  1. If it is true that some German Ministers knew about the problem and did nothing, I'm thinking that could bring down the German government (a call for new elections). Environmentalism is much bigger in Europe than the US; and the Green Party currently holds about 10% of government elective positions. With this effecting 11 million VW cars worldwide, and not just 500,000 in the US, I can't see the German people happy with this. It will get even worse if other German manufacturers have also been cheating.

As for the pollution, I'm not sure what more can be done, at least for the moment. You can't really ban these cars from being driven because of the harm it would cause on the innocent owners of those vehicles. At least in the US (and I would assume in other countries), VW is no longer selling diesel cars. The question will be how quickly can VW accomplish the recall on those 11 million vehicles. And maybe the more interesting question, how will it be insured these recalls are actually done. I think this may be the larger issue -- if you owned a VW diesel would you go in for the recall voluntarily, knowing it will reduce your power and fuel economy. I suspect some type of "incentive" is required to ensure people get the recall done; whether a positive incentive, such as VW paying those for the reduced economy, or punitive, such as the government requiring the recall to be done before the car can have it's registration renewed.

"You can't really ban these cars from being driven because of the harm it would cause on the innocent owners of those vehicles."

States that do an emission test (CA,TX,etc) every year will quickly get them off the street.

In TX no inspection ='s no license plate.

  2. :rant2:We took ours in for 15B04 on June 30, 2015 they also did PCM reprograming was told it was going to take 11/2 to 2 hours. well after 5 hours they said that after the testing and updating software the system wouldn't load up.  gave us a rental said it would be done the next day.  Well he called the next morning some how they burned up our instrument cluster.  they said it would be covered under the 15B04 only they said that they were back ordered but they put it on there hot sheet. Now three weeks later I call to see what was up they said no word from ford as to when they can get a new instrument cluster and he said that now he doesn't expect to get it for at least 3 months. said that ford was doing some kind of change over. I said we really would like to get our C-Max back he said he has to keep it there till the part comes in. We never really had a issue with the battery should of left well enough alone. Even with the rental they gave us its not our C-Max only getting in the 30mpg range with the rental, when we get 42 to 48mpg with our C-max our summer is over. Will think twice before taking it in on these Customer Satisfaction programs next time if we ever get it back.      vancemi

They have their polices as what corporate office tells them to do. I'm guessing they tried that years ago, got some damaged or scratched up parts. When you think about it, their making them at a fraction of the cost!. I think if you contacted them about getting a used instrument cluster would they install it and then replace it when the new one comes in? Wouldn't hurt to ask, if you're that much of a hurry.

Loaner from June 30 and no firm date for the return of our car would definitely put ME in "that much of a hurry."

  3. I had a Plymouth Satellite in the 70's. The air conditioner pump pulley broke. They said the car was too new and the parts were not in the system yet. After a week of waiting, the dealer's service manager drove to a Flint, Michigan factory where the A/C pumps were manufactured and got them to give him a new pulley off of the line. He brought it back to Ypsilanti and installed it in my car.

    That is service!

Thank you for reaching out and providing your feedback, SnowStorm. I'll be happy to document it.

CSP 15B04 refers to a concern with the battery, not the instrument cluster. I see his CSM is working with his dealer for a resolution. For any additional options, he'll need to continue working with them.

    Hi wab,

CSM's are the decision makers in the case; I do not have the ability to overturn decisions. Vancemi is able to discuss options with his CSM. :)

    Meagan

Some "decision makers" only think in a straight line.

"Car is broken, order part, put part on car, next problem, etc."

Some "decision makers" can't think in a straight line.

"Car is broken ... parts on back order... we have 6 on the lot...hhmmm... happy customer"

Maybe a well worded email (one of our demonstrator C-Max will be out of service for a few weeks) from you could knock a couple of months off of this problem...

  4. WOW, a real MPG's killer. LOL Can you monitor your TFT? ;)

    Paul

We were in the 20's one tank in S TX on state highway 130, running over 90 on a 85 mph toll rd. with a very high headwind.

I'll try to take some temperatures in a few weeks, we'll be bringing the granddaughter back from CO. I set the eco-cruse @ a gps indicated 79 mph.

79 mph turns our 11 PLUS hour commute to S central CO. into a 10ish hour trip.

