  1. I've been averaging 53.3-56.1 on my daily trips to the office and back.  No A/C lately which have helped.  Haven't had any covers on until the other week i put the lower one back on.  Need to figured out what i'm doing with the middle one due to the license plate issue.

When I've been filling up my range estimate is 713 Miles usually.

I also took a trip up to PA, I only averaged 41.5 up there, and 45.6 on the way back.  Lots of mountains.

  2. On the C-Max of course there is nothing to "engage", just a matter of a direction on the torque. I'm not an expert at motors so I try to assume anything out of the ordinary carries a risk of unknown consequences. At the very least, it would be confusing for a second :)

I do wish there was  a button to turn on the rear camera while driving.  Old friend of mine had the reverse switch go back on his old blazer and didn't want to pay the $80 for it to replace, so i got a manual switch hooked up.  He would turn it on when people would tailgate him, some people would freak out, others wouldn't notice/care.

  3. I played with that a bit until that one morning when I was left wondering for a second "Why did my rear-view camera come on?"   And after that I decided it wasn't worth it. I wonder how the motor would have reacted if I had stepped on the accelerator before realizing my mistake.

Either nothing would happen or it would slow you down.  Probably nothing.  Typically newer cars have to be going below a certain speed to 'engage' reverse.

I'm not convinced shifting to Neutral increase FE, but I've found the throttle position that is basically Neutral, and its useful to allow speed to increase down hill.

  4. Thanks for the great write up with pics - not a problem I have had (that I ever noticed) on out '13 SEL or our '15 SEL, but your documentation is great and appreciated

One of the annoying things i noticed is when i was on the highway with all 4 windows down, radio off, traveling at about 60MPH.  When the ice was off in EV mode, and give it enough throttle quickly to turn on ICE, i would hear this fairly loud base rumble come out of the speakers for about 1 second.

  5. That night being on will have a code in the computer to identify the problem.

I bet they didn't even look at the car and tried to sell brakes because a service writer is trying to be a mechanic. That's just my guess.

I would take it back and work with someone different and have them pull codes.

It could be a faulty sensor causing different behavior

  6. If you change the display to show the KW usage (where it shows "Climate" and "Other"), the AC will draw about 2 KW on a hot summer day when the car is first turned on. It eventually goes down to about 0.25 KW. So yeah you get quite a hit when its first turned on, but if you use recirculate it eventually settles down and hardly draws any power at all.

I've seen 4kw the other day when it was 101 (just over 3 bar) but usually it's right under 3 bar for a few and goes to 2 bar for a while and steady at 1 or less.

The other morning when it was 75 but 100% humidity I ran it and jumped between no bar and .25 bar most of the trip and got my typical MPG of 56 for my morning drive.

  7. FYI - My mileage in the 2016 for the year is 44.9 MPG and for this last week is 47.5 MPG. I do not hypermile, so these numbers represent driving normal if not aggressively.

I'm currently at 45.6 on my 2016. I never use ECO select as I can't stand the Prius Button.

I've had two large trips on the interstate with it (1,700 miles total) where we averaged about 38 on.

My daily driving my trips range 47-56MPG

  8. One should not have to reprogram the TCM with a different strategy since the TCM is not part of the transmission and would not be replaced. The used or new transmission would have to have the same gear ratio as the failed transmission: 2.57 for the Hybrid or 2.91 for the Energi. AFAIK, Ford did not change the final drive ratio from MY2013 to present. Please provide the source as to the different gear ratios in various model years.

Most transmission shops should have the Ford IDS and if not, it would likely be $100 or so for a Ford dealer to check that the TCM strategy is correct for the transmission and install the appropriate strategy. NOTICE: If the transmission strategy information is not correct, transmission driveability concerns can occur.- Ford Manual But I believe the only material difference in strategy would relate to the final drive ratio. Ford may have enhanced the strategy is later MYs perhaps to improve efficiency over previous strategies. So, it would likely be beneficial to update the strategy based on the transmission ID and strategy ID numbers on the newer MY transmissions.

I'm only remembering when ford changed the design in 2014 they said it was a more efficient gear ratio. Don't know if that was accurate or if it was the cover story for the failure part.

As far as reprogramming, all I have is a private message with Ford Tech that's says any time you replace a ford hybrid transmission you have to program it in the computer otherwise it won't work
