mitrals Posted April 7, 2015 Report Share Posted April 7, 2015 So I have an uncle that has a dealership. I have always been intrigued by the CMAX Energi and saw how cheap they were used. So I bought a 2013 Energi with 70K miles that was a lease return sight unseen. I have been buying newer cars like this from the auction for 8 years so I know how the process works. Condition report at the auction shows that the car has no prior damage besides chips on the hood. Post sale inspection at the auction gave it a clean chit. Carfax shows all maintenance has been done on time at the dealership so I am hoping that would be ok. I have never sat or driven one. My last car was an 2006 Infiniti M35X. I don't expect this to be anything like my old car but should I expect a lot of problems. My wife drives 2013 Escape so I know the Microsoft woes. It will be delivered tomorrow. Is this something I need to worry about? My work commute is 10 miles each way so hoping to use EV for the most part. Once I am comfortable with the car I would consider it for road trips! Adrian_L Posted April 7, 2015 Report Share Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) Probably a good idea to check out the Energi forum since it is specific to your model. Say hi to my buddy Dr. Diesel from me. My understanding is that most of the battery woes are more common in the SE Hybrid model. The SEL (which all the Energi models are) seem less susceptible to problems. And besides---you're plugging in your car every night so that charges the High Voltage battery and (unless I'm mistaken) the 12 volt battery. It is the 12 volt and not the high voltage battery that causes the no-start problem after the car has been sitting overnight. As best we can determine from forum participants, very few have had 12v battery discharge problem, and most were SE owners. 70k is a lot so somebody got some good out of it - and you likely will too. I'd recommend getting a good quality (not a no-name one from Asia) BlueTooth or WiFi OBD scanner and the free FORScan program for Windows. This thread contains data that will help you assess the health & capacity of your HVB. You can also monitor 12V battery health using FORScan.
