(I just approved this post, so I feel like I have the right to post regarding it. As a moderator I feel my duty to be impartial. At the same time I'd like to post a comment). Notes on driving in Japan 2 1/2 years ago: Most roads were only two lanes in the one direction. When not busy, everyone stayed in the (left/slow lane, RH traffic). This left the one lane wide open. If you were faster all you needed to do was change lanes to the "fast lane" and pass by. There were posted speed limits and a lot seemed to oblige. But I never once saw a police nor any police pulling someone over. Didn't see an accident the 4 days that I drove there. Boy did that help on the last day when we were in a hurry to the airport for our flight, the airport on the far side of Tokyo from where we were staying. (I only had to get our Toyota Roomy rental out of the way of a BMW 3 series)... So to comment I appreciate it when people do stay out of the "fast lane" if they aren't driving fast. (Say thanks to your friends for me. ? But in all fairness you did say you make a conscious effort to change over to a slower lane if you can, which I think is fair enough)....

I always felt the main design issue is the air cooling system. It just can't handle heat the same way a liquid (coolant) cooling system can. We "upgraded" (quotes because My Ford Touch is super in comparison) to an '18 Honda Clarity. At 50k mi I notice 0 degradation in amount of kWh electricity it fills with....

Are you planning on replacing the 12 V?

Here is a list of current CARB states. I think some of them are new meaning they adopted the rules after 2013 and hence the stricter rules may not apply. I would first find out where, (and when), the car was originally sold and see if it was in one of these states. California, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Washington D.C.

Well technically it isn't really called a "CARB car" but it is a car originally sold in CA or several other states who's government decided to follow California Air Resources Board rules, which govern all vehicles sold in CA. Here are updated rules as of 2018. There should be a warranty section in your owners materials which gives detailed coverage. https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/fact-sheets/california-vehicle-and-emissions-warranty-periods I do not know all the states that have adopted CARB rules but I will look into it right now.

How many miles on her? Hybrid or Plug-in? It's annoying that you were told piecemeal of these costly replacement items, BECM and then hybrid battery. Do you know if this is a CARB car, which comes with a longer warranty?

Wow! Thank you for making the effort to post the video. I almost get the feeling that the motor is somehow overheating then stopping... Crossing my fingers on your dealer visit if someone else doesn't have a potential answer.

Can you take a video of the wiper action and post it to YouTube or something? Maybe watching it can give us some clue.

I Googled the 2013 Ford C-MAX ENERGI owner's manual and opened it. The specification listed there is WSS-M97B44-D2 and as kindly shared by @homestead it is a compatible replacement.

I agree I ended up buying the proper spec coolant as listed in the Owner's Manual. (I also bought mine from a local dealer, although there may be several aftermarket options that list the spec). About filling yes it is safer to let the car cool down overnight and then fill it to the correct level in the morning.

Hmmm. As far as snow tires I believe it is best to use on all 4. If I had absolutely no choice but to buy only 2 I would follow what Ford says to put the chains on in the owners' manual. The convention I always remember is to put traction devices, ie. snow chains, on the drive wheels. Sounds like sticking brake caliper(s). You probably need someone to pull off the wheels and check the inner brake pads for unusual/significant wear.

Not sure what's going on exactly but the forum is crashing. Let's hope we're not near the end. I contacted green tec auto about a battery for the ENERGI models and they do have offerings as of two days ago (date on email response). These are installed prices at one of their 20 locations across the continental US:. $4850 36 month warranty $4150 18 month warranty. They also appear to have Hybrid battery options on their website for the Fusion (and extemely likely the CMAX as well).

Our '18 Clarity PHEV has a charging mode you press and hold a hybrid mode button for a while and it starts the ICE to charge the battery. Recommended use is on a long flat highway/freeway where constant speed is driven.

@kepler2 Sorry for the late response! I do believe CA and other CARB states follow the longer warranty requirements. If your car was initially sold in a CARB state may determine whether it falls under the 8 yr vs 10 yr rule. I'll be back after I look for some replacement battery sources....

Sorry for the delay in approving this message! How about the other wiper positions? For example constant speed? How about rapid speed? Does it exhibit the same stopping? If not I actually suspect the stock. Hopefully someone else can chime in if I'm mistaken...

Sorry for the delay in approving your post! There are jump starting posts under the hood I believe. If you try to connect a battery/jumper cables there maybe you can verify if the car will turn on, and hopefully open the trunk to inspect what is going on with the 12 V.

First use date is considered start of warranty. It's highly likely that it wasn't also first used until later when sold. It wouldn't hurt to ask a dealer to check your VIN regarding possible remaining warranty.

I still miss the Energi compared to our current Clarity PHEV, although I got a whopping 63 or 64 mi of pure EV range on the Clarity yesterday and the day before. (The longer range and bigger trunk being basically the two positives the Clarity has over the C-MAX Energi). The noise that developed from what I guessed the tranny eventually caused my wife to trade her in. Is that lifetime warranty a Ford offering, local dealer offering, or some other third party? (Thank you for sharing that option)! @fotomoto, if you remember our Energi moderator, I see here and the PriusChat forum...
