  1. Dealer doesn't think it is a normal sound (but they don't really have had any experience with these cars so far)...but it's an electric compressor...no clutch on/off...just buzzing, then it goes away.  Not the fan...can hear the fan and it is not a crazy buzzing noise...just a typical car fan noise...maybe a little louder because the gas engine not running doesn't mask it.

  2. Reference my a/c loud buzzing noise noted above:  Dealer replaced a/c compressor and did all possible to ensure refrigerant and a/c oil was properly filled. Total cost under warranty (no cost to me) was in excess of $1,850.  Kept the car overnight, and today I picked it up after their call that the noise is still there.  They conferred with Ford Engineering in Michigan. Per Ford, none others of significance have been reported with this problem.  No solution offered, nor any indication that one is pending. Ford HDQ advised dealer to check other C-Max units on hand. Dealer had one in service for Sync update, and 2 others that are brand new. All three exhibit same issue! Temp here has been in the mid-90s...maybe why just now noise is appearing. Only thing I can offer as next step is for all on this forum with a/c excessive noise is to take to their dealer and also push for resolution. Ford HDQ said to dealer that they should not have replaced the compressor (even though the dealer found the refrigerant and oil low, as well as a leak in the system). Ford HDQ said they should have first tried the other units in stock to determine if it is "normal."  Dealer agrees that noise is excessive but has no recourse without Ford HDQ involvement in recognizing it is a big issue...car cools very good, just noisy for first five minutes. Maybe Fords are okay to be noisy...this is my first Ford out of 50 or so cars in my life time!

  3. Since my compressor noise/buzz has been temporary, the dealer thinks the new/replaced compressor with proper fluid levels will stop the noise. Car not ready tonight, will get tomorrow afternoon (Wed). Compressor from Ford parts depot arrived later than expected. Never thought to check the climate power meter.

  4. Mine is much louder, and goes off (less buss) after anywhere from 3-5 minutes...then sounds like yours. Waiting to hear from dealer re compressor replacement completion today. Mine didn't start the loud buzzing until about 3500 miles. Now have 4100 on it.

  5. Will know later today as the part is due in, and to be installed today. Dealer confident the noise is due to low compressor oil, and replacement save rather than just adding some oil. will advise once complete and resolved, hopefully tonight/tomorrow morning. Before, compressor was actually very quiet...but operating a/c does drop mileage, especially when it is very hot out.

  6. Sounds like my buzzing noise, noted above. Mine goes away after up to five minutes and is related to the a/c compressor. Took it in this morning, and it "performed" for the technician. Was told probably when manufactured the refrigerant and the oil in the refrigerant system was not filled properly/fully. Likely the oil since it cools okay. Anyway, they kept the car, ordered a new compressor (to be on the safe side, instead of just adding oil, since damage was likely due to the noise, as evidence). Compressor due in tomorrow, and about 3 hours of labor to replace it properly. They put me in a Hertz rental at no cost for the two days. Vehicle build date was Jan 7, 2013. Have 4,100 miles on it. Noise started after use over the past month or so due to hot weather here in Texas. Great dealer in Denton, TX!!!

  7. Mine has 4,100 miles on it and about a month ago it started making a "buzz" noise when I turn the A/C on. Definitely coming from the compressor, as I hear the fan for the "engine" sounding normal. After running/driving a short distance, it goes away. On restart it is there again, also for a short time. Very noticeable loud buzz. Taking it in today for analysis. So far always cools great, not like your problem. But may be early stage of compressor failure. Does your make any buzz/excessive noise? While it is buzzing, and I turn the A/C off, the noise goes away immediately.

  8. Took my C-Max to the dealer I bought it from early this morning (made an appointment a few days earlier...they checked the "IDS" to ensure the TSB was downloaded...it was) and within a half hour got the car back. Have tested it locked/unlocked, both after waiting the prescribed 3-minutes, and now works flawlessly. Doesn't matter if the car is locked or nor. Before it required two kicks if locked. Now just one kick!

Thanks to all on this forum for the info re the TSB.

