Cowspotdog
I have a 2013 C-max that has been plagued with battery issues - it is in the service center right now being looked at for it's 7th dead battery. I am at the point where I considering trading it in and although I love this little car I really need something that is reliable and something I don't have to hold my breath waiting to see if it is going to tun on each morning. The question is are the 2014/15 any better - is the battery issue still a problem with them?
jestevens
Do you have an "SE" or an "SEL" ? I have a 2013 SEL with technology package and panoramic roof - I have never had a 12V battery issue. Most of the folks I know who report battery issues are on the "SE" .. Marc Smith
my 2013 sel (non tech package) 31K mile. not even a hint of a dead battery. ever. and thats with leaving my ipod plugged into the console 24/7 Knock wood... has been a great car. I'd easily consider another one.
Kelleytoons
2014 SE but with MFT here and no battery problems (but only after a year and 10K miles). It *does* appear that they have resolved a lot of them (and it also appears they were more prevalent on the 2013 SE without MFT).
Cowspotdog
yes - it is the SE model.
markd
2014 sel with 13,000 miles and not a single problem.
stevedebi
Makes me wonder if the SEL radio difference have something to do with this. And of course, 2013 was the first year. I'm sure they have been improving the systems all along.
Marc Smith
first year in the states... th ebody style was new in 2010 in europe... so one one had though that a lot of the little bugs had worked their way out of the system. but being it was the first year for the hybrid drive train there were bound to be some glitches... C-MaxSea
Sheez, almost forgot - BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY Grouper ! :congrats: Our C-Max (Grouper) was born Aug of 2012, and we have not spent a penny on it for maintenance, well OK I spent $2 on a couple screws after I lost one changing out the pano roof sun shade. Yes we are very low miles (14k+). It does help to have a 5 year maintenance plan tossed into the deal - one oil change a year to show for it (third one coming up in the next month or so). We have left our SEL unused for over four weeks with a thumb drive in the USB port, never any battery problems. :dancing: Sure hope you get yours fixed Cowspotdog, Meagan at FordService is ready to help you on your other thread. :skateboard:Nick Edited October 3, 2015 by C-MaxSea

wwwcheng
Purchased my 2013 SE on Aug 13. Now got 33,000 miles. Never have battery problem. Left car in garage for 2 weeks when went aboard. Left USB in 24X7. Just purchased an Energi 302A so I can use the carpool lane by myself. Got Engine warning light on the second week. Code P2183. Something to do with the coolant sensor or coolant host routing. Problem 1st reported in Nov 2013. Doesn't seem Ford had a permanent fix yet. Worrying what code to see next. Enjoying as the Energi is cheaper than my SE after all incentives. Wing
plus 3 golfer
If the code is intermittent, then the condition causing the fault may be difficult to pin down. Did the dealer change Sensor 2 in Nov. 2013, when the DTC was first found? P2183 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance Auxiliary Climate Control - System Operation and Component DescriptionSystem Operation Cabin Coolant Heater System The cabin coolant heater system provides warm coolant to the heater core to warm the passenger compartment whenever the DATC module request heat and the vehicle is in a driving mode, remoted started, or doing Cabin Drive-Conditioning.A SOBDMC controlled cabin coolant heater warms the coolant. The cabin heater coolant diverter valve allows two modes: Either an isolated coolant loop with cabin coolant heater, heater core, and cabin heater coolant pump or a combined loop of those components along with the engine and other coolant components. A cabin heater coolant temperature sensor (also known as ECT sensor 2) in the cabin heater system provides the PCM with coolant temperature information. Cabin Heater Coolant Temperature SensorThe PCM monitors the cabin heater coolant temperature sensor (also known as ECT sensor 2) and provides the PCM with coolant temperature information. fbov
Plus, isn't this Energi-specific? (I don't think I have a cabin coolant heater, and I know I can't drive-condition...) Frank
Adrian_L
May I make two gentle suggestions:1. Please no ENERGI-specific problems in the HYBRID forum. We love the Energi, but this is not the Energi forum. 2. "Are the Cmaxes any better?" As E.B. White wrote "Be obscure clearly". It is much appreciated when thread titles clearly indicate what the content/problem is.

Bill-N
May I make two gentle suggestions: 1. Please no ENERGI-specific problems in the HYBRID forum. We love the Energi, but this is not the Energi forum. I respectfully disagree becausethe two models have so much in commonthere are so few C-max's that the more information we have the betterIt may be very hard to determine if an issue is or isn't energi specific (e.g. transmission failure)If anything, I would vote for combining the two forums but with an energi-specific section. Cheers.
Adrian_L
Please re-read my comment. I was not referring to "common" features shared by both models. Obviously a transmission problem would be universal since both models have the same transmission. But since you mention it, I'm intrigued.....how could a discussion of plug-in recharging times or pure-electric driving range benefit a Hybrid owner? But since you mention it, I'm intrigued.....how could a discussion of plug-in recharging times or pure-electric driving range benefit a Hybrid owner? As I understand what he was requesting, that would be part of the "Energi-only" area of the forum. In some ways it makes sense, since the two cars are so similar; and with neither car being "popular", compared to say the gas-powered Fusion or Focus, it might improve responses on issues that are common to the Hybrid and Energi. wwwcheng
I see coolant in both of my hybrid and energi. I think coolant sensor and coolant host are common to both model. I apologize for my ignorance. Wing
stevedebi
I see coolant in both of my hybrid and energi. I think coolant sensor and coolant host are common to both model. I apologize for my ignorance. WingThey both have a coolant sensor and heat source for ICE driving, but the Energi has a separate one purely for EV Now mode, where the engine never comes on while the HVB has charge remaining. The Energi switches between the modes depending on the temperature of the engine coolant (which is obviously no hot at all when the ICE is not being engaged). Sorry for those who are in the hybrid reading this, but someone asked... Anyway, I find it useful to read this forum for the common issues, but I do try and remember not to post my Energi problems here. Not much response to those! I do appreciate all the hybrid owners putting up with the occasional post. Adrian_L
