  1. Do you know what protocol I am looking for? For example, one of the scanners I am looking at says: Latest Multi-Protocol Support: ISO 9141-2 (5 baud init, 10.4 kbaud)ISO 14230-4 KWP (5 baud init, 10.4 kbaud)ISO 14230-4 KWP (fast init, 10.4 kbaud)ISO 15765-4 CAN (11 bit ID, 500 kbaud)ISO 15765-4 CAN (29 bit ID, 500 kbaud)ISO 15765-4 CAN (11 bit ID, 250 kbaud)ISO 15765-4 CAN (29 bit ID, 250 kbaud)SAE J1939SAE J1850 PWM (Found on many Ford vehicles)SAE J1850 VPW (Found on many GM vehicles) No idea what the CMAX uses though.
  2. Wow, that's completely unacceptable. I would accept no more than 7 days shipping, 3 days install. It should not take any longer than that. I would have gone to a different dealer.
  3. And you dont think tire manufacturers havent gotten it wrong too? Millions upon millions of auto tires have been recalled, and most of those were recalls relating to reasons having nothing to do with the auto manufacturer. I disagree that the auto manufacturer is not the best resource to determine the tire pressure. Here is why. The tire manufacturer has no idea what vehicle you plan to put the tires on, so there is no possible way they can recommend you an optimal inflation value. A 2000 lb car is going to have a MUCH lower optimal tire pressure value than a 4000 lb car with the exact same tires. Choosing the wrong tire pressure WILL cause increased wear, reduced traction, higher risk of deflation, high risk of rollover, ect, and the right pressure depends heavily on the vehicle that the tires are attached to.
  4. What comes in the 301 package that does not come in the 201? My SEL has 201 and it has the Sony system, nav, rear camera, power lift, sunroof. I dident know Ford even offered any more options beyond that.
  5. Does the transaxle have a filter? Many auto trans have filters. I would think anything large enough to block the intercooler would snag the filter. I am also curious what could possibly be large enough to clog the intercooler. Something must have broken off. Sounds like it might be best to have the dealer pull the entire transaxle, open it and figure out what happened. Transaxle is covered to 100k so you’re lucky.
  6. What OBD port scanner device did you use with it? Is it Bluetooth or wifi?
  7. Is it possible the Scangauge is simply not interpreting the data correctly? I have seen scanners that give wildly inaccurate readings.
  8. That's strange because the 5/60 covers the fuel pump, which is clearly not a part of the engine. It says it covers the "injection pump." Is there a high pressure fuel pump mounted on the engine that ups the pressure from the fuel pump in the tank? Maybe by injection pump they mean fuel injector. Super strange that a part that is clearly part of the engine is not covered, but a part that is clearly not part of the engine is covered.
  9. According to what law? That's completely unrealistic. There is no V6 or above engine out there that can come anywhere close to those numbers, and larger engines are a staple of performance cars. Every luxury and sports car manufacturer in existence would go out of business if they had to get their cars to obtain 37 MPG highway by 2017.
  10. The first few Google websites I checked. http://www.quora.com/How-much-gas-does-a-car-burn-per-hour-while-idling http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?158002-Gas-consumption-while-idling%28parked%29 http://cinemacarsound.com/how-much-gas-do-i-burn-while-idling-at-the-drive-in/ I recall reports saying my old 2009 VW Jetta TDI used less than 0.3 gph of diesel.
  11. Anyone know how to do it? Also, any photos of what it actually looks like? I have only had my CMAX for about 5000 miles so the message has not popped up yet, I am curious what it says. I suspect something to the effect of change oil now?
  12. The oil change is not every 10k, it's whenever the computer displays a message indicating the need to change the fluid. The actual mileage depends on how you drive.
  13. What does that matter? Flash point is the minimum temperature in which the substance can burn when vaporized into the air. I dont see how that matters here at all. ATF is destroyed well before it's flash point. Anyway, the lifespan of the ATF is still in question.
  14. Why doesent it have a dip stick then? And why is the ATF rated for 150k while other trannys on new cars are rated for 50k?
  15. That seems incredibly inefficient. Most standard 4-cyl cars only burn 0.2 gph or so. Not sure what they burn with the AC, probably not 3x as much.
