Generalbeluga
Good Bye C-Max Forum! I bought my C-Max new in 2013. I have spent a lot of time at Galpin Ford getting the many (8 at last count) recalls fixed. It is clear that Ford rushed this one to market and it was not ready for prime time! Having said that, I loved the car. It's performance, fit and finish and it's fuel economy was great! Unfortunately, I just couldn't get my head past the CVT transmission recall and the cost of replacing the hybrid batteries, so I dumped it and bought a 2018Subaru Forester Premium. The story begins when I had contacted Ford Customer Service twice over the past three years and was told each time that my car had no active recalls for the CVT even though my vin number was smack dab in the middle of those cars that we supposedly affected. At one point I was told that my car was built in another plant, not effected by the CVT problems. Than during my most recent call to them, I was told that the Detroit plant makes all C-Max cars. As my confidence in the Ford's information regarding the recall waned, I could just see my self getting screwed in three or four years when my tranny dumps and Ford says that is it not covered and I get a $5,000 repair bill! Add to it, that I had almost 50,000 miles on the car and it needed new tires ( $600) and new brakes ($740) not to mention the possibility of new hybrid batteries in the next five years or so for a cool $3,000. I "hemmed and hawed" over it for a few weeks and then made the mistake of contacting a local Subaru dealer and told them that if I could get a new 2018 Subaru Forester Premium with the Eyesite safety equipment and option package 15 for $29,000 "out the door," I would buy it. Well guess what, I received a call a day later and the salesman told me that they had "my car" and it was waiting for me on their lot. The rest is history! I dumped a potential disaster and bought one of the best AWD SUV's around. For icing on the cake, the forester gets 32 mpg HWY and 28 overall! Add 48 months no interest financing and it was a no brainer. Sorry Ford, but the C-Max was my last Ford automobile! Good luck to the rest of you C-Max owners. ptjones
To me it looks like you talked yourself into wasting a lot of money and you will keep on wasting it with less MPG's. 1. At five years your car should be payed off and I'm thinking you are going to end up with payments on new car.2. I'm unaware of any trans recalls and most 2013 don't fail, on this Forum we have only 23 that have failed between CMAX Hybrid/Energi and FFH with thousands of members between three Forums. BTW the trans is warrantied for 8yrs/100k mi. so it looks like you would have been covered for another three years anyways.3. The OEM tires are rated at 55k mi. and with 5 yrs on the tires it is time to replace them. No problem here, normal maintenance. 4. Are you saying there is a problem with your brakes? That's unusual for CA car. Mine still look pretty new with 188 k mi. on them.5. Then there is the cost for the extra gas you will have to buy with atleast 12 mpg loss in gas mileage and you are paying more than $3 a gallon too. OUCH! :sad:6. The HVB will easily last the life of the car if you looked at the HVB Test thread and I'm not aware of any HVB failing on this Forum. Looks like you were trying justify your decision with negative emotions and not the real facts that are on this forum. I have currently 188k miles on my 2013 CMAX SEL and FORD has taken care of any problems I had, no complains here. :) Good Luck with your new car and hopefully you won't have any problems with it. Paul Sorry to see your flawed rationale in "dumping" your C-Max, Generalbeluga including past trips to Galpin for recalls? and a non-existent transmission recall? But it's your money "out the door". The Forester is a great vehicle - enjoy it. Paul, remember: I buy new golf clubs every few years for "stupid" reasons. ptjones
obob
I don't think problems with the integrity of dealers' service managers is just a Ford problem. I have paid extra money to get work done on my c-max just to avoid my dealer. ( like inspections and tire work ) I really dislike being lied to. Though some dealers are better than others, and even within a particular dealer there may be people that are not paid by commission that want to control the service managers. I have had bad experiences with Toyota dealers that have cost me money. (NOTE: I copied this post to this thread which seems like a more appropriate spot for it.) http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/7103-good-bye-ford-c-max/ Edited March 27, 2018 by obob
ptjones
I agree with obob that Dealers vary a lot and I'm lucky to have a good one and they aren't even an Electric one. I buy my Michelin's from them because they beat anybodies else prices. :) Check ups and oil changes are $30, I really can't complain. kostby
UPDATED 04-05-2018 7pm Ford reports combined sales of 995 C-MAX Hybrids and C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrids for March 2018. 890 C-MAX Hybrids and 105 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during March 2018, for a combined total of 995. There was a discrepancy between two of my usual source sites for the break-out of C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid sales from C-MAX Hybrid sales:HybridCars.com reported 105 C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid sales and 890 C-MAX Hybrid sales, a total of 995, matching Ford's report. InsideEV's initially reported 0 March C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid sales. UPDATE: InsideEV's received detail with the correct number from Ford after 4pm on Wednesday, and has now updated their chart to 105. I was inclined to believe the HybridCars.com report. I found it highly unlikely that NO additional C-MAX Energi Hybrids still in inventory were sold last month. A fast search on Cars.com shows 156 new 2016 and 2017 C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrids listed for sale across the country. Cargurus.com shows 117. Ford's own website lets you search for 2017 C-MAX Energi, but doesn't show any within 100 miles of central Indiana. From personal experience, none of the major online car-shopping sites includes EVERY available new car at EVERY dealership. UPDATE: On cars.com, the nearest new C-MAX Energi Hybrid models were located more than 500 miles from central Indiana. That list included one located in Hawaii! Wonder what the E-mpg rating is over water? https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/04/03/march-18-sales-rls.pdfhttp://www.hybridcars.com/march-2018-sales-dashboard/https://insideevs.com/march-2018-plug-in-electric-vehicle-sales-report-card/ As always, prior month chart and tables are removed because the latest post contains all prior data. Shearwater
We just bought one of the remaining 2017 models, a white gold Titanium, from Hudson Ford in Hudson Wisconsin. If memory serves, they still have a 2017 SE on the lot. Plus a half a dozen low mileage SE loaner cars, all 2017 with 2000-3000 miles each. They appear to have one of the best inventories of any dealer in the Twin Cities right now.
kostby
973 C-MAX Hybrids and 18 C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrids for 991 combined were sold during May 2018.https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/06/01/18-may-sales.pdfhttps://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ Prior month charts and table are removed from older posts in this thread because current month contains all prior data. Random Thoughts as the US C-MAX story draws to a close, with the end of production of all C-MAX Hybrid models in early May 2018, after the end of C-MAX Energi production in December 2017.Combined US C-MAX sales of all models during 2012-2018 are just over 140,000 as of May 31, 2018. I doubt that there are 10,000 C-MAX vehicles in dealer inventory and in the delivery pipeline, so the US C-MAX chapter will close 7 years of production with total sales of less than 150,000, falling far short of two decent months of F-150 truck sales.Although initially marketed as a 'Prius killer', C-MAX Hybrids were never more than niche vehicles, primarily to help Corporate Average Fuel Economy numbers. Mustang and Focus account for about 50% of retail passenger car sales -- Is it any wonder that Ford is now choosing to prioritize Trucks, SUV's Mustang, and Focus?Other than vague details of a future "Model E" announced to be built in Mexico several years ago, to my knowledge, there are no formally-announced Hybrid, plug-in Hybrid, or full-electric 'C-size' Ford vehicles to replace it.Ford Fusion (and thus Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi Hybrid) are ALSO on the list of passenger cars slated to go away. Will a loyal Ford buyer (is there even such a thing as a loyal brand buyer any more?) wait for the next Ford Hybrid, Ford Plug-in Hybrid, or Ford Battery Electric vehicle, or will they look elsewhere?
