nsteblay
My keyless entry is somewhat flaky on the car. Sometimes, when the car is unlocked, it won't lock when I touch the door handle. At other times, even though the doors are locked, touching the door handle locks again instead of unlocking. Sometimes it works fine. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when things work or when the don't. Anyone experiencing similar problems?
Laurel
No problems--touch the black pad to lock and inside the door handle to unlock. I usually take my dog with me and tend to use the fob to lock as I feel assured to double click and hear the horn toot--I'm paranoid that she will stolen if I forget to lock it. I'm bad about touching the door handle after I lock it to check and of course it promptly unlocks when touched. But my husband never uses the fob and has not had any troubles. FoutsNC
I haven't had any issues at all. I have found that it will not lock even if a door is slightly ajar. It also doesn't seem to lock when the liftgate is open. Other than that, I haven't had any issues. With your issue, can you lock the door with the fob button when you are unable to lock with the handle? If so, there might really be something wrong. I have found that rain can cause it to act a little weird sometimes, but that also happened on my BMW and Explorer before.
erwhitham
With my Prius the car's keyless entry unlocked the car whenever I grabbed the handle and locked similarity. It took me a couple weeks to realize that touching the black circle is the only way to lock the C Max with the keyless entry. If I used my entire hand, I never heard that click. Neither car will lock with the fob left inside.
Fits2at
Inwas going to say I was experiencing the same thing but I think I just realized what I was doing. When trying to unlock I was grabbing handle and touching black pad. I was probably confusing the car. Will pay more attention.
shaners
Ours quit working altogether a few days ago. You now have to take the key out of your pocket and push the button on the fob to lock or unlock the doors. It is going to the dealer on Thursday to have this problem looked at along with several other "gremlins" that have appeared in the last 10 days or so. I am wondering if my BCM is going bad, because 2 days ago when I was going to the store I pushed the power off button for the radio. It continued to play and nothing I could do would shut it off. When I got to the store I pushed the button to shut the car down and it "thanked" me for driving a hybrid and the radio continued to play... I opened the door, got out and shut it and the radio still continued to play! I had to re-enter and exit the car before it finally shut off. Regarding the radio "staying on": Did you by chance first turn the car off while the radio was still playing, and then prior to opening the door you pushed the hard power off button (not the software one on the screen, but the hardware one near the INPUT bar)? If you did it in that exact sequence, you are actually turning the MFT screen back ON instead of turning the radio OFF (when the car is shut down and the MFT screen is on and you open the door, the MFT (and thus the radio) will go off, so by hitting the "hard" button after the car is off, you are telling the MFT to come back on). Put differently, if you are driving down the road and push the "hard" power button, it toggles the radio on and off, as you would expect. But, if the car is shut off, and you push the "hard" power button, you toggle the MFT system on (and if the radio was already on, it will be on again when the screen turns back on). In other words, the button behaves differently depending on whether the car is on or off. Sorry, can't help you with the remotes not working, unless you have it near your cell phone in your pocket, and then the cell phone will interfere with the remote's radio frequency. JohnTrigger
Reference my post immediately above, today I couldn't even duplicate my own results, that I was able to duplicate last week. So maybe it is FLAKEY and having Gremlins. But the post above does seem a little repeatable if I use the passenger door in the scenario above. None of it is explained in the manual, all by trial and error....
shaners
John, I have no idea what was going on in my car. All I know is no matter how many times I pushed the the "hard" power button it would not respond and the radio continued to play. I truelly believe the delears response will be "could not duplicate"
Bob999
There is another thread that says "flakey" behavior can be caused by an undercharged or failing 12v battery which powers essentially all of the accessories.
shaners
Ours is acting up again. I took it to the dealer and Walla! It wouldn't work for him either! Both times it has been to the dealer the service manager (who is very nice) couldn't duplicate the problem and would take my wife out and "show her" how to get in the car. This kinda pissed my wife off who is a successful business woman and no dummy! Today while he was trying to get in I gave him both keys to be sure it wasn't just a bad key. Sometimes it wouldn't unlock the drivers door but the back door would unlock. Other times it would let you in on the second pull of the handle or not let you in at all. It was the same scenerio for all 4 doors. Finally the situation has been duplicated at the dealer and at least he thinks my wife isn't crazy anymore! He is going to contact Ford to try and help diagnose this Gremlin. Also today I could not turn off the radio again and the presets disapeared and the street name is gone under the compass again. All is now "documented".
nsteblay
Didn't realize the the black pad for for locking and touching the back of the handle was for unlocking. I've been doing both at the same time. Looks like that was my problem. The key fob has always worked. Lovin' the car.
