  1. NCost - What do you think about the rest of the C-Max? Is it comfortable, do you like the car's features, like its performance???
  2. I ran the report for the first time the other day. It indicated two DTCs (diagnostic trouble code). Unfortunately, I can't find an explanation anywhere on the Internet to explain the codes: C41582 and C42482. So, unless Ford publishes where these codes mean, the health report is of little value.
  3. Have you or anyone on the forum ever used these devices? It looks like a quick and easy solution to not having a spare tire.
  4. He was just jealous that you were driving a C-Max and he wasn't.
  5. This forum has been a tremendous help in understanding our C-Max and finding solutions to the problems that have occurred. And in particular, thanks to all the members who have shared their experiences and knowledge that is not available anywhere else on the planet.
  6. UPDATE: I ran the test mode and came up with two diagnostic trouble codes (DTC): C41582 and C42482. Can't find any reference to these codes on the Internet. At first, I assumed the "C" was for the C-Max but I found most DTCs start with the letter "P" and referred to power train problems. Maybe the "C" stands for "computer" errors. I'm hoping that the system rebooted and reset the computer codes to the correct settings. When my wife got into the car after the car regained power, her phone had to resync., suggesting that the computer had reset some parameters. Made appointment with dealer to have them check this out next monday.
  7. UPDATE: The C-Max started up OK this morning. After digging deep into our forum, I found information about a TSB 13-6-22 which states: "Some 2013 C-MAX, Fusion, MKZ Hybrid and Energi vehicles may exhibit the check engine lamp and/or wrench lamp illuminating acccompanied by various diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). " (if) "one or more of the DTCs are present, reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 85.01 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com." The TSB contains a long list of numbered DTCs. I'll call the dealership tomorrow. I hope this TSB will ensure no further problems. Nothing is worse than to buy a new car which randomly fails to function.
  8. I got into the C-Max this evening - foot on brake, push button. Instead of starting, I get messages in the left panel saying I'm low on oil, then a message that my engine is overheading, and then the traction control is malfunctioning. It won't start at all. The battery indicator shows charged half-way. Lights work, tailgate works, MFT seems to work OK. Car has been sitting for about 2 hours after a 20 minute drive. The radiator gauge indicates cold. Anyone experience this before? Fortunately, car sitting in front of friends house. Will call Ford on Monday to tow back to shop. We were planning a trip out west later this year but unless this is a fluke, can I trust this car hundreds of miles form nowhere????
  9. Our dealership appears to have one C-Max on the lot at a time. But they appear to sell within a month or so.
  10. I assumed it was USB 2 because otherwise Ford would have indicated USB 3. But, with all the new tech in the vehicle, I just wondered if they might have used USB 3.
  11. The next question - is the USB ports rated at USB 2 or USB 3 ports? If it was USB 3, then I would invest in a USB 3 drive so it would load songs faster or would it make any real difference?

    Run-flat tires

I got a flat tire a month or so ago. Called Ford and they had me towed to the dealer where I got a new tire (a big metal spike punctured the tire). As much as I would like to have a spare, I need the room for other things. So, I carry a tire wrench and jack so I can at least remove the tire and find a ride to the nearest tire dealer for repair or replacement. If its late at night, I'll probably use the pump and patch foam or call Ford.
  13. My dealer had difficult time uploading the 3.5.1 because they were using the dealer's wifi and it kept losing the signal and crashing the computer. The tech then found that the business office down the hall had a hardwired connection so he went out and bought a long ethernet cable and hardwired his computer in the shop bay. From then on, he had no problem updating my C-Max.
  14. Hate to burst the bubble, but when you get your first flat tire, it will take the shine out of sun shine. Now, understand, I love my C-Max, particular now that the NAV is fixed and the upgrade 3.5.1 work greats. The C-Max is like the Star Ship Enterprise - all that great technology. I can check on the weather or traffic conditions, monitor my energy performance, and sit in a cool cockpit. But when a metal spike punctioned my tire last month, it was like a sneak attach by the Borg.... resistance was futile. Fortunately, Ford's road service towed me within 20 minutes. But not having a spare tire is like not having a transporter or spare shuttle craft.
