  1. Very neat!  It's flat there.  Also were you travelling West or East? ;)   West bound you will have a high battery from the grade.

It works, even with a fully loaded CMax...the secret sauce is the high battery. Let eco-cruise regen the battery as much as possible before double clicking down, the best thing is that it works > 65mph!

This was taken on the 101 between Las Posas and Carmen drive...note the speed, note the battery...note the high instant MPG.

Used this many times with my trips to Mammoth as well.

I tried it and got the same results on the same stretch of road.  It does work.

  2. Had same problem with mine.  Nose in the garage.  Driver just touched the jumper to the spud and everything started to work.  They flatbedded it to Vista Ford Oxnard where it sat for a month+ until TSB 12-11-8 came out.  Been working fine since.  :worship:

Really like the car and having fun getting the mileage.  But some days I just need to rev-up the Mustang GT.

  4. The trend of the data in the poll seems to  agree with ford that the primary issue is centered around base vehicles without the "Touch" system. though it seems like there is almost at least 1 data point for each model at this point. The idea that the 12 V isn't getting charged properly makes sense, and I think thats what others have been saying also.

The question is why do vehicles with (arguably) less complex electronics discharge more often? I hope it does fix your issue Oxnard! But when the other fix comes out, I think it might be prudent for people to get the software update!

Totally agree that when (if) they come out with the other fix we bum-rush the dealers and get the fix.  I'm not totally sold yet regarding the fix they did to my car.

  5. I'll find you one day....I was travelling Los Angeles late this afternoon and I passed a White CMax turning left to Lewis as I headed towards Simi. I know there is a Candy Blue and now a White CMax around there.

    Jus-A-CMax

As long as my C-Max keeps starting, there is a good chance you'll run into me.  Hopefully not literally!

  6. Oxnard...is this a TSB that wouldn't show up if he searched for C-max specific TSB's?  Because I asked him about that (without having the specific TSB reference number) and he said the first thing he did was look for any service bulletins since the car is so new.

I'm a little nervous about this dealership's knowledge base, frankly, because he told me this is the first C-max he's seen in his garage and he only has one hybrid certified mechanic...

Suggest that they look at this forum or contact Ford engineering, Or perhaps call the dealer who had my C-Max for a month (Vista Ford, Oxnard, CA).  Don't know for sure if they solved my problem for sure as it has only been a week back.  But I am doing the same kind of driving. Usually just 5 miles, twice a day and one 50 mile each way trip once a week. 240-250/week. Also still plugging my phone into the USB port while in the car.  Still a little gun shy and watch that everything shuts off when I park the car for the night.

My C-max is the SE with Ford Sync not My touch.

  7. I've got another one to add to the list.  Bought our C-max SE with winter package as the only added option on Saturday, March 23.  My wife tried to drive home from work yesterday (March 26) but found the battery was dead.  Roadside assistance got us to the dealership today, who said that we had a bad 12V battery (failed load test) but they didn't see any TSB's for the C-max.  Also, they didn't have any C-max batteries in stock, so we won't get our car back till tomorrow.

My question is:  of the people who have been told that they "just have a bad 12V battery" and had that replaced, has that completely solved the problem for anyone, or does the problem always resurface?  I don't want to get the car back tomorrow if it's going to happen again two days later.

Have the dealer look up TSB #12-11-8.  It is what Ford told my dealer to refer to to fix the issue.  If they can't find the TSB, have them call Vista Ford of Oxnard and ask them what to do.

  8. The dealership where they were working two dead C-max's have them in their daily newspaper ad every day.

Can't find any CMaxes in our Chicago ads either. Really mystifying. How about other parts of the country? I'm very curious if this is due to a select population ordering the car or problems under examination by Ford. What do others think?
  9. Hi All:

Ford called me Friday and informed me that they have agreed to buy my car back. Good news but sort of bittersweet because I really liked the Cmax. It was everything I was looking for in a car. I wish I had bought it 6 months from now when I am sure Ford will have figured things out. I was glad to read that Oxnard's Cmax is doing well - I hope it continues to be problem free.

They are only going to charge me 90$ for depreciation which was good. So while the buy back approval process took a little longer than I would have liked - Ford did the right thing and did not give me any hassle at all.

On a somewhat ironic note I took a Focus ST out for a test drive to see if the seats were not as bad as I remembered (they felt better this time) but when we went to start the car its battery was dead and needed a jump! (side note: 254hp in a Focus is grin inducing).

I now have a never used AutoSport custom fit sun shade for a Cmax if anyone is interested. (its pretty big since the Cmax windshield is so large)

yark99 - my dealer spent so much time driving my Cmax around trying to figure out what was wrong that when I got it back (briefly) and I drove by the dealer on the way to work it would go into EV+ mode.

    Cheers All

    Andrew

Glad Ford is backing their product by doing the buy back.  Let us know on the steps they make you take.  Keep an eye out for the red C-Max.  Easy plate to remember:  A HOT 1

  10. Just an update.  No problems YET after the "fix" they performed on Tuesday afternoon. I'm very gun-shy now.  I have only driven short runs though. 7mi. each way.  Mileage has increased into the 41 mpg on this tank with individual runs now reaching 50mpg.  Don't believe the increase is due to the fix or the fact that the car now has 1950 miles on it.  EV+ started remembering my house again yesterday after the "fix".

  11. Probably not your dome lights.  The easy fix for service is to blame the user. Bet it happens again. Check the build date of your car because some of the C-max's build before Feb. 2013 can have the problem you suffered (my was at the dealer for a month until they appeared to find a fix)  and they recommend using TSB 12-11-8 to solve the issue.

Here is the link to the letter Ford sent to my dealer and I took a photo of it.

  12. :sos: So I know how to do it, I just can't decide if I want to do it or not. 1990 mi on car. The car just came back from the dealer (one month) after the battery "fix" that everyone has been talking about.  I've been getting 40-50 mpg now.  So should I or shouldn't I?  Discuss. :sos:
