  1. I averaged 42mpg last winter with mine (northern Illinois). I am at 49.1mpg lifetime average for nearly 37,000 miles and climbing. I am very curious about this winter too (with the updates). Matt
  2. My mileage for the last two days combined is 60.5mpg. Heck, I have averaged over 700 miles per tank for the last 22 (yes, you heard me correctly 22) fillups! Oh, my bad Ford LIED and this car is a freaking pig and will NOT get the rated 47mpg. I completely agree. I cannot seem to get 47mpg. I get FAR HIGHER! Of course, I still took the $550. :) Matt
  3. Mine is coming up on a year in November. Closing in on 37,000 miles at this point. I love my car. I have gotten used to it, but the thrill still has not worn off. Matt
  4. Yes, aero mods are still on. I have run (IIRC) 21 tanks through my car since the weather has warned up and I have averaged over 700 miles per tank for all of those fillups! Also, that is in normal day to day driving with 300 pounds of equipment on board for work. This car is awesome. Matt
  5. I have this to say; You are running your car in the absolute worse case scinerio. What I mean by that is this; #1 (as everyone has mentioned) defrost is the hardest climate setting you can use. #2 (this has not been mentioned, unless I missed it) you are running primarrily very short trips. ALL cars suffer hugely with innitial startup and the first few miles. The first 10 miles I generally see under 40mpg even in warm temps and sunny. However, my second 10 mile trip (once the car has been warmed up) is normally 50mpg. After that my mileage continues to climb until, by the end of the day, my total mileage average is typically around 57 to 58mpg (sometimes around 56mpg). Oh, I have 36,000 miles on my car with 53psi in the tires with no problems at all. I still have tons of tread left. :) Matt
  6. I got mine today. :) I had an X-plan pin code as well. This was the easiest purchase I have ever made for a car. I already did all of my research. So, I wanlked in (knowing what I wanted to buy) and said "I'll take that silver SEL on the lot." The salesman asked if I wanted to drive it. I gave him my pin code and he ran my credit. After running my credit, he said "Well, we are giving you another $1,000 off the car and 1.5% financing because of your high credit score." So, I saved $2,500 plus this $550! I am thrilled. After 35,700 miles, I still love the car. As a side note, I wrote a letter to an oral surgeon about a bill I paid back in June. I complained that the bill was much higher than quoted. I just recieved a $350 check from his office last week (as with the C-Max, it was purely out of good will). That $350 is going in my savings account. Oh, my $550 is going straight into my savings account too! :) It is easy to blow found money. So, I am doing my best to avoid that. I blow enough money anyway. ;) Matt
  7. You guys need to allow the computer to reacilmate to your driving style. The updates clear the computer. The computer must relearn your EV destinations (as already mentioned), but also your driving style to optimize things. When the car was new, the engine would always start at a relatively high RPM. As you put more miles on the car, the computer allows the engine to start with the transmission in a taller ratio. This taller ratio is quieter and smoother, but lower power. Over time, the computer will relearn your driving technique and should reintroduce the higher transmission start ratio. Matt
  8. Hello All, My son and I went for a 30 mile bike ride yesterday. I loaded our two bikes on the back of my Max (hatch mounted bike rack). The bikes are standard 26 inch wheeled mountain bikes. So, the wheels stuck out the sides of the body of the car into the air stream. My mileage for this route is typically around 56 mpg (55 minimum, about 58mpg maximum). However, my mpg with the bikes on the rack was only 47.1mpg on this trip (round trip). I am posting this here to share just how sensitive a highly efficient car is to aero. Matt
  9. 48.4 Mpg with 33,000 miles on the car. Oh my lifetime brake score is 96% Matt
  10. They get paid for warrantee work, but not for recalls. I was told this, specifically, when bringing my car in last week. Matt
  11. The easiest thing to check is to see if the main screen shows the outside temperature next to the time at the top center of the large screen. If so, you have the latest update. If the top of the large LCD screen shows only the time, you need the update/s. Oh, every day since my update (3 work days in a row), I have averaged 60mpg. So, either the weather has been perfect and my driving has been perfect, or the updates have helped my in town MPG by around 1mpg or so. Matt
  12. I like pointing to my mileage (for the day) that on most days is over 58mpg. Today I had a customer ask me about my mileage and I told him "I am at 60.4mpg for the day as I rolled into your driveway....." He didn't have much to say after that. :) Matt
