SPL Tech
Should get some good data on The Enterprise over the weekend. I finally dug out an OBD Pros interface I had and tried it out - it worked. But the freebie software that came with it is super simple and looks like its from the days of DOS. Found this program, downloaded it, and immediately started reading more data than I know what to do with! :) All sorts of temps including TFT, GPS data (even on my SE), all 4 tire pressures (to 0.1 PSI!) and tons of HVB, hybrid drive and electrical data. There are some very interesting values relating to battery charge/discharge in 4 modes of car operation - like cumulative discharge in Sleep mode. Might be some clues, or some kind of record, about 12V battery problems. Stay tuned. Its mind boggling how much data is flying around inside our carputers! What OBD port scanner device did you use with it? Is it Bluetooth or wifi? plus 3 golfer
Some other tranny related temps are below (with TFT=136F, OT=37F): 144F = Generator Coil Temperature (GCLTEMP)149F = Motor Coil Temperature (MCLTEMP)100F = Generator Inverter Phase Temperature (G_PHTMP)111F = Motor Inverter Phase Temperature (M_PHTMP) Don't know any codes or formulas for them, though. Again, this was after a couple of hours at about 55 mph with OT rising to 37F.The codes are here. http://i-fix.us/Torque-Pro-Settings-for-Ford-Fusion-and-C-MAX-Energi.php ptjones
SnowStorm
What OBD port scanner device did you use with it? Is it Bluetooth or wifi?I have this item (USB) bought a number of years ago. Would like to get a wireless one - will most likely go with wifi (just my preference as I know a lot more about the technical side). I had a problem with loss of communications twice while connected to the C-Max but no idea yet whether its was the software, computer, adapter or what. If you go with wifi and the free software I'm using, be sure to check this page about wifi setup. This page talks about adapters. plus 3 golfer
I have an ELM327 WIFI adapter that I ordered from Amazon nearly two years ago that looks like this one. I leave it plugged in most of the time. It works on my IPad with Dash Command and Engine Link and it works with ForScan on my windows laptop. Apparently an Android based version of ForScan is being developed. Since my new smartphone is Android based, I hope ForScan releases a Beta version soon. hybridbear
So here's the transmission data from this morning (OAT=Outside Air Temp, ECT=Engine Coolant Temp, TFT=Transmission Fluid Temp):OAT ECT TFT Speed 46 48 47 0 In Garage 10 144 63 0 4 miles from home 16 180 103 50 Another 18 miles at (mostly) 65 mph 18 135 110 64 Another 6 miles in EV (downhill!) 27 180 127 64 After about an hour at 65 mph 32 181 128 55 After about an hour at 55 mph 39 189 136 55 About another hour at 55 mphSo TFT slowly kept rising to 136F with outside temps going from 10F to 39F. Engine cooled off in EV mode but not transmission - makes sense. This is about what I see. Do you have your grille blocked? Some other tranny related temps are below (with TFT=136F, OT=37F): 144F = Generator Coil Temperature (GCLTEMP)149F = Motor Coil Temperature (MCLTEMP)100F = Generator Inverter Phase Temperature (G_PHTMP)111F = Motor Inverter Phase Temperature (M_PHTMP) Don't know any codes or formulas for them, though. Again, this was after a couple of hours at about 55 mph with OT rising to 37F.These temps are also very similar to what we observe after long stretches of freeway driving. PT - I think something isn't right with your car or with your XGauge code. Do you have access to a laptop that could run FORScan and a bluetooth or wifi scanner? Then you could verify the data with FORScan.

I guess someone else could try to put their hands on Trans Cooler lines, but It looks difficult without taking bottom cover off. If you had a IR temp gun you could point it at the lines from the top of ICE compartment. Thanks :) Paul
SnowStorm
This is about what I see. Do you have your grille blocked? No grille blocks. Here's a graph of about 80 minutes on "country roads" - occasional stops/turns but mostly 55 mph.Parameters are (top to bottom - approx.) Red = Engine coolant Magenta = Motor Coil Yellow = Generator Coil Green = Transmission Fluid Blue = Generator Phase Purple = Motor Phase White = Outside Air Edited March 1, 2015 by SnowStorm ptjones and C-MaxSea
ptjones
Nice work SnowStorm! Interesting that it looks like you never got up to operating temp of 202*F My guess is that you are losing 1-2 MPG by not having Grill Covers. WT doesn't fluctuate as much with Grill Covers on and Shutters don't open until 210*F at 50mph or less. Remember that any heat lost until the shutters open is wasted gas. It looks like your max TFT was 140-145*F. My FORD Dealer can't see my car until next Monday, interesting that they said they can work on the Trans even though they aren't a Electric Dealer. I would like to figure this out sooner ;) Paul

plus 3 golfer
The C-Max uses the ISO 15765 CAN protocol which I believe is mandatory starting a few years ago.
SStoner
Looks like ISO 15765-4 has two different bits and bauds that can be mixed.
SnowStorm
Paul, more driving this weekend. TFT went up to 163F with 65-70F ambient after driving for over an hour at 55 mph. (ECT was also up to 190-210F range.) Similar temps after another hour+ at 60-65 mph. When ambient dropped into the 40s, TFT stabilized at 145-150F range. Sure seems to be influenced by ambient temperature. ptjones
Marc Smith
Hey folks... just got done with a monster trip 12 hours one way to Orlando...started in Northern VA to orlando then Melbourne FL, then Orlando, then Naples, back to orlando and just got home today in Northern VA I was just running by myself. but I had 4 model boats, two golf bags, adult beverages, tools, table, chair, ez-up tent, clothes the car was full to the belt line both ways and in fact came back with more stuff than I left with... I could have carried a passenger but it would not have been comfortable. temps ranged from 30's to mid 80's 43 hours 7 minutes total drive time2466.4 miles39.6 mpg295 EV miles62.3 Gallons. thats an average speed of 57 mph. I set the eco cruise anywhere from 65-75 mph depending on conditions/traffic based on the gps indicated speed. no coasting/gliding, the occasional draft... but basically drove it like a normal ICE. there were a few around town(below 45) miles, but not many. Id venture to say maybe 200... for the duration of the trip I did log trans temp, coolant temp and ambient air temp, speed, rpm if anyone is interested I can email the files once I get them cleaned up I still can't get my pics deleted. I noticed with the ac OFF temps for the trans got up to around 180 and engine coolant around 208. butonce i put the AC on, both temps dropped, since the shutters were open... never saw any trans temps above 180. I'll clean up the data some. but if anyone wants the raw CSV files, shoot me an email mjs82 at georgetown dot edu and I'll send them should be 10K lines of data... hybridbear and ptjones

ptjones
Given recent Trans failure I can't recommend using Trans Heater Pad figuring it would only cause Trans to get warmer with decreased cooling area. I saw this with ICE heating pad . :) Paul
