  1. They're not nicknamed "Fool Cells" just for fun. Look at this article about fuel cell/EV charging station grants: http://insideevs.com/california-approves-46-6-million-funding-hydrogen-fueling-stations-2-8-million-ev-charging-stations/ $46.6 million for 27 hydrogen fueling stations....compared to $2.8 million for 175 EV charging stations. 'nuff said.
  2. I also have a 2013 Energi. Build date was June 2013. I leased it this past March. There have been stretches where I have not run the ICE for weeks at a time, and so far I've never had a 12v battery issue. So I don't think minimal usage of the ICE has anything to do with the 12v problems. I've also made several 100+ mile drives in my NRG, and no problems whatsoever, besides having to burn dino juice. ;) I've been told the Energi charges the 12v when the HVB is charged, which is a reason the NRG's haven't been plagued by the 12v battery issue as much as the hybrids. What is the build date of your C-Max?
  3. The i3 sorta looks like an Aztek from behind, if you look at it from the right (wrong?) angle... :gaah:
  4. Insurance adjusters....I'm sure they rank in the top 10 of the 'most hated people to interact with' list. :banghead: Speaking of lunatic LA drivers, here is a recent example of one: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/stolen-tesla-cut-fiery-crash-west-hollywood-video-article-1.1855333
  5. I just recently got rear ended in my NRG. I was stopped at a signal, and some guy popped me from behind. His foot slipped off the brake and he 'crept' into me. Fortunately, I had my bike rack attached to the rear, along with the kids' bikes, so damage was limited to the bikes and rack...NRG was spared. :victory: The guy was apologetic, admitted fault, and I ended getting full (retail) compensation for the bikes and rack from his insurance co, GEICO. They even gave me the cost of labor to install the new bike rack when I asked for them to include that in the quote. The kids needed new bikes anyways, so the timing of this couldn't have been better. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. I've actually been rear-ended 3 times (each time the other party had GEICO....coincidence? :headscratch: ). Each time, the other party admitted fault, so the claims processing went smoothly every time. If you're gonna get rear-ended, get rear-ended by someone that has GEICO!
  6. That helps explain the deal I was able to get with my C-Max Energi. I leased a leftover, fully loaded '13 ($38.5k MSRP, premium paint, pano roof, all taxes/fees included) this past March for less than what the Ford website was listing a base model lease for. And the Ford website pricing didn't even include fees or taxes. MD also charges tax on the full purchase price upfront, while most other states only tax the monthly payment. At the time, Ford was offering a $9,000 leasing incentive. That particular C-Max had been sitting on the dealer's lot since June of 2013, and it only had 13 miles on the odometer when I signed the lease, meaning it was probably only test driven 2-3 times. That dealership seriously wanted to unload that C-Max!
  7. The Escape has been recalled ELEVEN times this year, yet it still sells like hotcakes. I think the C-Max's relative newness, along with the CR reliability razings, and MPG woes did it in.
  8. According to this article, the C-Max line will be discontinued by 2018, and there will be no Gen 2 C-Max. Instead, a new 'dedicated hybrid' will be introduced as a MY 2019 model. Seems to be disagreement with what 'dedicated' means though. InsideEVs seems to think that hybrid/Energi versions of the Focus and Escape will be what replaces the C-Max, while the Reuter's source says it will be a brand new line based on the future platform of the Focus and Escape. Either way, it seems our C-Max's will soon just be another footnote in history. As long as Ford is planning a PHEV SUV (Escape Energi or whatever it ends up being called), I'll can't be too sad. Too bad it won't be released by the time my current lease ends. http://insideevs.com/compact-ford-plug-hybrid-coming-new-c2-platform-2018/
  9. Plus if you are a college student/military vet, you get another $500 rebate. And if you're military, you probably have USAA, so that's worth another $100. Deals are definitely out there to be had. If you can find a 2013 model, that's at least an additional $1500 off.
  10. http://appleford.com/Baltimore-Washington-DC/For-Sale/New/Ford/C-MAX/
  11. My local dealer is selling MSRP $30.5K SELs for 22.5k, inclusive of $3k in rebates. Seems like a screaming deal to me.
  12. I took my Energi on a camping trip fully loaded with gear, including roof rack/basket filled with stuff, and even with 70% highway driving, I still managed 38 MPG in hybrid mode. And that's with an Energi, which is rated a few MPG less than the hybrid. I don't get it either. :headscratch:
  13. Total miles: 265 (119 EV) MPG: 41.7 Gas used: 6.37 gallons Energy used: 4.8 kWh Left with a full battery, and didn't charge again till we got back home. If you figure i got 20 EV miles from the fully charged battery, that's an overall trip MPG of 38.46 in hybrid mode. Not bad at all for a car fully loaded with camping gear and is only supposed to get 38 mpg once the HV battery is depleted. :smile2:
  14. Man, you really get around! Have you taken the Enterprise to Shenandoah National Park? That's one of our favorite camping spots. I've taken my NRG there twice so far.
  15. I was certain that leasing was always worse than buying, if you bought out the leased vehicle upon lease end. I looked at the numbers of my C-Max Energi lease ($38.6k MSRP, 24 month lease) and the buyout price is $20,900. Total lease payments are $8,200, so total out of pocket price at buyout would be about $29.5k inclusive of all taxes/fees. If I had purchased outright, I would have been able to receive about $7k off MSRP, so out the door price would have been $31.6k plus ~2k in taxes/fees, so $33.6k total. Subtract the $4k fed tax credit, and I get $29.6k....or pretty much exactly the same as what leasing costs + buyout price would be.
  16. Glad you got it fixed under warranty. My insurance company has optional glass coverage (something like $32 bucks a year). I pressed them, and they told me all windows were covered, including the sunroof. No deductible or anything. :) If that tiny little window is $400, I'm scared what the pano roof costs to replace OOP. :gaah: Good thing I won't ever have to find out.
  17. I've never purchased a leased car end-of-lease, but there should be a buyout price, or residual price in your leasing contract. That is the price the leasing company wants if you want to purchase at lease end (any additional fees should also be listed in the contract). If you wanted to buy it out early (not sure why you would do that), your buyout price should be the sum of your remaining monthly payments + the buyout price. It possibly might be a little cheaper due to a little less interest being charged..
  18. Yes, but I'm sure there are also lessees such as myself on here as well. Looks like us lessees will have to wait till August/September for our checks. No biggie. :)
  19. For those that have received checks, did any of you lease? Looks like owners are getting paid first.
  20. Anyone that leased get a check yet? I'm thinking Ford is mailing out the checks to owners first...
  21. Nice. Just curious, when did you purchase your C-Max?
  22. It was stated that compensation checks for the most recent FE reductions would be paid out by September, but begin as early as late June. Has anyone received a check yet?
  23. According to the below article, 988 C-Max Energi's were sold (so 1,952 hybrids). A whopping 1,939 Fusion Energi's were sold in June, good for 2nd place behind just the Leaf among all EVs. http://gm-volt.com/2014/07/02/gm-company-sales-up-volt-sales-sideways/
  24. I'm glad I leased. If the C-Max resale value tanks, Ford will be stuck taking the loss.
  25. I'm also surprised no one at Ford raised an eyebrow at the 47/47/47 MPG claims. How can a car that sits up in the air as much as the C-Max get the same MPG at City and Highway speeds??? Someone has to have lost their job at Ford over this mess.
