FWIW, my transmission was changed at 32K miles of which about 20% was highway.

What was the symptom that got the dealer to say it needed to be replaced.  Was there a progression of louder regen ?

What year?  To me that is very low mileage to be having problems. I thought the lowest mileage CMAX's to have Trans problems was around 35K HWY miles. ;)

Paul

2013 built in March 2013.  It is not so bad that the dealer would replaced it, but I have noticed several loudness changes in the sound of the regen.  The first happened around the time of the big software update so I kind of that it was that.  And for the last month or two I have noticed that the regen is now louder than ever.  Like buying a budget car with little sound proofing.

I didn't see this CSP 14B07 on either the owner.ford.com or the ETIS sites for my VIN so I called the Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.  The representative was quite helpful and I learned that:

  1. Affected cars are C-Max hybrids built between Aug 8, 2012 and Jun 17, 2014.
  2. Letters are to be sent out "the week of Nov 16".  So, should get them soon.
  3. Asked if he had a more detailed description and he read a statement that started with reference to the "transfer shaft" (and other stuff I didn't get written down) but symptoms could be grinding sounds and a transmission light displayed in the instrument cluster.

Unfortunately I didn't think to ask if the CSP might extend past the original warranty period - sure hope so.

I haven't gotten my letter and that group should include my car. Has anyone gotten their letter?

Not only have I not received the letter but this recall does not show up on the Ford Owner site for my car. Since, per Etis, my car was manufactured on 2 June 2013, my car should clearly be included. I'd be interested in knowing what is going on with this recall.

Hi guys,

By law, Ford Motor Company is required to mail recall letters to the last known registered owner. However, due to privacy laws, state registration data is restricted and Ford Motor Company obtains current registration information from a third-party company each time a letter is generated. Prior to any future recall notifications, Ford will obtain new registration and title information and notify the identified vehicle owner on record.  I recommend that you contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles to ensure their registration records are up to date.

Also, for clarification, a Customer Satisfaction Program is not a recall. A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) is an available upgrade to a specific component or an extension of an existing warranty. Customer Satisfaction Programs are VIN-specific and typically have expiration dates and/or mileage limitations..

Recalls, on the other hand, are when Ford proactively identifies areas of concern (falling into: Safety, Compliance, and Emissions) through investigation of consumer and dealer feedback. Recalls do not expire; affected vehicles remain eligible until the repair is completed, and are also VIN-specific. During an investigation Ford co-operates fully with NHTSA. Due to our rigorous safety standards and constant testing, not all issues result in recall or customer satisfaction programs.

If you want to make sure you're involved or not, you can speak with your dealer, contact our Customer Relationship Center, or send me your VIN via PM.

Can anyone tell me if this 2013 Transmission issue is a recall item, or something that owners have simply had to pay for out of pocket?  I am currently shopping for low mileage C-Max's, and have looked at several 2013's.  Trying to figure out if I need to look at other years and avoid the 2013 models...

Its not a recall.  Owner has to pay if out of warranty (100k miles but higher in some states).  My 2013 failed long after warranty was up and I had my dealer install a salvaged one I found online - over $3k total (over $7k for new Ford tranny).  Later years can also be a problem - not sure how many but 2014s for sure.  Aside from some problems, I still love driving the car and saving money on gas.
