  1. ptjones: How many miles were on the car when you changed the plugs? I understand your comment on the plugs' reluctance to be removed, as I've experienced this before, and the feeling the cylinder head is getting stripped. I'm thinking of replacing plugs earlier than recommended, as I have a fear of the plugs seizing in the cylinder head when following the recommended mileage interval.
  2. jmcgliss: How many miles did you get out of your various sets of Conti Extremes?
  3. jmcgliss: So, how many miles are you/did you get out of your "...several sets of ContiExtreme..." tires?
  4. Thanks. Bought the car used (Ford CPO), had them swap tires(which were new!)/wheels from another used CMax, which is why I ended up with the Contis. They would not have been my first choice. After researching at TireRack, which agrees for the most part with your observations, I've also learned that these Contis don't go much beyond 35-40k miles, so I guess I'm doing okay. I really didn't know they're considered "performance" all season...sigh...(they're also quite noisy...)
  5. 2013 CMax. 73k on the odo, 33k miles on the tires (OEM size 225/50ZR17), tread is down to 4/32 and 5/32. Wear is very even, always run at 38-40psi, never any loss of air, no balance issues. Rotated every 5k miles. Almost entirely highway miles, 65-75mph. Basically, the car is driven very gently (38-40mpg) At the dealer for oil change and brake fluid change, and they red-flagged the tires as approaching the time to replace. Treads look great, still showing strong sipes, but shallow, at 4/32 and 5/32. Does this sound like acceptable wear? I'm wondering if I'm into the "meat" of the tread, and therefore the longest wearing portion of the tread? Thanks.
  6. Regarding the advice to carry a plug kit/pliers and skip the sealer: not everyone has the ability to do the work on the side of the road. I've just recently used the sealant on a 24k mile used tire (Nissan Leaf) and it worked exactly as advertised. Yes, follow-up was inconvenient, to take the car to a tire shop, remove the tire from the rim, flush out the water-base sealant, plug/patch from the inside, remount, balance tire. The TPMS wasn't affected by the sealant. 1500 miles later, tire hasn't lost a breath of air. The convenience factor, for anyone not mechanically inclined, is important. (I would prefer a full-sized spare, as the sealant is worthless, of course, if there's a blow-out!)
  7. Post #72. I think QC is very inconsistent with batteries in the US...
  8. joe: One year old failure? Yikes. Was it a "Ford" replacement, from a dealer? I've come to the conclusion that battery QC is hit or miss. I've been a member over at TDIClub and Vortex since 2009, and it seems battery longevity varies greatly.
  9. Purchased our 2013CMax SEL use, 41k miles, in August, 2016. I have for many years installed a battery hookup to use a BatteryTender Plus for occasional use (during long periods when car is stored/garaged). I installed the BTP lugs directly to the bolts on the battery cable lugs. After purchase, noticed that the BatteryTender could NOT fully charge the OEM battery, after several days on trickle charge. Dealer replaced the battery, no cost...UNKNOWN whether or not they performed a reset, but I'll assume they didn't. Fast-forward to last week (17 months on replacement battery): Entertainment and Nav went dark. Reset both by pulling fuse #79. Heard a loud "pop" when I removed the fuse, no sound when I replaced it. Both Entertainment and Nav came back to life, and continue to function. Several questions: 1) I connected the BatteryTenderPlus cables directly to the bolts on the battery clamps. Should I put them somewhere else? 2) Does the Entertainment and Nav going dark indicate a weak battery? As soon as the car returns home (it's away at son's college), I'll plug the battery tender in, see how long it takes to charge. Also, will perform the timed "ignition off/radio on" function. Thanks in advance. Still learning about hybrid/elec drivetrains, owning a 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid and a 2015 Nissan Leaf. BTW, the reason I've used BatteryTenders for many years is years of boating/camping...deep cycles batteries. Also, VW CRTDI ownership, which are power hogs. I never want the inconvenience of battery failure. Ed in Ft. Worth, TX
  10. Resurrecting an old thread. 2013 CMaxHybrid SEL, 67k miles. Our first occurrence of SYNC locking up: no entertainment. Performed a "master reset." No change. Removed/reinserted fuse 79 only. Heard a loud "pop" when I removed the fuse, waited about 30 seconds, reinserted the (still good) fuse. Started the car, entertainment now working again. Curious that the "master reset" did NOT erase the radio/Sirius presets. YAY!
