  1. There's still some room for variation, as different pumps will shut off at different fill levels. If you go to the same station and use the same pump twice in a row, though, it should be true.
  2. I've wanted to get something like this: http://www.plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=GSSTWIFI so I can try to map more detailed information about the car's fuel economy under different scenarios…
  3. And at that, "in the car" is listed as "Coming 2014" Also, Ford was about the only car manufacturer that didn't sign on to add a button marked "Siri" that would only work with iPhones - maybe Apple won't let in Ford unless they play ball on the Siri button thing.
  4. Just a random thought... There are many sources of RF interference out there. I just happened upon an article describing something I've heard of happening many times: Military radio systems interfering with nearby civilian garage door openers. It made me wonder, how many other sources of RF interference are there? Perhaps running on the same frequency as your particular C-Max's remote or keyless entry? Maybe not enough to interfere with its functioning, but perhaps enough to keep the computer awake processing the signal. I wonder how much power that would draw if that were the case?
  5. I got TSB 13-5-1 done. Parked it Saturday evening after a long highway drive. Sunday morning when I checked the battery, it had a much better voltage of 12.5v. I had a short EV-only jaunt, and no more driving until Monday morning, when I measured 12.2v. So it's an improvement, but I suspect it's just charging the battery a little more to mask the continuous battery drains. And my battery may already be damaged from the discharges into the sub-12-volt ranges. Who knows where it'll go from here…
  6. Ok, so I've got a model with navigation. Looks like it's a 16GB card, with what was it, 14GB of data on it. Suppose I get a 32GB card, clone the NAV card on it, and fill the rest with my music. Has anyone else tried this to see if it works? If it causes any problems? If no one tells me it won't, I think I'm game to try. If nothing else, I'll then have a bigger SD card for my camera (currently using a 4GB, which isn't bad but when shooting raw it can fill up surprisingly fast!)
  7. And I've got way too much many back-episodes of RadioLab, This American Life, and Selected Shorts to care about my drive length.
  8. In every regulation there's a tradeoff between complexity and rationality. A perfect law would charge each person exactly based on how much they contribute to the maintenance and expansion of the highway system. But to do so would be impossibly difficult to measure. And while it's true that particular hybrid doesn't get Prius-like milage, it does very much decrease fuel used compared to vehicles of the same weight/power class - which gets back to the point of "these vehicles are not contributing their fair share towards maintaining public infrastructure".
  9. I looked up on a map where it came on - it was just about exactly 0.25 miles as the crow flies from my driveway.
  10. Well, diesel fuel is assessed about 5 cents per gallon more in federal fuel taxes... I think the main reason is that there just aren't that many diesel passenger cars sold in the US. It's a niche market, and as long as that's true, it won't affect the ability of states to maintain roads enough that they would need to be treated any differently.
  11. The cost to build and maintain roads doesn't decrease just because people use less gas.
  12. If that were the case, fast pump pressure would ensure sediment doesn't build up in the first place.
  13. I have the feature on the Hybrid, although I haven't used it yet.
  14. Your picture gave me the idea, I wonder if it was left loose to make it possible to insert parking passes, placards underneath it
  15. I assumed it was a Ford-insider reference to the Jelly Bean taurus.
  16. Given the loyalty numbers, to an extent they are.
  17. I looked up the article cited in the federal register, and I believe that report misunderstands the published rules: Federal Register: Fuel Economy Labeling of Motor Vehicles: Revisions To Improve Calculation of Fuel Economy Estimates Let's take this quote (pg. 77882, 2nd column, last paragraph): Since there is only one other vehicle in the Ford fleet with the same fuel economies as the C-Max Hybrid (the Fusion Hybrid), the only way I can construe this to mean that the mpg-based method could apply to the C-Max's fuel economy is if on the old Highway (HFET), old City test (FTP), or both, the C-Max scored the same as the Fusion, and based on that the Fusion's fuel economy was applied to the C-Max. Perhaps that is possible - the Fuelly.com average for the Fusion Hybrid is 2MPG higher than the C-Max Hybrid. But it still renders bunk the concept that the fuel economy just 2-cycle test * adjustment factor.
  18. That article from Car And Driver has been thoroughly debunked. The "MPG-based approach" they refer to was only allowed on models that were sold in the 2007 model year and tested under the EPA tests in effect at that time, that would otherwise not have required to be re-tested in 2008. In other words, they weren't going to force every manufacturer to re-test cars they were already selling. Those are the only vehicles that were allowed to apply a correction factor. That does not apply to the C-Max or Fusion, and thus the 2-test * correction factor method would not have been permitted.
  19. Many argue that the differences between the EPA test and real-world driving help hybrids a lot more than they help conventional vehicles. I think that is especially true on the highway test, which is more like "highway-oriented commute" (where one rarely drives full speed and still must stop periodically). And at that, the C-Max's ability to run in EV-only mode up to 62MPG gives it an advantage over other hybrids on the test. Detailed Test Information
  20. Virginia's political climate is not particularly favorable to environmentally friendly causes, and are probably proposing this as an "anti-green" measure.
  21. I've had luck using tens-of-numbers addresses - e.g. "Fourty five sixty five Main Street".
  22. Which raises a question: How much noise SHOULD it make? Do we only notice it on the C-Max because there's no engine noise to mask it?
