  1. Someone else's problem now. Dealer stepped up on the trade value and I have a new Flex instead. Its a long story, but in the end, it was more of a want vs need issue. I wanted the new Fusion, but really needed the Flex. I made a huge costly mistake when I traded in the original Flex for an F150, I didn't need a pickup, just the Flex. Once I had neither, it quickly became apparent, OOPS, uh, we now need to take BOTH cars to get almost what I would put in the Flex. Very happy with the Flex. Relieved to no longer have that problem child too.
  2. I took ptjones advice and made a set of covers for the Fusion I had. They did nothing to improve the fuel economy on the car, that thing was in serious need of help, but I can say, boy were my feet warm! I had a scan gauge hooked up and before the covers, the water temps were 140-170, after the covers rock solid at 182*. There were a couple times where it got over 200*, but it was on warmer days only. I did the same using clear sheet plastic, but used the lesser priced Lexan since it was only an experiment. When I got rid of the Fusion, I sent the covers to another Fusion owner, hybridbear, and he has them on his, and did notice an improvement. Here are a few pics of them, I used cable ties to secure them.
  3. Now you need some on the Fusion Hybrid Forum. There are a few posts that would make some great stickies.
  4. Found it and signed up. Thanks!
  5. Where is the Energi forum? My wife is interested in the Cmax Energi now that I told her she could drive to town and back and not use gas. She likes he Cmax better than the Fusion.
  6. YES! Even though I have been driving hybrids since 2007, when I got the new Fusion Hybrid, it had a problem where it just got terrible gas mileage, no matter how I drove it. Fast, Slow, moderate, no consistency at all with it. Ford said nothing wrong, yet, there was something not quite right with it. Anyhow, having that car for the few months I owned it has made me a much better driver as I am now getting consistently over 40 MPG in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid, and the Flex that replaced the Fusion I am seeing above 20 MPG in that one now thanks to the techniques I picked up driving the 13 Fusion( I know, seems weird to go from 35 MPG and being pissed, to 20 MPG and being happy),. I learned so many new tricks in my experiments that I apply them to both cars, and it has helped quite a bit. Drive Smarter, Not Faster has become my new motto. I love it when bubba tailgates me, passes me when they can, then I catch up to them at the next light and breeze past. It takes a Special Kind of Stupid to race to a red light is my other saying now.
  7. I have found this exact same thing in the FFH. With a full battery speeds above 60 return better MPG when fully on ICE. The one I had was broken, and Ford wouldnt fix it, so in my experimenting to try to get anything above 40 I ran across this same exact thing, only not by using the cruise control, but with my foot and watching the instant meter and SOC. As long as I kept it above 60 MPH, I was able to get the instant to stay at or above 40, but as soon ass I had to drop below 60 and it started to cycle EV, the MPG would sink like a boulder. As long as I kept the battery charged and stayed out of EV at high speeds, it did much better. There was at least a 7 MPG difference between EV/ICE and pure ICE.
  8. Then again, there are some of us with Fusion or Cmax that cant get anywhere near those numbers no matter waht we try. The ratings they post I wish I could get. My 2010 FFH gets better MPG than my new one. When I drove in 70+ temps I didnt see 40.
  9. C-Max & Fusion share the same system, so what affects one affects the other. There are a few of us who do have problems though, but Ford is not stepping up to find out the problems. There are a lot of variables that affect MPG, but if an owner who has driven Hybrids since 2007 and has alway acheived at minimum top EPA in them, and cant do it in the new Fusion, the response is not to blow off the owner telling them its how they drive it, but to look into the car, especially when it throws misfire codes with fouled plugs after only 4500 miles. Something like this can impact Ford, so why are they ignoring it?
  10. Since the Cmax and fusion share the same tech, thought I would post here too. I just got my car back, with no repair done other than replace the plugs. At 4500 miles while taking the family out to dinner and pulling onto a rural highway(55MPH) the car stumbled at 45 MPH CEL started flashing and car shuddered a bit then smoothed out, a few miles down, made a turn and accelerated again and CEL blinked again. Got to dinner, ate, and trip hime, uneventful. Next day, 12-31 drove to work, no CEL, time to go hime, pull out onto city street 35 MPH, then a somewhat steep incline, get to top to 45 MPH, hit the gas and solid CEL. Stayed on all the way home. Wednesday got in the carr CEL still on, drive to dealer adn pull out onto the same road as before, and even with the CEL on it started blinking, and stumbled again at 45. Car was in the shop all day, untouched since it was unscheduled, then next day they pulled it in and found all 4 plugs were fouled, but no other codes beyond the misfire. They test drove it over night on a 100 mile trip and came back, no codes, and the computer reported good MPG. Car was returned to me to drive and see if the plugs foul again, and it is still getting poor MPG, only getting about 36 when it should be at least 40. You would think that on the second report of this car that it still doesnt get good MPG after 4500 miles, with documented proof of actual fills vs miles driven, and 4 carbon fouled plugs, Ford would pay some interest in it as hmm, poor FE and fouling, maybe a sensor is bad.