  13. OK, I just finished my second day in a row averaging over 60mpg. It is rare to have two 60mpg days in a row. So, I may be seeing a tiny improvement in my in town driving with the updates. At this point, it looks like it is helping me somewhere around 1/2 to 1mpg. That is hard to say, however, until I have a larger number of days with the updates to see how everything averages out. Matt
  14. In my case, I researched the cost of our 1.4kWh pack and found out it was $3,400. Assuming the pack lasts 170,000 miles, at my local gas prices, I will save $20,000 in gas compared with my previous minivan by the time the car reaches that affore mentioned 170,000 miles. Matt
  15. I have 31,400 miles on my car and I average 59mpg in summer and 42 in winter (in town). I love this car. Of course, I have not had any problems with it yet. But, so far so good. My dealer know quite a bit about the cars now. When I bought mine, I knew more than they did, however. As a side note; When I took my car in for all the updates, the service guy almost shouted "Is that correct? 31,000 miles? Seriously? Geeze, that is a lot of miles!" :) Matt
  16. Well, I have put my first full day of driving on the car and averaged 60.4mpg for the day. Very good, indeed, but not beyond a very good day before the updates. A few more days of driving will be very telling. I have to say I love the updates! I like the power flow screen. That is excellent when cruising and not using the GPS. I hated looking at the boring home screen. At least the power flow screen looks pretty and gives you something to be amused by (and the passengers). I noticed the commands are all processed much faster than before. I also noticed the hybrid system behaving differently. I cannot put my finger on exactly what that difference is, but it is different in behavior. I will keep posting my findings as I have them. Oh, my lifetime MPG is currently 48.1 with 97% brake score. Averaging 41mpg over the winter has killed me. :) Matt
  17. Hey Guys, I just picked up my car from my dealer with all four updates installed. At this point I have over 31,000 miles on my car. So, it is completely broken in. My typical average for a day of driving ranges from 58mpg to 60.5mpg. So, over the next couple days, I will report back on how the updates improve my (mostly 35mph) mileage. I hope the in town mileage improves with these updates. I know highway mileage is what Ford was trying to improve. Matt
  18. Hey All, We spent the afternoon in Chicago yesterday and I saw three different C-Max taxis. I was not quick enough with the camera to get a picture. But, it was good to see them in use. Oh, they looked very good as taxis. The tall profile and large amount of space on the sides for lettering made them look far more natural as taxis than the Prius and Camri hybird taxis that flood Chicago's streets. :) Matt
  19. As a side note, that is not tempered glass. Tempered glass always shatters into a million tiny beads. It does not crack at all. It will just explode into tiny beads with nothing of any size left. Matt
  20. My dealer told me Ford pays them nothing for recalls. I do not know about warranty work. Anyway, the issues I keep having is the freaking Sync system. Talk about buggy. Hopefully the updates will help. The C-Max is one of the most advanced cars on the market. That has got to be part of this. Matt
  21. Personally, I accellerate at just OVER 2 bars. What I did is to train myself to accellerate as hard as I can while maintaining a positive battery charge. So, watch the charge arrow. Accellerate at the highest degree possible while keeping the charge arrow pointed up. Matt
  22. They will positively affect the new FE update. The reason is, the new updates affect EV use on the highway. EV has far less power available than with the engine running. So, if the air drag is reduced, the EV will have a better chance of keeping the car going at the higher expressway speeds. Therefore, rather than negating the new updates and their affects, I should see a slightly better increase than the average user. Matt
  23. Yes, that is one of the fugliest cars I have ever seen! That is a typical ultra-hypermiler vehicle (though a lot uglier). I am a member of teh Ecomodder forum. That is a great resource for all things related to MPG. Matt
  24. I have mentioned this in another thread, but I will repeat it here; I am all for a 85mph limit for EV and here's why; On a hilly road above 63mph, the engine stays running even down hill. That is a problem because the engine is still using gas. It would be far better for the engine to shut off running high speed down hill to save the gas. I bet that on a flat road at 85mph, the engine will run pretty much all the time. It is the decents that will shut the engine down. Matt