  15. I'm an Apple user and when my MFT crashes and I see the Microsoft emblem, I just have to sigh because crashing is Microsoft's middle name. BUT, I think an even better option than Apple would be a Google System. Google is far ahead of the curve than Apple when it comes to maps.
  16. People using premium in a vehicle only requiring regular gas and getting better mileage may be affected by the unconscience effort to get better mileage - That is, they are trying even harder in their driving to attain better mileage. This could also include people putting shutters on the front of the cars or little magnetic knobs on the roof to improve air flow, etc. As we make modifications to our cars to improve FE, we might coast longer, pull back on the throttle sooner, accelerate a little slower, etc., because we're really trying hard to exploit our modifications for better FE. To validate using premium, or adding devices for better FE, the vehicles must be tested in an environment that eliminates the human factor.
  17. UPDATE - After the updated MFT - I discovered they replaced my Navigation card with the A4 version. I'm not sure what changes have been made in the navigation - hopefully updated maps. The rear lift gate opens with one kick, even if doors are locked.
  18. Dealer installed the update. Everything works great. Dealer had problem using wireless connection. When they hardwired their computer to Internet, the uploading worked fine. Radio settings stayed the same Lost phone book and GPS favorites. We resynced the phone and phone book which took about 30 seconds. Discovered that we could save addresses from the phone book to the GPS which saved us a lot of time reloading addresses in GPS favorites. The new screen showing how the C-Max is using electric is OK but it is more informative for passengers than for the driver. Love having the outside temp in center screen.
  19. They are working again today trying to get the update to upload. They said the problem was with their wireless Internet connection which keeps cutting out on them when trying to install the update. I drove a loaner - Ford Focus. I prefer the C-Max.
  20. Took my C-Max in today for the 3.5.1 update and liftgate update. Apparently, during the updating, the technician lost the Internet connection and the disconnect crashed the MyFordTouch. I'm not surprised since this is a Microsoft system. The dealer needs to order a new Module ( I think they said an ATI or something like that) Ford said they would not pay for a loaner car. Dealer said they would pay for the loaner car which I will pick up tomorrow. I had a new GPS module installed about a month or so and that fixed the GPS. Everything was working fine. I'm confident that the dealership (Harrisonburg Ford) technician will work hard to get the system back up and running. He did a good job on the GPS and the dealer has treated me good.
  21. I had my C-max towed last month because of a flat rear tire. I think I got in, turned the car on, put the transmission into neutral. Tow guy raised the rear and towed car to dealer.
  22. Recumpence, good discussion - the C-Max design might be a compromise in order to get air flow to cool down electrical parts. E.g., the upper grill may be providing cooler air over the electric motor and components in the engine compartment. Open wheels also helps to keep brakes cool. I agree that the fog lights could have been shaped more arodynamically.
  23. By the way, if you hold the open button on the key fob for about 4-5 seconds, all the windows will open. If you want to close the windows, however, you have to get into the car and close them using the window buttons on the driver's door.
  24. I had an old mini-van that I wanted to replace with something smaller but with the flexibility of hauling things. I saw the European C-Max and thought that it would make a nice replacement if it was ever introduced in USA. So, when it was offered here, I was more interested in its carrying capacity than its mpg. If it came as a gas engine non-hybrid, I probably would have still bought it.
  25. We have a $65 a year tax on hybrids and electrics in Virginia. I too understand the rationale for the tax. The problem is that that some SUV hybrids get mpgs in the 20s while some gas powered cars get in the high 30s. To be fare, the tax should be on any car that EPA rates at or above, e.g., 35 mpg overall average. Gasoline cars that get mpg are also paying less road tax. So the tax should be on a vehicles mpg rating, not on its type.