  9. On my SEL, if it is unlocked, one "kick" always opens hatch. If locked, only once in awhile does it open with one "kick." But always opens when locked with two "kicks." Tried lubricating the latch and that improved the frequency to locked, one "kick" openings...but faded after awhile. Tried a brand new SEL that was at my dealer (built in late March), and it seemed to open every time (mine was built on Jan 7). Plan to have service look at it when I get my first oil change. The manual is not real clear about having the vehicle locked or unlocked for the "kick" action to open.

  10. Got mine yesterday and completed it last night. Reported lifetime mileage for 2,300 miles as 41 mpg...per the gauge. Only issues I mentioned were turning radius and needed a master reset to the Sync system...my Sirius Travel Link Weather stopped showing the real-time weather...just a white or gray screen, no "storms, wind"...a couple weeks ago. Reset fixed it immediately...handled by calling Ford Customer Service and connected with Sync expert. She led me through reinstating iPhone connection. Also, I had to reset my favorite channels for the radio presets. No impact on the Nav; it's always been fine. Vehicle was built 01/07/2013.

Also received a longer, multi-page printed survey from JD Power...crisp $1 included...a few days ago. Very thorough line of questions.

  11. I have clear "stickers" on the driver's side and passenger's side "drain" holes, and no "sticker" on the center hole. No evidence of water ever in the outside holes, and have had the car washed 3 times since new in January. There is however a small, white speck of something visible on the inside of the passenger side "sticker." Never noticed that bit before.

Maybe the angle of the hatch design allows the water to flow to the uncovered center hole for hatch drainage?

  12. And yet another. The hang of the mileage challenge will come as you get experience with the car. I get 47 mpg or more on many trips and overall average 40.4 since new <1,300 miles ago. About half of those miles have been "EV." Still not broken-in.

  13. I have an iPhone 4s and it works fine to call and receive calls via Bluetooth. Don't use it for music. But cannot get the "read text" feature to work...get the text on the phone, but not on the car. Called Sync CS and was told it won't work...Apple phones are not working to support this feature (and I guess other features as well).

    All have this experience?

  14. Checked mine...found that the rear vents on the rear floor push out air when the dash selector is set for the"floor" symbol, and not when the selector is set for the "dash" symbol (unless the "floor" is also selected at the same time). The rear vent likewise pushes out air when the dash selector is set for the "dash" symbol, and not when the selector is set for the "floor" symbol (unless the "dash" symbol is also selected at the same time).

  15. So the best we know is...that if one has Nav, the upcoming A4 card is all one needs for be able to update Sync and the Nav, and one has to request the A4 card once available. Then just replace the A3 card and all is "current." Do you think the dealers will have the A4 card for us, if we go there, or must the A4 card be requested (why won't Ford automatically send it to us since they know who we are?)??? Mine was built Jan 7 and has an A3 card.

(FYI...haven't had any issues mentioned in the Forum, and the lifetime mileage per the car's info is 40.3 mpg, with 1,158 miles on the odometer. Temp range 30-80 degrees and about 50/50 "city/highway" miles.)

Thanks in advance for any clarification, and what you think your degree of certainty is.

  16. I did not get mine at delivery...didn't know about them at that time. But in the owner's manual I found info on them the next day, and called the dealer. They went to the get-ready people, but could not find them, then looked up the key numbers, had their service dept cut replacements, and mailed them to me that day. Got them next day and put them in myself. Only issue with this car purchase.

  17. Thanks...actually with your input above, and looking again at your photo, really helps a lot. Any other measurement you can provide will be an additional assist. Did you go with the darkest tint possible?...don't know if there is any regulation on "eyebrow" darkness, like applies to the front side windows in TX. Guess my tint guy should know...

  18. Rachel...just FYI...when I decided to buy my C-Max (one the dealer had ordered as inventory) it was already on a rail car, west of the Michigan plant. The sales person couldn't get me the railcar number, but daily gave me a call or email with its location. It was built on 1/7/13 and was delivered on 1/20 (Sunday night!) in Denton, TX. Hope this gives you some idea of the timing. Maybe mine took longer than usual since it was shipped just after the holiday break? Getting that daily communication really made the time go by faster.
