From the album: Donhak Ice Storm SEL
Installed grill covers. Because of the way the front license bracket fits into the grill, I elected to mod the top cover to fit around it rather than remove it and place the plate on the cover. -
Glacier Queen for my Alaska Ice Storm.

It they were easier to get at, it would be interesting to see if just adding some door insulating tape along the edges would help the shutters to seal tighter. I think your Grill Covers would be great for Alaska. When the engine is running to both charge the battery and warm the engine, instantaneous mileage can be under 20 mpg. We are due to get below zero this weekend and could definitely use them then.

Per request I added a shot of my C-Max and me to my gallery. From my Air Force days I would call it my hero shot. I flew in the back seat of F-4E Phantoms as a Weapon System Officer. The C-Max isn't as fast, but I am loving it.

Per request I loaded a shot of me and my C-Max. The C-Max is the prettier half. I am loving it. -
I do not know if it is an area specific option, but my C-Max SEL came with the engine block heater installed no charge. On the initial vehicle order confirmation it was listed as option 41H and it was also listed on the factory window sticker as no charge, not as a dealer installed option as things like remote start get listed. The salesperson made a point of checking where the cord was stowed. My car is always parked in a heated garage at night, and I have not had time to experiment with how much it raises initial coolant temp if used. The engine warms up quickly, but I take a mileage hit on short trips with winter weather.

My snow tires tend to be on from early October to mid April although snow in September is not unheard of or a late April or early May surprise. I drove studded tires for a long time, but after driving studless Blizzak's, I will not go back. Michelin Ice X's are also a good choice. I went with the Blizzaks because Costco had them in stock and on sale here, so no shipping. You just do not to run them when it is too warm or they will wear fast. The Focus options for 16 inch wheels work great and there were zero problems installing. I will get myself in a photo at some point and a review as I get more experience with the car.

The seats and part of the interior are more of a light brown. I am glad that I picked it. I originally saw it in a Ruby Red SEL.

I have been on the forum for a while but just picked up my C-Max Hybrid SEL with 302a accessory package last night. It is Ice Storm Metallic with Medium Light Stone leather. I like the combination. Ice Storm definitely changes character depending on lighting but have not had it long enough to see it in bright sunny weather, which should bring out more of the blue over the gray and light green. Lots of gadgets to learn and program but got Homelink setup for my garage door opener this morning and starting to work on Sync settings and left screen information settings. The sales person helped setup my phone in a couple minutes and already had my home programmed into the GPS but admitted that from my research that I probably knew more about the car than he did. I was the first to order one in Alaska with a long wait, but it was worth it. Dealers are still on a tight allocation here. This was the second one sold by my dealer, just getting one more in my shipment and three on order. I just started a gallery album.

Here is my Ice Storm SEL with Medium Light Stone Leather the day after getting home and outfitted with with Costco Velox Wheels and Bridgestone Blizzak WS70's for the snow.

For those looking for wheel and tire options, I bought some Costco Velox Spyder wheels 16x7, with Bridgestone Blizzak WS70, 215/60/16 when the wheels were on sale $125 off for four, and the tires were in stock and $100 off for four with mounting.. They went on with no problems and are only 1.15% larger than the stock 17's.

The Glacier Queen has arrived at its new home. -
Model: C-Max Hybrid SEL - Ice Storm, Light Stone Leather, 302a Date Ordered: 10/03/2012 Promised Delivery time: 60 - 90 days VIN Available: 11/15/12 Window Sticker Available: 12/05/12 Scheduled Build Date: 12/11/12 Estimated Delivery Date: 01/12/13 Actual Delivery Date: 01/18/13 State: AK The Glacier Queen has a new home. Not the most original name, but appropriate for the first Ice Storm SEL with Medium Light Storm leather in Alaska. The sales person finally acknowledged that he laid hands on it Thursday night, and I picked up the next night. It got held in Washington for a shipment of 52 vehicles to the dealer. Ironically, the original SE that I had configured and the dealer picked up was built two weeks earlier but arrived in the same shipment. After getting it home I immediately had it outfitted with some Costco Velux wheels and Bridgestone Blizzak WS70's although the stock tires handled amazingly well with the eight inches of new snow that we got Wednesday and Thursday after a winter meltdown the weekend before with an inch of rain laying down ice underneath. The salesperson paired my phone and programmed my home into the GPS but admitted that I probably knew more about the car than he did at this point. They initially were only allocated one C-Max, and I was the first person to order one. They now have one SE in stock and an SEL and two more SE's with scheduled build dates. I paid a fair amount under retail, but with the tight Alaska Allocation they have the SE marked $3,200 over retail with additional dealer markup and $3,000 more than I paid for the SEL with the 302a package! The only minor irritation on the way home was that Sync decided that it needed to build the voice library for the GPS, going through all the phrases and was sluggish as it did it's initial maintenance. 3.5 for the C-Max is not available yet but they updated an Escape that came in the same shipment. Pictures uploaded in the Gallery in album donhak.