  16. fbov, on 19 Feb 2015 - 10:33 AM, said: I should have thought about this sooner. We're all thinking like it's an automatic, a hydraulic transmission with a torque converter that uses transmission fluid to convey power. Answers like "better to stay at 180F" and "you'll kill the tranny at 240F" are true for these devices (speaking as a former class-A motorhome owner who took it over the Rockies). However, if you look at the hybrid synergy drive, it's more of a manual transmission than an automatic, especially when it comes to the stresses placed on the transmission fluid (which is ATF, by the way). There's no torque converter, no gears shifting, no valves to get stuck, and a whole lot less bulk mechanical stress, even if the oil film stresses are high when the gears are in mesh. I see no reason to expect the kind of failure modes that plaque conventional automatics when their AFT heats up. Your thoughts? Frank One problem: ATF bakes a high temps, and the lubricating properties nearly disappear when the oil is flash heated. You can tell as the oil turns brown and smells burnt. Even if the oil is 10 miles old, if the oil overheats it's dead and needs to be replaced immediately. Not sure about the Mercon LV used in the Ford transaxle, but most ATF will only last about 30k at 220F, which is very far short of the 150k that Ford recommends between changes (or 100k, I forget which). I would take it into the shop under the 8/100k hybrid warranty which covers the transaxle. A good option would be to call a major oil company and ask them what the max temp for their Mercon LV fluid is if it's expected to be changed at 150k intervals in a sealed tranny. Specify you have the CMAX.
  17. Okay, but the question still remains why is 0W-30 not an offically supported oil for the CMAX? Ford is not going to care about the cost of 0W-30 compared to 5W because they are not the ones paying for it. If the CMAX can equally run on both 0W and 5W with absolutely no disadvantages beyond price, why wouldn’t Ford just say you can use either in the manual? Jeep says you can use 5W or 10W in the manual.
  18. Both would become inoperative. In addition, the radio, telephone and compass listings on the left screen on your HUD would not continue functioning as well. All you would get are the energy leaves most likely. Also, you would need a dash kit to install a new headunit, and last I checked no one made one for the CMAX. That might have changed though.
  19. Shouldent the shop manual say what the tolerances are? The manual is typically extremely detailed.
  20. ha! I hope you're joking about this one. You did read the battery thread, right? The one where hundreds of people have brought their car in more times than they can count and they are still having problems? This is another separate but worthwhile point to mention as well. Not only do some companies charge Ferrari prices, but they do it for Honda-level service. They charge hundreds of dollars per hour, but don't even do the job right.
  21. That's not really the consumer's problem. The customer is not going to accept you charging $100 an hour to do something they can do themselves just because you have to drive around a lot. Here is another way to think of it. When a customer agrees to a contractor, whether it be HVAC, auto repair, or otherwise, the customer is the one funding the project, which means he is the boss man. In essence, he is hiring that shop to do the work—he is the HR dude. With that said, imagine if you walked into an interview for, say, a mechanic position, the HR dude offers you $15 an hour and you say you will only accept $50 an hour because you have to drive one hour each way to work while not getting paid, food is expensive, housing is expensive, ect, ect. The HR dude is going to laugh you out of the shop and tell you good luck. The same concept applies here. You get paid what your worth, regardless of outside influences and expenses. That I agree with. Like I said, those who get ripped off do so because they have too much money, are lazy or are dumb. I would file this under lazy. As with anything, the more research on a topic you do, the better off you are going to become.
  22. This reminds me of a HVAC issue I had. I needed to get my heater repaired. The HVAC guys were wanting $6000 to do it. I laughed them out of my house, did a few days of research on the net and ended up doing it myself for $1000 and a day's labor. If they would have charged a much more reasonable and still profitable $2k, I would have given them my business. But they wanted to take me for a ride and they lost their time giving me an estimate and made $0 doing it. You cannot charge more than someone is willing to pay, regardless of what the excuses are. There is nothing wrong with making money as a business. There IS something wrong with trying to completely rip someone off. I NEVER expect something for free, but I ALWAYS demand a deal that is both reasonable for the seller and the buyer, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Look, the consumer has the upper hand in just about every industry other than healthcare. There are a million alternatives to the dealer. With the modern invention of YouTube and digital shop manuals, anyone who is mechanically inclined has some shot of being able to do a full engine or tranny swap himself. Truth be told, many dealers operate like they think they are providing ER service to a gunshot wound victim or something. But they are wrong, there are a million alternatives to a dealer (like any of the other 5000 dealers for starters). The person with the money has the power, and that's the consumer. There are a million shops willing to take my business, you tell me why I should let you have my business.
