  1. Hi MMax,

Do you mean that the regen might no be responding or glitching, hence the car creeps instead of slowing down for short period of time?
I wonder if a video might help provide some clue. Have you ever tried to drive the car in L gear instead of D (higher regen) and do you also have the same behavior?

Even though there are no lights on the dashboard, it might still bee worth trying to pull any trouble codes (for example using forscan which would be on of the low cost, most proficient tool for DIYers with the CMax)?

After you pull the codes, it may be worth disconnected the 12V battery and disconnect the HVB pack overnight to let some of the car module to reset, reconnect, reset codes, and pull codes one or two weeks later.

  2. As I had found enough hours of time during the year end Holidays break, I finally moved to work on my Sync 2 to Sync 3 upgrade on my 2013 CMax energi SEL 303A.

Lots of valuable information on the Ford community forums, ForScan, CyanLabs and of several contributors, like @cr08 on the forum have been a great help to get this going so thank you very much for all your insights!

I had purchased components a while back and really put off the upgrade, but so far it really gives a breath a fresh air to the CMax, and Android Auto is really welcome. Highly recommend to make the upgrade if you are running Sync 2.

    I used the following components:

    - APIM JJ5T-14G370-ACC (used from an 2018 Ford Escape with navigation)

    - USB-C hub LB5Z-19A387-B (new Ford genuine part and ordered trim adapters on aliexpress)

    - Right angle Fakra connector GPS antenna (the first one I ordered gave DTC and sometimes an error message at startup even though signal seemed to be okay, so got a different model and I am no longer getting DTC)

    - Gen1 USB power adapter cable for the USB Hub

I updated the APIM from 2.3_17109 to 3.4_22251.

The APIM was coming from the previous vehicle AsBuild, so I gathered a few reference and tried to match it as close as possible to the 2013 CMax energi SEL 303A config.

Here is the programming in abt ForScan format (again may not be optimal, so use with care)

Appreciate if you have any comments on the topic and feel free to ask if you have questions!

  3. This Ford tech says that it is generally placed off the firewall (so it may not be visible directly from underneath the case, it might not be easy to spot in the tight engine bay in the CMax

Perhaps some other members might have experience with cleaning the drain hose and give more details.

Let us know your MPG's with the new tires.

    Paul

MPG did not improve with the new tires, I think it is about 0 to -2 MPG on the first 2k miles, so I would not recommend them if mileage is your ultimate goal. I have to say I got the tires based on lower price (50 less per tire), much better snow traction than the OEMs (confirmed based on my trips to the Mountains), long thread warranty, good overall ratings from tirerack.com.

    Are the tires noisy?

For the first 2k miles, my opinion is that they have slightly higher road noise (white noise) than the OEM Energy Savers Michelin but they are much quieter (and a bit smoother) at same inflation pressure when running on road imperfections (bumps, potholes, reflective pads).

Did they try updating your car to 3.8 first?

I cannot tell for sure what the dealer's tech did but I assume he went straight to try installing 3.10

I did this update last week via USB stick. Installed without problems. You have to leave the car turned on while updating. My gas engine just turned on for a few seconds during the update, I think it took like 20 minutes or so. The update will store an xml file on your USB stick that you're supposed to send to Ford so that they 'll know you've got it. I didn't see much difference yet, except one thing....before the update, I was not able to enter my password for my home wireless network completely, after the update it worked like a charm.

The problem is that I cannot seem to be able to download the file I need for the USB stick to do it myself. When I go to https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html

the website shows " You're all up to date. Your vehicle has the most up-to-date SYNC software." with no file to download. But it the car, it shows 3.6.2 ( SYNCGen2_4.30.13171_PRODUCT )...

Supposedly the dealer (Ford Store Morgan Hill) has opened a ticket and will contact me when they get resolution...

  7. I have received a mailer that Ford has a recall "Customer Satisfaction Program 19K03" and that all Ford Sync 2 system are to be updated for free to v3.10 ( SYNCGen2_3.10.16180.EA.0_PRODUCT ) I was on 3.6.2 ( SYNCGen2_4.30.13171_PRODUCT ).

For my VIN, it seems to be a "dealer-only update". First dealer visit, the APIM would not take the 3.10 update. Second visit to dealer, with a new APIM, the were unable to load the software to make it work. So in the meantime, I am still on old version.

Anyone has had experiences with updating to v3.10 as per 19K03?
