  1. Thanks for the pictures! I wonder how those are attached and if they can be easily retro fitted to 2013 models. Overall with the aero changes that are visible, I doubt they'll help much if at all for high speed driving. If there are any improvements it will probably come from the transmission changes.
  2. Good eye, I didn't notice that it was an Energi. Realistically though, adding the minor aero features as a refresh for both 2014 Energi and hybrid would make sense it would make production easier. They wouldn't have to worry about only putting this part on an Energi or another part on a hybrid, on a body that is probably exactly the same on the outside. Plus, it would reduce the amount of parts they need to stock if they are using the same parts for both models.
  3. If those are just installed with some industrial adhesive, why wouldn't they make them available from the dealer parts department? I would pick them up if they help keep the rear windshield clean and help with mileage.
  4. Thanks for the updates and pictures! I definitely saw changes in the underbody ahead of the front and rear tires. My C-Max only has plastic "flaps" to deflect air but that C-Max I saw looked like it had pod shaped deflectors.
  5. Some of the comments to the article are funny. Every modern car is capable of this and this has been going on for quite a while from probably every manufacturer.
  6. Yes, I am sure it was a C-Max. It was an ice storm color driving between two prototype Transit vehicles. Yes, that black plastic piece is not present on the current C-Max (it's not on mine) but that prototype had this aero piece on the rear windshield and two pieces ahead of the front and rear wheels.
  7. Welcome! I just drove through Tennessee a few days ago and drove through Memphis. Unfortunately, didn't see any other C-Maxes out on the road in that state. Glad to know there is at least 1 there now :yahoo:
  8. No, I wish the weather was like that right now but we've been in the negatives for the past 3 days. I just pulled that picture from the internet to show the part that has been added to the 2014 C-Max rear windshield compared to the 2013 C-Max.
  9. Your trip mileage sounds very similar to what I was seeing driving down to Texas.
  10. Just saw a 2014 C-Max Hybrid prototype that was marked "PP" testing on the road on my way home from work. It looks like it has new aero feature on the rear windshield similar to the Escape. I wonder if those could be easily added to the 2013 C-Max. Also saw that it had an aero feature ahead of the front and rear tires. Didn't see anything drastic on the car that would radically improve the aerodynamics of the C-Max. So I don't think there will be any big gains in mileage for the 2014 C-Max from aerodynamic changes. If there is any improvements, it'll probably be from the transmission upgrades
  11. Actually I have around 42,000 miles on the C-Max so I doubt there is difference regarding to break-in period for the engine. When I mentioned overall, I was referring to the average mpg for a specific trip etc. I was confused by what you wrote and though that you were only referring to instant mpg when the engine came on. Maybe my C-Max was one of the first production models with first revision transmission or maybe something isn't working properly an aero-feature like grill shutters maybe but on the highway mileage drops off pretty quickly from 60MPH as I increase speed. I've driven the C-Max at a whole range of elavations and temperatures, I don't think I've driven at an extreme enough elevation so I've only seen the big hit caused by temperature. I also usually drive the C-Max that is probably loaded with max 250lbs total so I don't think overloading is causing the mileage I'm seeing. Of course, this is for no hypermiling techniques. Just driving on the highway with eco-cruise set to a target speed and no drafting/following other cars or semi-trucks. When I did follow semi-trucks then I could easily hit 45-47mpg at 65-70MPH depending on the elevation changes.
  12. I wish my C-Max was that conservative when it comes to consumption vs speed. Mine is more like 80MPH = 29MPG, 75MPH = 35MPG, 70MPH = 38MPH, 65MPH = 42MPG
  13. Are you saying the ICE is more efficient at that range by having slightly higher instant MPG at 73-75MPH speed? Not the overall mileage of the C-Max? I just completed a 3000+ mile trip from Michigan to Texas. In one 400 mile leg I set eco-cruise to 80MPH and only managed 29MPG. Granted this was with a heavy head wind. I also didn't average higher than 38MPG for a single tank in mixed driving with sections of 65MPH and 80MPH.
  14. Just drove from Detriot, MI to McAllen, Tx. +1600 miles total. Surprisingly averaged 38MPG doing 70-80MPH in Texas highways but at warmer temperatures. Driving through the cold and rain in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee were a lot lower. 32.7, 34.4, 34.6MPG through those states. Disappointing but still better mileage and more comfortable than what my Speed would have done during the trip.
  15. That's pretty strange and must be a specific issue on a few units. I've never had any problems with the GPS in large cities. Use the GPS in Toronto all the time and just recently I used it in Chicago and New York without any problems. It did a good job of estimating position and recalculating when I entered and exited tunnels. Maybe there is a component malfunction? Hopefully they resolve your issues soon!
  16. I doubt there will be a big change with regards to the mpg numbers. Without changing the sheet metal of the C-Max, there is only so much Ford can tweak. The biggest factor for an increase if any will probably be the transmission revisions that was mentioned in previous news releases.
  17. There has been a difference for me with regards to city and highway driving. The computer tends to over estimate consumption or be closer to the actual in city driving while it tends to under estimate consumption when driving highway. I have a few I've pulled from Fuelly below: Actual Gallons Used - 9.43, Computer Calculated - 8.41 (100% Highway) Actual Gallons Used - 8.86, Computer Calculated - 7.98 (95% Highway) Actual Gallons Used - 11.50, Computer Calculated - 11.07 (95% Highway) Actual Gallons Used - 3.97, Computer Calculated - 3.82 (0% Highway) Actual Gallons Used - 2.05, Computer Calculated - 2.43 (0% Highway) Actual Gallons Used - 3.83, Computer Calculated - 3.48 (0% Highway) I've been trying to note all the details in all my fuel ups. My highway driving tends to be 62 to 70 MPH set on eco-cruise.
  18. I've used the outlet to power my 2012 Macbook Pro on long road trips. In fact I just used it for the 11 hour drive to New York so my wife can watch movies on the drive and I can listen in.
  19. Wow, that's strange. Thanks for the info, this is the 2nd year I've replaced my summer tires with winter tires that have a different set of TPMS sensors and I haven't had any issues. It usually detects the new tires after a couple of miles of driving without needing any programming or extra steps.
  20. Welcome! You'll find plenty of help regarding the C-Max on these forums. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here if you ever become interested in trying to get the most mileage out of your C-Max.
  21. I don't know if many people are updating the fueleconomy.gov website. Also there are some numbers that are hard to believe, 29mpg overall for example for a driving mix of over 60% city.
  22. Only problem I've had with the USB when I kept updating changing songs on the USB and the indexing feature seemed to mess up. Went away as soon as I cleared the USB and reloaded the songs back on it.
  23. Has the change already been made by refiners to go to winter blend?
