  1. It seems that this happens if you don't "clear the pipes", as fotomoto said above, from time to time.  My wife has a very light foot and I have never witnessed her "punch" it.  If I haven't driven her car for about 6 months or so, I will get the "cloud" as soon as I punch it.  This has happened with every car that she has owned.  I think it's just the deposits that build up over time.  I suppose that I can say that I am heavy on the gas to make sure the pipes stay clear now :)

  2. Another thing that I have found that seems to make a large difference is setting the Recirculate to On.  If you are pulling air from outside, it can keep the compressor running on high even if it's fairly cool in the car.  I used to always keep the recirc off so that fresh air would come in.  I noticed a HUGE MPG difference when doing that.  Then I used the Energy guage to show the Climate usage and noticed a hugh drop in load just by switching it to recirculate.  It seems to default to recirculate when the AC is on, yet if you are turning that off, make sure you are aware of the load when doing so.

  3. I was thinking that your response would be similar to what you have reported.  It is quite loud when running at a higher pace on hot days.  It's noticably louder than gas powered vehicles.  This weekend I left it on while I ran into a grocery store.  I was parked about 6-7 spaces back.  There was plenty of traffic noise and other cars running around the lot and I could hear my A/C as soon as I came out of the store's doors over the other weekend noises.  I have noticed that if I leave the AC at a lower setting (3 bars for the fan) and leave recirc on, it will usually go away.  I have been playing with the settings a bit lately to see if I can decrease the load, noise, and hopefully increase MPG again.  At this point, I think we will just have to deal with it.  I do think that Ford should take note though.  I have plenty of Prius' in my area and I have not noticed the same issues with them.  And I have been paying attention for the last several days too :)

  4. My KW meter on the MyView of the dash is usually hovering around the second bar for the climate portion.  When it's warm, it almost maxes out on that meter.  I usually keep the temp around 73.  Temps have been in the mid-90s, yet the norm has been mid-80s.  My MPG seems to really be dropping as it gets warmer though :(

  5. I've recorded mine. My wife turns the A/C off at 0:09 and back on at 0:11. Can you confirm it's the same sound?

I'm gathering info before going to the dealer and have them tell me it's "normal".

I'm also interested if anyone manages to get service to fix this.

This is much quieter than mine.  Mine does that noise, yet when the AC is running there is also a higher pitched whine.  It's quite loud and sounds like a swarm of cicadas.  It's louder than most cars nearby and seems to turn heads in wonder.  After seeing this video, I am thinking about taking mine in.  I do want to hear what TxTom's outcome is first though.

  6. When I am running the AC on a warm day, the compressor gets quite loud.  I am assuming that this is how it is supposed to sounds when running with a decent load.  If others are not having this noise, please let me know.  I have noticed that it puts quite a load on the battery and has surely caused my milage to drop lower than winter norms.  I am averaging around 34MPG with the AC running.

  7. It happened to me 2 days ago.  Just before that happened, I saw a Windows 95 like warning box come up with an error message.  It was only there for a moment and then the screen went blank.  When it came back on, it said that Sync was updating with the progress bar that you are talking about.  I hope this isn't an ongoing issue with 3.5.1.  I am hoping that Ford didn't replace a reset screen with an updating screen to make people think that something good is happening while the system is restarting from a crash.

  8. Don;t have much problem with road rage incidents, might be the bumper sticker that mentions CCW

You beat me to it.  Stickers that provide some notice seem to help.  The CCW itself has caused me to curb my rage as well.  It's kind of the oppisite of what many seem to think nowadays, because I know things could get ugly really fast.

  9. It does have some type of storage device though.  Not sure if it's a flash or HDD, but it does have one.  If you have Sirius/XM going, press the red audio corner and you will see a Replay option.  If you select that option, it will allow you to rewind the programming that you have been listening to.  It seems to go back around an hour.  It does not work for FM though.

As for storing your own music and such though, there's no option that I am aware of.

  10. I called my service advisor this afternoon and he knew exactly what I was talking about. I have an appointment for tomorrow at 8AM.  He said that they have done a few already and it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. If your service people are saying otherwise, I would ask them to run your VIN for updates.  They should be seeing the same thing that we are through their site.  If they still don't know, I would probably call another dealer until I found someone that knew what they were doing.