The car arrived in port this morning and the container unloaded in the yard. Now it just has the short trip to the dealer and dealer prep. The salesperson will call me as soon as he sees the car. My schedule probably will not let me pick it up until later in the week. After this long it is still hard to wait. It is almost ten years since my last new car purchase, and hopefully with the C-Max it can be the same. With our large container ships the cars get placed in totally enclosed cartainers, which keep them protected from the elements and saltwater. I think they are similar to the railroad cartainers, with cars double decked in them. The trip up the inside passage is pretty well protected but the Gulf of Alaska is notorious for winter storms with hurricane force winds and 50 foot waves, as witnessed by the recent Kulluk drilling rig grounding in Kodiak. Every once and a while they still report containers that break loose and wash overboard although it is rare with the bigger ships.

Model: C-Max Hybrid SEL Date Ordered: 10/03/2012 Promised Delivery time: 60 - 90 days VIN Available: 11/15/12 Window Sticker Available: 12/04/12 Scheduled Build Date: 12/11/12 Actual Delivery Date: Est 1/12/13 State: AK After a three month wait my car is almost here. It sat in Washington ten days over New Years before finally getting loaded in a container for the sail north. The ship is scheduled to dock tomorrow, and I should take delivery later in the week. There was a one month delay when the dealer did not initially put in for the verification program, a two week change in build dates when I upgraded to the SEL from the SE, and minor delays shipping by rail during Christmas and New Years. They all add up. Ford at least sent me a brochure with a $750 private cash rebate to combine with the $1,000 rebate that the dealer locked in. I don't expect stellar gas mileage initially with winter weather, but it will beat the 22 mpg winter average I have been getting.

Once loaded on a railcar the visibility report will show the rail line and railcar number. It will also start showing multiple reports per day as it progresses in transit. My car was placed on Canadian National Railways and passed to Burlington Northern, but I was able to track it through the CSX 800 number trace system once the dealer sent me the report showing the railcar number and not rely just on my dealer's weekly updates. My dealer has been good about sending weekly updates from the day I ordered it. My car has reached Kent, Washington but has one final leg by container ship to get to Alaska. I agree. The Private cash offer has a very explicit list of vehicles that are not covered, and the C-Max and C-Max Energi are nowhere in the list. It also lists what offers it is not compatible with. The current $1,000 rebate is a public offer available to everybody and may be combined with the private cash, all the dealer has to do is follow the directions for you to claim it with the offer number and your customer Id on the coupon. The dealer will be fully reimbursed by Ford and it costs them nothing. The dealer at least should have put it into the system to see if it was accepted. Hopefully Ford Customer Service can help you.

I have a C-MAX SEL that was slated to be built today, 12/11. It has a tentative delivery date of 1/7/2013, which is probably reasonable. It has rail transport to Kent, Washington, and then ship transport to Anchorage, AK. For a little more assurance I asked my salesperson about the rebate due to expire 1/3/2013 and got this back. You are price protected for the cost of the vehicle, and the Consumer Incentives that were in play at the time you placed your vehicle order. You and I agreed upon a specific price, and we intend to stand behind that number. If the Consumer Incentives increase by the time your C-Max arrives, it's more money for you. The initial quote had the standard disclaimers that rebates are not guaranteed and are subject to the incentives in effect at the time of delivery. It is nice to have some written assurance that they intend to honor the rebate at the time of order unless a new rebate offers more.

For anybody considering a C-MAX or has one on order. A while back I signed up on the Ford site for email updates and information on the Ford C-MAX. I have started to receive emails and one recently had an additional $750 rebate offer on most Ford vehicles that excluded hybrids. :banghead: However, a few days later I received a C-MAX brochure in the mail that includes and a $750 rebate on top on any other incentives in affect that includes the C-Max if purchased before 1/26/2013. :) The coupon is placed in the brochure to include the printed delivery name and address on the back. My C-MAX SEL is on order with a scheduled build date of today, 12/11. It has a tentative delivery date to Alaska is 1/7/2013. My dealer assured me that they will honor the $1000 rebate that was in effect at the time of order. I plan on taking in the brochure rebate when I take delivery for the additional discount. With my original offer this should take the price down roughly to printed dealer invoice. The dealer will still get their hold back and the rebate money back from Ford. Every once and a while it pays off to sign up for additional information.
