My last hybrid was a 2008 Escape Hybrid. That was the last year they put in a engine driven A/C compressor (well, a few of the 2009 had it as well, it switched to all electric during the 2009 model year). It could be frustrating when sitting at a traffic light or in traffic, but it did have the advantage of only putting a drag on the engine, not the electric. I think that Ford went electric on the C-Max hybrid because of the Energi - which is basically a common platform except the battery (and CPU programming), and has to have electric for those 20 miles of EV. GaryG had one of the early 2009 FEH, and he thinks that the engine driven compressor was better - the electric uses too much SOC when the engine is not running. He would know, with a lifetime average MPG in the mid 50's on his FEH, which was rated at 35 city.

I knew about the turning radius and still bought the car. It handles well, although I find the steering a bit too sensitive at highway speeds.

C-max VS Hot water heater
stevedebi replied to Marc Smith's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
We had a tankless heater in Germany and they work fine. I don't plan to install one because the hot water tank functions as an emergency water supply for earthquakes. -
Strange, long wooooo sound at steady speeds, ICE on
stevedebi replied to Alex Sams's topic in 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid
I think you have been very deliberate and considerate in working this matter. Best of luck. I would do the same if they didn't fix it - an electric/hybrid car simply must have good connections, and obviously something isn't right on yours. -
That is actually about 36 feet. No way ours is that small. I'd estimate about 39 feet or even more.

2013 CMAX Hybrid not Considered Clean Special Fuel in Virginia?
stevedebi replied to NavyRuss's topic in General Discussion
Is VA a CARB state? I recently learned that it is the automobile manufacturer that has to specify which CARB category applies. It depends on how the car compares to other vehicles, and how long the manufacturer is willing to warrant the car. But this sounds wrong, I don't think Ford would have changed it for one year. -
If she used the defrost at all, the AC was running. It runs on either the max defrost or the regular defrost setting. EDIT: Oops, misread the post! But she would be using all the time then!

Oddly enough, I believe the C-Max is a European design. But they also have three seats capability over there.

Yes, but it is possible to accidentally click on the filter options - mine was set to view only those thread that I had commented in.

Window Tint - All Windows
stevedebi replied to Edgeskeez's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
I didn't really object to the post, and I figured you were just glad about the deal you got and wanted to share. In some ways I'd like to get tint, but in others not so much. I'm staying stock for now... -
I've not seen a lot of complaints on the 2014 or 2015, either here or over on the C-Max Energi forum. II think most of the problems were early production SE models as well, so getting a 2015 or 2014 SEL might be a good idea.

I have to do a U-Turn to park in front of my house, so I notice it every day. I have to back up to avoid hitting the curb. My wife has a 2014 VW Passat that clears the curb by 3 feet, and it is a bigger car. I'm not sure why they didn't provide a better turn radius.

A/C and mileage in hot climates (Florida)
stevedebi replied to tishpit's topic in Lounge: C-MAX Hybrid
Are you driving mostly highway, or is it all in town? You would do better with a VW Jetta diesel if you are doing mostly highway. For in-town, the hybrid would be much better. That is, assuming you don't mind a diesel. We have the larger Passat TDI for our trips, and it gets around 43 MPG vs, around 37 from the C-Max at the same speeds.- 27 replies

Window Tint - All Windows
stevedebi replied to Edgeskeez's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
Well, it is the owner responsibility, and I doubt that the shop would get called out for it. The cops would not even ask - just give the ticket to the driver. I'm not sure if it is technically illegal to apply the film, but it is illegal to drive with the film on. -
You get the prize! That seems to have fixed it. I have no idea how that "Other" got set.
-
It wasn't a deal killer for me either, since I drive one! Just a note that the product could be better.

Those cubic feet are right in the way of having a useful back cargo area. And when the rear seats are flat it puts up a hump that prevents a good use of the space. It may seem small compared to the entire area, especially if you include seats down, but is messes up the usable space. Yes, it may be the best currently available in the plug-in hybrid, but a custom battery pack would provide more room. They are using the same pack for the C-Max and Fusion Energi, I believe.

Well, it helped some. I got a half dozen posts in my "unread" queue this morning. But there are a lot of posts unread when I check the forum. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

Not a problem for me, my wife won't drive our Energi. She hates the sensitive steering and sensitive brakes. Myself, when I go to fill up her car, I find myself pushing the gas in her car - and nothing happens. I have to push a lot harder on brakes and gas with her VW. I wish I had her turning radius though, it is probably a good 5 feet shorter, and the Passat is a larger car.
-
I hesitated myself, but my commute is only a few miles, and I was looking at filling up the car a couple times a year unless I took a road trip. Also, the kids are getting older - one about to go to college. Plus we have a VW Passat TDI for road trips. Taken together, the Energi was all I needed. I do wish they had some way to get the battery more ergonomic so there was more trunk space. They just increased the size (added more cells for all I know), and stuck it back there.

I agree it looks good, but it does make for a reason for a cop to pull you over. -
Worth a shot...

Oops, you went there! I wasn't going to point it out, but the OP had the work done in CA. I think the front passenger and driver windows technically are not supposed to be tinted either, but the windshield is definitely out. I'm sure that is why the first company doesn't do it. -
Kelly, Well, it is the price we pay for having those 25 or so EV miles. I would prefer to have the large space as well, if that were possible.
