Sync and Iphone 4

Recommended Posts

I've had numerous problems with Sync connecting to my iphone 4 (version 6.1.3). Sync locks up (but works with other features) and won't connect to the phone one time and then the next time it will recognize the phone. Had the computer rebooted and updated software several times at the dealership.

Recent problem is playing music from the iphone via bluetooth. It starts out fine, then "pauses" on the MFT screen, but continues to play on the iphone. I hit "play" on the MFT screen and it picks up the song where it is on the iphone, but constantly drops the bluetooth signal.

The dealership wanted me to update to version 7 claiming to be a phone software issue, but I only have a 8gb on the phone and Verizon does not recommend updating to v7 for my phone. The iphone plays music great, so I honestly doubt that it is the problem. Haven't tried connecting via the USB, but several in this forum are recommending against that. I think the problem is with the MFT's bluetooth software. Any suggestions? I have about 2gb of music on my phone.

Unfortunately you have a slightly different combination of hardware and software than I do, but I do normally use the USB connection for the music and it works fine.

I have a 4S on iOS 5.something and my normal operating mode is to plug the USB cable into the phone for the music, and it seems to use the bluetooth connection for the phone activity.  I've never had a problem with it linking up in either mode.  It does seem to always start on the same song if I leave it in random mode, but if it was playing something when I turned off the car or unplugged, it will pick up where it left off.  I also have a 16 GB USB stick that I copied my music onto that I leave plugged in, in case I forget the phone or someone else is using the car.  It plays music off that just fine, as well-- if the music isn't DRM'd you can just copy it to a cheap USB stick and leave it plugged in.

I wouldn't upgrade an iphone 4 to iOS 7-- it might fix one problem at the cost of making the phone mostly unusable.  I didn't upgrade to 6 because of the maps issues, and then 7 is enough generations away that I expect it will kill the battery life and make the phone slow.

chrisl, I have a 4s and get every update so it's up to 7.0.4 now and I've notice no real performance issues.  Maybe jumping from 5 to 7 would be noticeable.    I have no issues with streaming or plugging in via USB (the latter has been only a couple of times though); rather, it's issues with reading text for me.

I have two CMaxes and two iPhones (4s and 5s) and they both stopped reading txt messages at around the same time.  I figured it was an apple update that did it but it had been several weeks since the latest one.  I posted a question on the sync forum (deadsville) with no response.  In the meantime, I cancelled the sync contact in my bluetooth settings and then re-paired the phone.  That didn't work with immediate text tests but a day later it works again!   :headscratch:    Maybe it was powering off/on the car (rebooting) overnight after the re-pairing that did the trick(?).   :headscratch:

@Fotomoto, my HTC One has a similar issue with reading texts in that it just stops reading them at random times. To get it to recognize them again I have to disconnect, then forget the connection, then reconnect. It will work then until it doesn't. Lather, rinse, repeat.

So it's not just an Apple issue, but probably Microsoft or MFT.

As a follow up to my post #3, I was able to fix my wife's CMax the same way.  She has a 5s.   In MFT, delete phone.  On phone, delete Sync.  Restart phone.  Restart car*.  Pair phone (make sure "Show Notifications" is set to on in bluetooth settings; default is off).  Next step is very important (don't skip): Restart car*.  Txt can now be read.

Even though my issue is unrelated to the OP's, I suggest he try the above and see if it clears that bug too.

* open and closed door to completely turn off MFT system.  If not, it stays active for several minutes.

Hey, Springbank,

There were some Bluetooth Audio issues with iOS 6 that were corrected once updated to 7.0; however, I'd suggest connecting your phone via USB to see if this issue still presents itself. You can also perform the steps that fotomoto suggested above, but I can't speculate on if that will help with your concern.

@ Fotomoto, I have done the reset with deleting the phone and following those steps to get the phone reconnected again several times before. Annoying, but at least the phone will pair with the system for dialing and receiving calls. Sadly, this reset has not resolved the issue with playing music. Guess I will try with the USB.

I just find it frustrating since my husband's Infinity has never had an issue with bluetooth or with the system pairing with the phone. My dealer says that this issue is related to the CMAX being a hybrid and the MFT system, but I'm not sure where the problem ls. Just would like to consistently have the phone sync with the MFT system without resetting it so often.
