takingittothemax
Ford just launched the Maverick pickup this morning. Based on the Bronco Sport and Escape, it has a unibody structure (unlike the Ranger and F-150). It starts at just under $20k with a standard FWD 2.5 liter hybrid (2 liter turbo is optional with FWD or AWD). Given the starting the price, I'm expecting the interior quality to be more like the EcoSport than our C-Maxes.
cr08
No, but really glad to see another vehicle in Ford's stable that is coming with a hybrid drivetrain standard, especially in the pickup segment. I think this is the first since the C-Max? Also seeing this package offered under $20k is insane. I see they mention a CVT on this, I wonder if it is specifically going with the eCVT model? Does Ford have any other vehicles currently with a traditional belt/chain operated CVT that they could borrow from? takingittothemax
Given that the drivetrain will be shared with the Escape, it'll be an eCVT. Journalists just write CVT as shorthand for a stepless transmission even if it's a Ford/Toyota style eCVT.
jmcgliss
I read that Ford announced this will have a first-ever built-in-house hybrid driveline. So, different from what's in the 2020-21 Escape Hybrid? EDIT: The hybrid powertrain differences are described here: MotorTrend Review Edited June 10, 2021 by jmcgliss
takingittothemax
Oh, yeah. The press release says it has an "in-house-designed and manufactured electric traction motor". The release also mentions a CVT. I'm still suspecting it's the same eCVT setup as before, but I could very well be wrong. Both the Escape and Maverick will have a 2.5L Atkinson cycle 4-cyl. The Escape makes a total of 200hp, while the Maverick will only have 191hp. Escape Hybrid is FWD or AWD, while the Maverick Hybrid is FWD only. SnowStorm
Uh-Oh, my wife wants one - the "baby blue" color in the video! (Is that the Area 51 color or what?) She's tired of the Fit. Just wish it was an EV!
homestead
Yeah I think that is the Area 51 color. Funny my wife wanted a Fit in 2013 but I talked her into getting C-max.
jmcgliss
Does anyone think that the Maverick front end looks more Chevy/GM than Ford?
ptjones
I'm amassed by the price. Maybe they will have a plugin model. Paul
METROMAN
I wish the bed was longer than 4.5 ft. I had a Honda Ridgeline pickup with an 5.5 ft bed that I sold a few months ago to buy a GM Sierra with a 6.5 ft bed. If they should make one with a longer bed, I'd be interested. fbov
Given you can't get an AWD Hybrid, I doubt you'll see plug-in or bed extension. This is a bit of a niche product, under Range, above EcoSport, but with options for those wanting lots of capability.
