As noted in the article, the C-Max did not offer all-wheel drive as the Escape had, and the RAV4 does as well. Automakers found a real golden-egg-laying goose in the that red herring. With gas staying relatively "low", the higher fuel consumption takes a back seat to the advantages of an SUV:Higher seating position More ground clearance Towing capability (1750 pounds for the RAV4)Lack of AWD can't be the whole story - half the Escape buyers went with 2WD. After paying $30k for a car, most folks won't worry about the extra $20 per month for fuel (RAV4 over Prius V per EPA numbers). zalusky Posted November 20, 2017 Report Share Posted November 20, 2017 All this makes me wonder a lot about how Ford will respond with upcoming Model E variations. Will they have something in the Escape class. IE a little more room and storage. Personally I am still pretty happy with the CMAX.