    Good luck :)

  11. Strange the paint on my rear bumper and adjacent panels match the rest of the car perfectly.  The one with the Ford logo?  Directly above the license plate matches perfectly as well. Attached is a picture of my CMAX the day it arrived at my dealer

Thanks.  I think the pics shared here will help to make my case.  It will be interesting to see what I find.  I hope it was just a mis-match at the factory and not an accident.

  12. Thank you for that pic and information.  I was a little concerned about that as well.  I really hadn't paid much attention to it in the beginning.  As the days are sunnier, you can really start to see a difference.  I will roll up under the bumper to see if I can see anything and I will drop by a body shop.  I hate to think they would have done something like that.  If they did, I am really the wrong person.  I love to stand up for what's right and I just happen to be good friends with the owner of a chain of regional body shops ;)

  13. I am in Apex, NC (Suburb of Raleigh).  Since there are a few Platinum White owners here, I have a couple of questions.  I have noticed that the piece above the license plate on my car is painted white and not Platinum White.  I also have a fairly noticable mis-match between my rear bumber color and surrounding colors.  I was going to take it into Ford to check it out when the 3.5.1 update comes out.  I was just wondering if others are having any issues like this.  The color was an upgrade, and I don't think mis-matched panels and pieces of a different color should be expected.

  14. My test car for the past week was a C-Max SEL with most of the options. As such, it was a well-equipped upper-middle class car with good interior space in a relatively small exterior package. That, plus good economy and a driving experience much better than expected from a hybrid make it an attractive vehicle for anyone needing space and interior versatility while wanting to spend as little as possible on fuel.

CONCLUSIONS: The Ford C-Max combines space, style, and fuel efficiency with a small footprint.

  15. I think this was covered in a prior post somewhere.  It seems to be a known issue. The way to get them back is to press the lower left red area to bring up the audio settings.  Then press FM1 and wait for the FM stations to appear, and then hit Sirius again.  This happens to be quite a bit.  I have high hopes that 3.5.1 will correct this.  My wife's Escape had this issue a few times before 3.5.1, yet it seems to be good now.

Hope this helps next time :)

  16. I drive mine like a normal car about 90% of the time.  When I am creeping through a parking lot, I might pay more attention to the EV to keep it from engaging.  I did the different techniques to try and get better MPG for a bit, but I found that the savings weren't worth the hassle to me.  I am also not the lightest foot around and I like my HVAC system.  When I purchased the car, I knew that I would not get the EPA numbers.  I have never gotten EPA numbers on any of my cars.  I said to myself back then that I would be happy with 38MPG because that would be double my last vehicle (2011 Explorer).  Needless to say, I am thrilled with the numbers that I am getting now.  I am over the mark I wanted to be.  With the temps coming up now, I am frequently seeing 50+ MPG trips :)

  17. It was 17.5 cents per gallon.  It looks like they are trying a new strategy to pay for the infrastructure in VA.  They are eliminating the 17.5 cent retail tax and adding a 3.5 cent wholesale tax.  The "Hyrbid Tax" was first proposed at $100 per vehicle, yet it's changed a couple of times since.  It is now sitting at $64 per vehicle.  It seems like the additional fee was an attempt to cover taxes that they aren't able to collect on high effeciency vehicles.  I think the initial target was mainly fully electric vehicles.  If you read the bill, it seems that they expanded that.  I think the first attempt was to tax non-gasoline powered cars for the full $100, then someone added the hybrids.  An understandable outcry occured and they have reduced it to $64.  The debates are still ongoing and I foresee some further changes.  They are estimating that Hybrid vehicle drivers are paying approximately $45 per year less than non-hybrid drivers in VA.  The additional $19 seems to be an attempt to cover the portion that they believe will be saved by fully electric car drivers in future years.

There are still some major debates ongoing with this and I think there will be changes still.  I think the $64 is a bit high and they should raise that money in another manner.  On a good note, the price per gallon should go down and the vehicle sales tax is going down a little as well.  As an out of state driver that goes to and through VA quite a bit, I will be happy to pay less per gallon in VA instead of in NC :D

In NC, the last Gov tried to add all kinds of taxes and fees on our transportation system to make up for more effecient vehicles.  She was trying to add a mileage tax and several others.  Thankfully, most of them didn't get pushed through.  We already pay quite a bit in taxes in comparison to other states for our vehicles.  Instead of a sales tax, we get to pay every year.

As vehicles become more and more efficient, the Government will find a way to make their money!
