  1. I.E., an electric car... there is no way to recharge that HVB without using a lot of gas, so I suppose Ford did the best they could. I wish my Energi had more battery as well, but I suppose there are limits as to what is practical.
  2. EV includes the regernation achieved from slowing down, but yes, that is the amount of miles in electric mode.
  3. That is not driving downhill, that is mostly EV driving. I had similar numbers before my first Energi highway trip.
  4. It makes sense for the Energi driver, because they can juice up at home. I'm not sure it is that important for the conventional C-Max hybrid. I suppose some of the things folks have said about cold weather apply, but really I'm not sure it is that significant.

I realize that the 12v doesn't start the car, but something has to keep the door monitors energized (to detect the touch on the opening and closing), and I've noticed that my "door lock" light is on for at least some period after I close and lock the car. I think there is a small trickle energy use in there somewhere, at least on mine which has the keyless start.
  6. Just my opinion, but folks pay a lot of money for this vehicle, and if it is having dead batteries, they should pester the dealer to find out why - or get a buy back under the lemon laws. There is no excuse for a car dying like that if it is being driven regularly.
  7. I ended up with an Energi, but I first shopped for the C-Max. We went to their big lot where they had about 30 of them lined up. The Salesman tried to start about six of them, and they were all dead. These were 2014 models. Eventually he jumped one with a portable cart so I could drive it. They don't seem to realize that you need to start it up periodically or else trickle charge it.

  11. Just curious as to why you would want to do this? The ICE uses gasoline, and the whole point of the hybrid system is to reduce the need for gasoline by assisting the engine whenever possible, especially at low speeds where the Atkinson cycle engine is not so efficient.
  12. The car electronics are drawing some power. It doesn't take much energy to run the displays and power up the system, but any drain is still a negative pull on the battery. Hence the "V" indicator on the battery.
  13. As jdbob noted, it is for cooling the battery when the energi is plugged into the external plug. I'm not entirely sure where the vent is, but it is to the outside, and it is probably directly down. When I plug in my Energi, I can hear the fan running back there.
  14. At -20F I'd definitely recommend an oil block heater.
  15. Ah, that explains it. I thought you were already installing the Level 2 charger. I have my garage door opener on the same circuit, but it doesn't pull much, and is very short duration.
  16. Ah, golf, never broke a hundred myself. It isn't just the C-Max, my 2008 Escape Hybrid was the same way - any sort of slope had a big impact on MPG.
  17. What you see is the percentage of usable battery, which varies under normal use between around 33% to 66%. It is not the actual maximum percentage of the battery capacity.

  19. RE: Fines. Just be glad is isn't California - they cost about 500 here, including court fees. I'm not sure everyone will understand your "north south". you mean going uphill (north) vs. downhill (south). I've noticed that even a couple percent grade makes a huge difference in MPG.

On my last inspection (of an older Civic), I was surprised to find that here in CA, they don't actually test the tail pipe emissions - they only check the computer to ensure everything is working right. They had just cleared the computer codes because I didn't tighten the gas cap enough (Doh!), and I drove it about a hundred miles, then took it in for the test and it passed. I'd drive yours on the highway for another 50 miles and then take it back in. EDIT: Make sure it is highway miles, so that the ICE is running, to make sure the car accumulates enough data to provide a sample to the inspection station.
  21. Odd. My door sticker says 38. I run mine at 44. But I do have an Energi, although I can't imagine they would be that different!

Odd, I looked this up a couple of years ago; I must have misread the web pages, or those pages got it wrong. They note that in general the provision of the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act run for the length of the warranty, and that these are only guides - consult an attorney to be sure. I think it is worthwile to quote a bit more of the URL: "The "Lemon Law" applies to these problems if they arise during the first 18 months after the consumer received delivery of the vehicle or within the first 18,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first. During the first 18 months or 18,000 miles, the "Lemon Law" presumes that a manufacturer has had a reasonable number of attempts to repair the vehicle if either (1) The same problem results in a condition that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven and the problem has been subject to repair two or more times by the manufacturer or its agents, and the buyer or lessee has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair of the problem as provided in the warranty or owner's manual or (2) The same problem has been subject to repair four or more times by the manufacturer or its agents and the buyer has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair of the problem as provided in the warranty or owner's manual or (3) The vehicle is out of service because of the repair of any number of problems by the manufacturer or its agents for a cumulative total of more than 30 days since delivery of the vehicle." So considering this, it is important that the owner notify the manufacturer at least once. I presume this means direct contact, not through the dealer.

  25. There is no excuse for this; after that long a run, the 12v battery should have been charged up. Check in with the dealer. I don't quite understand from your post if the car then ran, or was dead?