  11. Question on your cars. When you let off the gas with less than 3/4 charge, how quickly does the car slow? If I compare my 2010 Fusion hybrid to my 2013, I can coast long time in the 10, but if my wife is behind me in the 10 while I am in the 13 and I lift my foot, she has to ride the brakes to keep from hitting me. Also in the 10, when doing 55 and up, I can get the instant to bounce between 38 and 44, and get pretty good MPG in it, but this new car, Unless the pack is charged it barely gets to 38. I have never seen it go above 40 on ICE except when I lift my foot, and then the car slows down.

    C-Max Problems

I am in the same boat but with the Fusion Hybrid. Be patient on the NFT, there is a fix, 3.5.1, just not fully available yet, seems only the left coast has it. However, my FFH has been in twice now for poor MPG, MFT problems, buzzing overhead console, fuel tank hard to fill, and finally this second time a hard check engine light. Fouled spark plugs, all of them with 4500 miles in it. Already had a case opened with Ford Customer Rep, and was blown off, now going back and requesting again that they do something before it gets nasty. poor MPG and fouled plugs, hmm seems like a problem to me, how bout you?
  13. I can vouch for the not so good MPG in some cars. I have the '13 Fusion hybrid and get pretty much the same MPG as the OP. However I drove all the way to Florida, with ecocruise set anywhere from 55 to 70 and all I saw was 38. In 78* weather I saw no difference than what I see up here in 30* weather. My daily drive is about the same mostly highway, but rural highway of 55 MPH, some hilly, some flat. I also have a 2010 Fusion Hybrid and drive the same route in that one for the past year, got it in Sept 11, and put 34K miles on it, had 1100 when I got it. I have had it up to 43 MPG average during the summer, and it gets down to about 34 in the really cold weather like we have now. Been that way since day 1. It is rated 36 highway, 41 city, 39 combined. I am quite pleased with what it gets, so taking that into consideration on cold losses, theoretically the new one should be at least 42 MPG, but instead is about 34 MPG. It has been in twice for poor MPG complaints, and both times Ford said nothing wrong, however, this last time also involved a check engine light that was from misfires. All 4 plugs were carbon fouled. 4500 miles and the plugs are carbon fouled? Poor gas mileage adn fouled plugs usually means, OVER RICH conditions, but Ford said, no problem found. The way I got the CEL to come on, accelerated hard from a dead stop onto a highway, at about 45 MPH the car bucked, the CEL started blinking, car ran rough, then cleared, then I turned on another road and gave it gas and it came on again. Next day drove it to work, and no CEL, then on the way home, pulled out into traffic and gave it gas going up hill, then solid CEL. So if you are getting bad MPG, try accelerating hard a few times and see if you can through a CEL, especially if you have about 4500 miles on it. Im wondering if those of use getting not so good MPG are having the same issue. My theory on this is a batch of bad sensors reporting false readings so more fuel is actually used than what the computer thinks is being used so everything appears to be normal, yet when you fill the tank and check it, its off. I dont know what the tech was looking at when he test drove it though because all I saw was 36 on my trip home using Ecocruise and keeping the coach bars as blue as possible driving no faster than 55. Then again, maybe you dont drive this car like a hybrid, the service manager said he drove it like he drives his own car and got it to 40. He doesnt believe these cars can ever acheive 47 MPG on the highway.
  14. Hi guys, was directed here from another forum because of a problem I have with my 2013 Fusion Hybrid. From day one i have had lousy MPG in it, and considering I have driven Hybrids since 2007 starting with a Prius, I have always been able to meet or exceed EPA in them, but not this bugger. The reason I was sent here is because I have had the car in twice now for a total of 5 days out of service, both times due to poor fuel efficiency, and this last time because of a hard CEL. When they hooked it up it was throwing misfire codes, and when they pulled the plugs they were all carbon fouled. I had 4500 miles on it when I brought it in the second time, and now it has 4750 miles on it, and new plugs, but no real fix for either the carbon fouling or the poor FE. I also have a 2010 Fusion Hybrid and I can get EPA in that one when I try and actually have the tires at the right air pressure( really need to put some air in them this weekend). So far all Ford has been saying is the car is reporting the correct MPG in test drives, and drive it some more and see if the plugs foul again. No attempt to find out why the plugs fouled, and really no concern that my actual MPG is so far off from rated or what the comupter is saying. Currently its getting 35 MPG. I drove it all the way to Florida, and never was it able to get more than 38 MPG on the highway, regardless if I was doing 55 or 65, 70 and up, 33 or less. Even in warm 78 degree weather I didnt see expected MPG. From past cars, in this weather, and the weather I have driven in, 43 MPG is what I expected to see, and have not. Also my tank fills are all over the place, I topped the tank off tonight after picking it up, stuck as much as I could and the gauge read 1/8th from full. They said the tank appears to be OK, but I have to fill it slowly or it clicks off, the fewer gallons in the tank at time of fill the worse it gets. No matter what I try I just cant seem to get this car up to 40 let alone beyond it, but no problem getting the 2010 to 40, even with 200 pounds of horse food in the trunk and going up hill part of the trip. I dont know about you guys, but a complaint about poor gas mileage and a case of all 4 plugs being carbon fouled should have triggered a red flag that something is not right.
