You will probably do better by feathering but it is too much concentration and effort for me to do everyday that early in the morning hehe. It gets the job done. I can pulse ip if I need to and turn cruise off if I need to coast. It has to go hand in hand with looking ahead and timing lights/traffic

I can't figure out how to embed the video, but I'm doing something similar in the video below. The only difference is I use eco cruise rather than feathering the throttle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-DeoP7__DQ

I do the exact same thing, it's just too much work to me to try and feather the throttle. My C-Max still gets very good mileage for my commute to work.

I've never driven a Prius but reading from people's experiences online the C-Max benefits from using different techniques. For highway most members here have found charging up the battery as high as possible then using eco-cruise at 65 or slightly higher yields 40s or high 30s MPG depending on terrain and weather conditions. For speeds lower than 50MPH (city driving), maximizing battery use seems to yield the best MPG. I've attached a link to the technique I've been using that isn't too tedious for low speed city driving. With current weather conditions above 60F I've been averaging +50MPG in city driving. http://www.flickr.com/photos/raepix/9111705060/ The highway mileage is probably the most disappointing thing about the C-Max but even then it still gets decent mileage with the proper technique. Unfortunately, the EPA test do not reflect highway driving and they weren't meant to reflect real world usage with the low average speed in their specified highway tests.

Most likely, this update will have a greater impact on winter driving. After reviewing my fuelly data, all my winter driving is under 40MPG while pretty much everything after winter is above 40MPG.

You can get into the negative split mode even when you are within the 62mph ev treshold. The only problem is that it is very tedious. Hopefully the eco cruise programming will automatically handle that at +65mph speed and maintain high ice. I don't think cycling between ev and ice at high speed similar to the management at lower speed city driving will really help much if at all.
-
You could still do high ice mode, it'll just he really tedious like when using it at speeds between 50 and 62 mph. You'd have to feather the throttle to keep the electric motor from kicking in. It gets old fast, I like being able to just hit eco cruise. But maybe the programming changes will reduce charging at high speed and hold ice unless you are going through an incline.

This news makes the drivetrain upgrades coupled with 3.5.1 more plausible although I didn't notice any improvements on my mileage this weekend. I think the car is behaving differently. It seemed harder for me to enter high ice mode but it seemed to maintain higher mpg even with lower battery levels.

I just got 3.5.1 installed today after 3 trips and 8 hours wasted at one dealer. Decided to take it to another dealer and they took longer than expected but got it installed correctly. I'm not liking the new larger buttons on the Nav screen and that the Nav prompt mute is now hidden in the menus.

I finally got MFT 3.5.1 installed on my C-Max today and was surprised to see the powertrain control module as one of the items included inthe update. It might just be to allow MFT to display the charging discharge screen but maybe there were some tweaks included. I'll definetely be keeping a closer eye on my MPG on my weekly drive to Toronto this weekend.

The two small interior lights in the cargo area do not time out. I found this out when I used my C-Max for a drive in movie theater and they stayed on the entire time through 2 movies. I don't know if you can ever turn them off with the liftgate open which sucks for using the rear for drive ins.

Navigation tips anyone? (3.5.1)

Like others have stated, you have to pronounce each digit for house numbers. Also if you speak just the street name and city, sync will respond cannot find address or something like that then ask for the house number. You can also omit the E, W, N, S designation of a street and when you finish speaking the address sync will prompt a list with options that match the address you spoke. -
Very cool, what's that grill blocker made of?

Don't remember if it has been stated here already but the bulk of the hits to Ford was voice recognition issues, bluetooth pairing, and navigation. That pretty much all covers MTF, has anybody found a detailed break down of the issues? I only found that short snippet through a quick google search.

Finally got my second 600 tank! (80 % highway on 401 from Detroit to Toronto/ 20% city driving in Toronto)

I can't figure out how to embed a video into the post so I just attached a link. To a short video of what I was talking about. http://www.flickr.com/photos/raepix/9111705060/

Have you tried using EV to start up to 10mph then speeding up to desired speed using 2 bars (empower screen) on ICE then hitting cruise control to maintain speed? That and slowing/slightly increasing speed to time traffic lights made the biggest difference for me on my city driving mpg.

What kind of cell phone do you have?
RaPieR replied to Adair's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Samsung Galaxy S3 with T-Mobile Haven't had any issues with pairing the phone, bluetooth streaming, and voice command calling. The text notification and ability to read new text messages is intermittent. Sometimes MFT recognizes a new text and gives the option to read aloud but other times it doesn't prompt new texts. I'm still on Sync 3.1.3 -
I heard this same exact noise outside when the AC is turned on. It seemed so much louder because ICE was not running. It is not audible inside the car with the windows rolled up. I have had no problems with the AC cooling down the car.

Sightseeing in Chicago and saw a couple of C-Maxes on taxi duty.

Had this happen to me for the first time today at a Petro Canada in Toronto. I had to reset the pump four times. I tried wiggling the pump several times to make sure it was fully inserted but it kept happening until I finally finished the fill-up.
