Washer Fluid Leaking

Noticed today that the washer fluid was low so I added quite a bit of fluid…more than I thought I have ever used since January purchase…car built early January. Then checked the garage floor and noted "blue" stain/liquid under vehicle, just forward of the right front tire. Took it to the dealer and inspection determined the windshield washer motor is leaking. Ordered a new part for me. Will be there in a day or two.

Hello. First Post. I have owned my CMax for 4 months and ran out of Windshield Washer Fluid for the first time today. I was shocked I did not get a low washer fluid indication on the dash.  So I searched forum posts and also looked in CMax manual if a Low Windshield Washer indicator exists and could not find anything.

 

Does the CMax have a low Windshield Washer Fluid indicator?

 

Also, is it normal for front sprayers to go dry and still have rear sprayers working? (It looks as if they share the same tank)

There is mention of it in the Information Displays part of the manual, but that appears to be an editing error. There is no sign of such a thing in the service manual that I can find.

I’ve had our front bumper off and there is only one tank and the front and rear share the same fluid pick-up.

Have you added any fluid?

If your rear sprayer is still working you may have a problem??? and probably need a visit to your dealer.

 

If you’re sitting still and use your front spray does fluid run out from under the car, probably on the passenger side?

Thanks jdbob for looking in the service manual. Looks like the CMax does not have a low Windshield Washer fluid indicator. All the past car's I've owned had this indicator...I'm kinda disappointed Ford did not add this to the CMax. I generally would fill up washer fluid tank every oil change with my other cars. However, with the longer CMax oil change interval, I guess I will need to top-off the tank more often in the winter so I do not run-out unexpectedly. 

 

 

Thanks wab for confirming there is only one tank. I filled the tank and confirmed there is no leak. Both front and back washers work fine now. I still find it odd that the front sprayer appears to stop working on low fluid while the rear washer continued to work. Perhaps the hose/pickup location in the tank are different for the front an back sprayers.

I just had the same thing happen to me. The front nozzles went dry, but the back ones still had a few shots left in them.

 

I assume this is because the hose which leads from the shared tank up front to the rear nozzles is necessarily a LOT longer than the hose to the front ones, so even after the tank runs dry, there's still plenty left in the line for a few more squirts.

 

That aside, I'm as shocked and appalled as you are to learn that there's no "Low Washer Fluid" indicator on our cars. WTH, Ford?
