Adair
I'm not ignoring you CMax-Traveler, honest. I was sorta waiting for Jus to weigh in about the lack of picture, since it's his thread. Maybe we'll hear from him this weekend. Ditto for me, Adair, unless the math was just too much to be eligible. BTW, I edited my post to add the EV miles.
ptjones
I already gave you the information. The fuel pump runs to keep the ICE running. No fuel from the pump equals no ICE operation. Untitled-1.jpgI'm sorry but the point was whether you would damage your fuel pump if you ran out of gas. Using your info you can conclude you won't. :) Paul .Jus, congratulations great job! BTW you only averaged 19.3mph so the only MOD that would have been helpful was the Grill Covers. Nice going! :shift: :clapping: :yahoo: BTW how many gal. did you put in your tank? Paul Edited May 1, 2014 by Jus-A-CMax

PaulThanks Paul, appreciate it. Yeah, telling me...city driving, spend as much time sitting on traffic lights as actually driving :drop: I had some nasty, nasty traffic & long waits on this trip but hey, everyone knows you're trading time for FE. Seriously, there is far more traffic on this tank that I can remember - could be the cost of gas is down to $3.89 a gallon here in Los Angeles...not good when I am saving gas and every other car here is a SUV guzzler hooning to the next red light (I counted like 5 instances of this just this morning commute) *sigh* My Costco tank receipt was 14.35 - but- that included filling up my spare tank that I had to use. Its complicated but my estimated math shows the actual was more like 14.05 gallons filled (topped iup included). I also had some "overfill" when I topped the spare tank (silly me). At least now I when if I top up to the max, my "gas used" limit is 13.45 but I don't usually break 13.00 as a rule except this time. As well, this is the 2nd time I ran out of gas in all my 20,671 miles of driving. I think I am done with the hypermiling for now, its snow season coming up fast and I have some long trips...so its unlikely I will try again until May/June next year when I am done with the snow. Have at it fellas...I like to see someone join me in the 800+ Club, its do-able, and this is my 3rd 800+ tank. If this doesn't spurr you Hyper :) milers ON, a nude Catherine Deneuve (if you don't know the name, google it ;) ) in a CMax is the ONLY THING left and I don't know if I can swing that one... Edited September 27, 2013 by Jus-A-CMax salsaguy and ptjones

chuckles
[ This is my new personal best for miles and mpg. Put in 13.11 gallons for an actual mpg of 49.427. Was doing a lot of local driving due to recovery from rotator cuff surgery. Did not use AC due to pleasant temperatures. Still seeing just under 5% error on fuel used which give a higher indicated mpg than actual. Had the latest PCM and MFT update installed today, so will see how that effects my results in the future. Jus-A-CMax
Ok, here we go, here's my disaster of an entry into the 700+ Mile Club. I accidentally reset my Trip 1 a couple days ago, as I was approaching 700. But, fortunately, I have enough photos that I'm able to account for the entire tank (minus a 0.9 mi gap between Trip1 and Trip2 resets -- close enough, I hope). Photos are here: (Link to the photos because it's large) So, here's the deal:0. At ODO 1530.5mi, I reset Trip2.1. At ODO 1561.4mi, I took a photo of Trip2, and then 0.9mi later, at 1562.3mi I reset Trip1.2. At ODO 2163.3mi, I took a photo of Trip1 and reset it3. At ODO 2792.3mi, I took a photo of Trip1 and reset it4. At ODO 3493.0mi, I took a photo of Trip2 -- this is my 700+mi tank. So, by subtracting 1, 2, and 3 from #4, I can give you exactly what the last tank was (minus 0.9mi, we'll be conservative and assume worst case that I used zero fuel for that). Time: 84:18:42 - 24:44:14 - 22:42:03 - 00:42:54 = 36:09:31Distance: 3493.0mi - 2792.3mi = 700.7miEV: 1163.1mi - 347.4mi - 327.0mi - 10.4mi - 0.9mi = 477.4mi EVGallons: 39.57 - 13.01 - 12.44 - 0.66 = 13.46galMPG: 700.7mi / 13.46gal = 52.06mpg Tada. Let me know if there are any questions or if I screwed up my math somewhere. Onward to 800 :) (Edited 9/26 to add EV) OK, that good enuf for me as well. :congrats: , welcome to the 700+ CMax Club. One thing I will ask...fotomoto and CMax-Traveler, as you both are now in the clubs, you need to replicate your runs and give us a photo when you clock over. It's all approximate anyway and if you clock more than 600 plus on all city driving, good for you cause you just saved a whole ton of gas as the bottom line. Lets make this FUN as we have a very fun car to drive and all of us like to tinker and CMAX up our mileage. This is my personal best.... By the way, my word of advice for those who want to try this out - carry a extra fuel in a container, just in case. I know I am going to... ;) You must be driving incredibly slow all the time on very flat roads 100% of the time to get to that number?\ Edited May 1, 2014 by Jus-A-CMax

Jus-A-CMax
Even if you jus turn on the CMax on accessory mode - NOT engine on, the Trip computer timers will tick away. How stupid is that, which is why I don't and never liked using the time as a base for someone to calculate your "average" speed. Well....you must have been driving "slow"....really...lets really think about that average "slow" speed, so you're telling me that I drove at 1/2 of the posted speed limit (35-45mph zones), in peak hour & flowing traffic, back/from work for 3 entire weeks...HELL....other drivers don't have to take me out, I'll take myself out :nonono: Reality vs theory :banghead: The timers would be more better if they base it on the Engine ON & when wheels are moving. Paul Paul I'm not quite sure what you said, went over my I.Q. but thanks for taking the time to post it. ;) But I do understand that the numbers at the top of trip1 or 2 are the actual hours, minutes, seconds on a given tank since last reset. What I was trying to say is to get that many miles on a single tank. You must be driving very slow and on very flat roads to get that much out of a tank. I know what it took for me to squeeze out a 602 tank. I can't imagine what it takes to get a 833. ptjones
:woohoo: :shift: :bliss: 863.4! 63.2mpg! The ACTUAL MILELAGE FROM GPS WAS 875mi.!!!!!! Made a trip from Newnan, GA to Deland, FL and back and here are the results! You will notice that the GPS shows a difference between the actual miles and the C-Max odometer was off by 1.4%. I used back roads to be able to run between 40-55mph. I averaged 40.3mph - the GPS shows 38.9mph because I did some City driving after the trip. Actual moving time was only 22 hours 31 minutes. Smart gauge time was 23 hours 36 minutes. Will add more details later once I have a chance to review the data. I used Grill Covers, GASPODS, 45lbs/psi in tires,ScanGauge, Garmin GPS, covered fog lamps and topped off with No Ethanol gas. Weather, winds little and variable, 84-63degree temps Traffic little for the most part, congested in some of the larger towns. Drafting on back roads is programmatic. Most trucks are gravel, logging and etc. are undesirable drafting partners and they go 65mph which is to fast for excellent MPG's. My brake scores are high 90's and EV% was 66%.