  5. l think it is time to consolidate all the info we know at this point about Transmission Failures.

    1. The only info we have from FORD is that the Trans puts out a Code at 301*F.

    2. Trans Fluid Specs:

    3. Trans longevity vs Fluid temp: http://www.txchange.com/heatchrt.htm.

    4. My Trans Failed at 98Kmi and I had 82% HWY driving.

    5. My Trans Fluid was darker than normal and smelled burn.

    6. It would appear that I had the highest mileage and the only one with Grill Covers on.

    7. Most failures occur with high percentage HWY driving CMAX's/FFH.

    8. Trans has cooler behind lower grill and shutters.

    9. Shutters don't open at HWY speeds until WT reaches 215*F and this may never happen without Grill Covers. So Trans Cooler gets very little air through it to cool Trans.

    10. Shutters do open and fan turns on when A/C is turned on.

    11. the highest temp I saw with my old Trans was 199*F, with new one 193*F.

    12. It would appear that heat is being transferred from ICE to Trans.

I will add more as I think of them. :)

    Paul

    13. Trans TFT is effected by outside temps.

We're almost @ 50K miles like you most are highway miles, most @ 75+ mph.

    I'm going to go with

    # 6 we have NO covers ;) and

    # 10 in TX and New Mexico our AC is almost always on :)

  6. We tow a 2015 Fusion Energi, as we fulltime RV. My question is how do you set the car up for tow.  Is the ignition off or in accessory?  Our manual stays to turn the car off, which we do.  The longest we have towed without disconnecting or charging the car was three consecutive days, Las Vegas to Seattle, our battery was just fine after three days.  My assumption is that with the car off the draw on the battery is the same as if it were parked. So why after 4 hours of towing is it dead, would it be dead after sitting 4 hours in a parking lot?

We have to have our SEL in accessory because the transmission is in neutral.

When I hit the stop button most of the car goes to sleep, BUT not everything which will run the 12V battery down after a couple of hours, the MH keeps the battery charged through the charge wire.

  7. Greetings and welcome
The cmax has been an excellent toad, we have over 10K towed miles on it.

We like to share the $'s, Roadmaster tow bar, Brake Buddy charge wire, Blue Ox base plate.

I don't like the Patriot braking system
( the 3 legged base is a terrible idea + when it's time for the morning and every 2 hour motor run I can't get in the car )
and plan to install an Invisibrake.

  8. So just checking here - when towing the c-max on a tow dolly, are there any battery concerns?  I have seen the posts on flat towing talking about the battery problems.  I just traded my mini cooper that I had been towing on a tow dolly for a 2013 c-max, and was planning to tow it on the tow dolly also.  Just wanting to make sure before I went on my first trip with it (beginning of August).

Thanks for your help!  I'm going to cross post this on the Recreational Towing forum also, to make sure it gets seen.

No battery problems on a dolly.

Park it on the dolly just DO NOT set the hand brake.

We traded our CooperS/dolly for the Cmax. Put it on the dolly a couple of times.

Sold the dolly on Craigslist for about half what it cost to modify the cmax for 4 wheel down towing.

  9. SO I thought the new body control module and ALL new software last summer was why we jumped from 39 to 40 on a good day to 42 to 43 on ANY day.

Except for 75+ mph tanks, that went from 32/33 to 34/35.

This is our second filter it has about 20K miles on it.

We had a chipmunk living under the hood for a couple (???) of weeks last summer, I started parking in a different spot every day when I saw him/her duck in between the hood/windshield/finder.

If we drop back to the old MPG's I'm going to throw some cotton in the intake.

  10. I tested ours yesterday.

    Level street, foot on brake
Put car in reverse, take foot off brake
Car slowly moved (not going to call it accelerated) to maybe 2.5 MPH.
Speedometer didn't move till speed was approaching 2.5. Took about 20' to reach 2.5.

I suspect jchunter has a bad module and or corrupted software.

jchunter you might want to get our Ford service rep involved.

  11. What model do you have SE or SEL? With or without navigation? Wish someone start a thread of what models and options that are giving them the dead battery, parasitic amp draw problem?

There is precisely what you describe in the form of a poll in this long-standing forum thread:
