averaged about 41 MPG. Here in California, the temps have been in the 50's and 60's. I have EV+ on and drive with a very light foot. What I have found is that if you try to maximize your mileage on a California FWY, you will be a danger to yourself and others. Everyone here drives at 70 or higher. The sweet spot on the C Max is about 62 or 63 mph, so you will get the "middle finger" a lot if you try to drive at the most efficient speed! I think it is possible to get the 47 MPG but, not if you share the road with other cars or have to climb a hill or if the weather is below 70 degrees or if there is a passenger in the car, or, or, etc. There are just too many variables in the real world driving experience for the C Max to achieve it's 47 MPG EPA ratings with any regularity. Sure, we all can find those rare occasions when we have a tail wind on a down hill road on a 70 degree spring day, with no one else in the car, and no other cars on the road and all of the signals are green but, come on people, this is not real world driving or mileage! I would love to see my car consistently get the rated 47 MPG, but it's just not in the cards! Having said that, the Prius V is not achieving it's EPA mileage ratings either, so we are in no worse position for having purchased the C Max over the Prius V! In fact, considering all of the superior technology, excellent fit and finish, ride, suspension, and good looks, I would have opted for the C Max regardless, and I think most of us on this forum would have as well. So let's quit complaining about it  and enjoy our new rides. :happy feet:
  8. Just down load the Sync App for your smart phone (iPhone or Android) and you can get free real time traffic reports, turn by turn directions spoken and displayed on your Sync dash screen and much more with Sync Services and it's free! Check it out. I have been using it and it is way cool!
  9. The owners manual specifically address this issue: For consistent results when filling the fuel tank: • Turn the ignition off before fueling; an inaccurate reading results if the engine is left running. • Use the same fill rate (low–medium–high) each time the tank is filled. • Allow no more than two automatic click–offs when filling. Results are most accurate when the filling method is consistent.

    John's 2013 C MAX SEL

Current pic of my new C MAX SEL.
  11. My C Max came with the front/rear carpet and rubber matts as well as the rear cargo mat (I guess Galpin Ford was more generous that I had thought considering the other posts on this subject). I ended up replacing the front rubber matts because the driver's side did not have any protection for the black carpet on the foot rest. Weather Tech has a great black rubber front replacements for about $70.00. They fit great and cover the foot rest, so I don't have to worry about my foot getting the carpet dirty.
  12. I have only one comment, "Ford said we'd get 47MPG" with the C Max and that has turned out to be mostly bull s--t as well! Besides who would be dumb enough to pay $800 (guessing here) for new wheels to gain a measly 1.1 MPG? The pay back would be a thousand years! :)
  13. I had my windows tinted by a professional and I asked him for a recommendation on a clear bra for the hood. He recommended a guy that does this for a living and works on exotic cars for millionaires here in Southern California. I thought great, if it's good enough for a Ferrari, it's good enough for my C Max! The guy came to my home and custom cut the plastic to cover the entire hood so there is no seam in the middle as there is with all pre-cut kits which only cover the front one third of the hood. He charged me $240 for the whole job and I tipped him $20 for the extra care he took to do it right. He was here about 2 1/2 hours and had to make numerous cuts and solution injections to make it fit right to the rather complex contour at the side of the hood. I would not attempt to do this installation on my own having seen what this professional went through! Trust me, pay the money and have a professional do it right the first time. You'll be money ahead in the long run and be happy with the outcome!
  14. HI! I bought my Ford C Max SEL about 6 weeks ago. So far I am averaging 39.7 MPG. I am not impressed! I consider myself a very easy light footed driver who has been driving high mileage cars for most of my life so I know how to baby the gas peddle. I am hoping that it will increase as the break-in period continues for the next 1500 miles. I love the high quality fit and finish of the interior/exterior materials. It is also very powerful for a four cylinder car, not to mention a hybrid! I traded in a Honda Fit which routinely got 34 MPG and cost $17,500, or about $12,000 less then the C Max SEL but, the fit and finish was crap and it couldn't get out of it's own way! The Honda was, however, bullet prof and very reliable. I hope that Ford has finally got it right with the C Max in the reliability department! I am willing to give them a try as this is the first Ford product that I have bought since 1972. Oh well, only time will tell but, so far Ford has not impressed me with their mileage claims versus real life results! I will admit, that so far I do love the car; it drives like a much bigger car and handles well. Now if the mileage goes up a little, I'll be a happy camper!
  15. I bought my C Max SEL six weeks ago, have about 1400 miles on it and averaging 39.6 mpg, combined. I kept saying no to the warranty sales pitch until they got down to $950 for the 7 year premium, 75 K miles with 100 deductible! Keep saying no until they get under a grand!
