  1. The EPA can save themselves some time and money by just reviewing my stats. Short trip home from the gym. Drove to the Farmers Market along the river road with the A/C Off: My drive back home from the Farmers Market with the A/C On: And for all those that chalk this up to luck, chance, or maybe it was downhill both directions, here's the stats for this current tank of gas:

  6. Real world, South Florida, 1700 total miles, 270 trip miles, 47.4 mpg. Maybe Consumer Reports should get some instruction on how to drive a hybrid before they do their test. My first couple of fill ups were a little low on the mpg, then I picked up some tips on this forum and others and on many 6 - 10 mile trips I consistently see 50+ mpg. As long as my wife doesn't drive it the mileage stays up there.
  7. I would like to think that is the case, but the RPM reading in MView and on my ScanGuage show zero rpm.
  8. 1600 Total miles, 225 trip miles (all city driving) averaging 47.6 mpg. Maybe their testers need some more practice driving a hybrid.
  9. My latest tank of gas is averaging 47.5 mpg, 170 trip miles (all city driving), 1600+ total miles. The one thing I've been doing different on this tank of gas is using the ICE to accelerate up to and maybe slightly above the speed limit, let off the gas to let the EV kick in and then coast on electric until it's time to stop, increase my speed a little or charge the battery. Many of my 6 - 10 mile trips consistently show 50+ mpg when I shut the car off. There has been a lot of grumbling about the mileage on C-Max, but my experience shows 47+ mpg is obtainable. We have to bare in mind the car is new (still breaking in), a lot of the drivers are new to the hybrid way of driving, and the learning curve does take some time. Remember, the Prius has been around for 10+ years and there is a lot of trial and error that has been learned and passed on. Don't give up, driving a hybrid requires different driving techniques. Learn the the skills and techniques to get the better mileage, enjoy the car, and if/when gas goes through the roof, you've got your C-Max as a hedge to high gas prices.
  10. Got to thinking about the oil pressure the other day. If there was a gauge showing the oil pressure, it would be constantly be going to zero every time the engine shut off with the car in EV mode. Not sure you would want to be looking at that all the time.
  11. My last fill up was with E0, 90 octane, and 12.1 gallons. I've driven about 125 miles, all short trips around town doing errands. I'm currently at about 47.3 mpg. My previous fill up was E10, 87 octane and 43 mpg. I started using the pulse and glide method with this tank of gas, so I can't really say how much the E0 contributed to the increase, maybe half? Even if the entire increase was attributed to E0, I might save i gallon of gas on a ten gallon fill up, which would cost me an extra $5.00 over 87 regular. Here's an article on pulse and glide: http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1224
  12. Darrelid, no the engine wasn't cold. I was coming back from Lowes, so it had warmed up on the way there. If I remember correctly, the mpg on arriving at Lowes was somewhere in the low 50s.
  13. Here's something else I learned from the video. I was having trouble figuring this out since i had reset the trip information a couple of times already and the familiar destinations in the EV+ mode did not erase. From page 181 of the owners manual: Note: Learning frequent destination takes approximately two to four weeks of use. Note: Familiar destination locations are reset through the information display when the trip information is reset. After watching the video, the familiar destinations are cleared when you reset the lifetime information display.
  14. Just got back from a trip to Lowes, 5.2 miles and when I shut the car off, the mpg registered 65 mpg. My best short trip so far. December 2 Two short trips today, one about 13 miles and the other about 7. Information display showed 50 mpg on both legs. With 150 miles on this tank, holding above 47 mpg, actual today is 47.6
  15. I filled up the other day with the tank approaching empty. The fuel pump symbol had turned yellow on the way to the gas station. Just before I got there (about 15 miles away) the fuel symbol color changed to red and the the fuel low warning popped up on the information display. Total gallons pumped: 12.127. And that is for a 13.5 gallon tank. My wife did most of the driving on this tank of gas and she averaged about 37 MPG. To be fair to my lovely wife, the information display showed 39.3 mpg. Total miles on this tank 447 and it was two weeks between fill ups. Keep in mind, she doesn't know anything about hypermiling, ICE, regen braking, coasting. She just mashes the gas pedal and goes. I'm getting close to 8 mpg more on this tank of gas.
  16. I installed the Ford accessory Rear Bumper Protector today. The bumper side of the protector is sticky so use lots of soapy water when you put the protector down on the bumper. The kit comes with a yellow squeegee device for smoothing out air bubbles. The protector is a thick plastic material that should offer some protection from inadvertent drops and/or scrapes from items being moved in or out of your cargo area.

  21. Installed the front and rear mudflaps on my C-Max SEL today. The front mudflaps required one hole to be drilled in the plastic wheel well material and the rear mudflap required one new hole in the wheel well material and underneath on the bumper material. The instructions are for both the US and European C-Max. FOE is European and FNA is North American. Rear Mudflap Front Mudflap As a side note, the pictures show a diagram for jacking up the front and rear wheel: Front jack point.
  22. My wife had the opportunity to drive our C-Max SEL exclusively for about 12 days because I was out of town. She drove about 400 miles with about 137 miles on EV, two 50 mile round trips to the airport and the rest around town. Her average mpg was 38.5. She drives the C-Max like any car she has ever driven. She doesn't know anything about EV, ICE, regen braking or hypermiling techniques. I was typically getting about 43 mpg around town. We have about 1500 miles on the car now, so it's still breaking in. I know the C-Max is capable of better than 38.5 mpg, but you do have work a little harder with your driving techniques to achieve those higher numbers. I plan on filling up with ethenol-free gas and I'll post the results on the gas mileage when I get them.
  23. Just bad luck. I've had mine for a month now with nary a problem. Might want to brush up on the lemon law requirements to see when you can demand a replacement. You could even complain enought to maybe get some free upgrades.
  24. I'm pretty sure you do it the same way. While the lifetime report is showing, hold the OK button until it resets.
