  1. It is unfortunate that an American company that sells cars globaly is not more committed to evaluating the safety of the product before it's released to the marketplace it appeers in effort to capture sales they over look consumer satisfaction and safety, SHAME on FORD.

First I have never heard of or read of this problem.  If your 2015 built in November has had three design changes to this part already, earlier models such as the 2014 and maybe even the 2013 must also have used the same part.   How is the noise a safety issue?  You never gave more information other than you had to go on an extended test drive over various types of pavement before the noise was reproduced.

ANY car manufacturer will have items that fail, regardless of testing.  In todays world economy, the defective part could have been assembled or manufactured anywhere.

How is Ford not committed to evaluating the safety of their products?  I have worked in MANY Ford, GM, and Chrysler Plants as an outside contractor and  have witnessed some of their safety evaluations and product testing.

So you got a car with a bad strut mount.  It's not the end of the world.  If it bothers you that much, trade it in for a Toyota or Honda.  I hear their cars are so reliable that they never have recalls or mechanics in their service departments.

  2. Yes, I saw that today.  I was out driving and put in a destination on the navigation center screen.  I then made sure the right screen was set on navigation, and it showed the upcoming turn and in how long of a distance.  I only left it on for a minute or so just to see if it had that capability.

Try having the center navigation screen active, and use the zoom feature to have a distance of 300 feet or so.  This should be able to show the upcoming cross streets as you are traveling.  You can always try different distances to see what works best for you.  You could leave the big screen zoomed in close, and use the right screen for any upcoming turns and distances to them.

A few of the things you would like to see such as time to destination and mileage can be found by following the owner manual information.  For total time, why not reset Trip 1 which will keep track of time and miles driven?

The ETA box under the zoom buttons
appears when a route is active and
displays the distance and time to your
destination. If the button is pressed, a pop
up appears with the destination listed (and
waypoint if applicable) along with mileage
and time to destination. You may also
select to have either the estimated time
to reach your destination or your estimated
    arrival time.
  3. Rain X is a great product, no doubt.  I had it on my Edge and my F150 before that and was very pleased with how the water beaded and rolled right off, usually to the top of the window because of the wind helping push it up.

I really do love the rain sensor wipers and how they operate.  I have never had any of the problems you have posted, or if I did, I must not have thought it was a problem?  But I do leave my sensitivity set pretty high so that might be a part of it.  Only problem I have had was a random sweep for no reason under what I thought was a clear sky.  Maybe it has happened two or three times over the last four years with the two different cars, but still not a problem.

Only other negative I would think about the rain sensor is if you forget to turn them off when using a drive through car wash where you get out of the car.  I seldom use one, but have remembered to shut them off so far.

  4. Not very good at being able to copy and post things from the service manual, but see if this comes through for you.  This is for a 2013 C-Max but should be similar for all of them.  Doesn't surprise me that the wire colors don't correspond to what the manual says.  Pretty common, but the pin numbers should be the same.

Not sure if your car is a right hand drive or left hand drive?  Here is the right hand mirror (passenger side).  Both these schmatics are for a US left hand drive.  I noticed some additional wires for this side mirror going to the HVAC system.  You might want to check the passenger side for these wires also.  I was wondering how the drivers side got turned on by the use of the defogger since the first picture I posted didn't show anything to do so.

  5. Thanks, Blue Tom. I am indeed looking into a two-year lease. I'm awaiting a quote on the cost of a 240 power station installation but am leaning toward going with the Hybrid SEL. If there were a fully loaded (302A) Hybrid SEL or Energi in Ice Storm available in my area for lease, I would grab it. But I'm thinking a Tectonic or Red would be ok for two years while I wait to see if they bring the Caribou color to the States in a C-Max -- or bring back the Ice Storm or something close to it.

Why pay for a 240 install and equipment when the charger that comes with an Energi will probable serve you well?   Easy to use, plugs into a standard house 120 outlet, and is portable.  I have a 24 month lease, and so far have never had a need for the 240 charger or cost associated with it.   If I were buying and keeping the vehicle for more than 2 years, I would consider the 240 charger.  However, my driving habits really don't require numerous charging per day, or quick charging right now.  Plugging in at night if I know I will be using the car next day for more than a few miles, or even plugging in in the morning to get me a range that I need has worked so far.

  6. Personally I hate the Auto Wiper feature.  if the car in front of me on the highway cleans their window  and I get a few drops on my window,  Bam the wipers come on and smear the few drops around,  so then I have to run the spritzer and clean the whole window, which I also don't like the washer cycle  as it always wants to do one or two swipes more than needed and you end up with smears...

Personally, I love the Auto Wipe feature.  Ever pass or be passed by a big rig or bus while it is raining, snowing, or the road is wet or there are big puddles, etc?    You know, you get that BIG wave or gush of water from the passing vehicle.  With the rain sensor the wipers will turn on almost instantly and clear the windshield, and run the wipers fast if needed to keep it clear.  Without rain sensor, while the window is obstructed, you have to take your eyes off the road and look down to where the wiper switch is.  Or if you know by sense where the wiper switch is, you still have to take one hand off the steering wheel and turn them on.  Not a good thing to be doing when being passed by a big rig on a wet or slippery road.  You then have to make sure you set the speed correctly to keep the wipers going fast enough to clear the window.  Then you have to shut them off once the rig or bus has passed, again taking a hand off the wheel.

I have never had the wipers come on because someone in front cleaned their windshield and mine got some drops on it.  Of course, I don't have mine set on a super sensitive setting either.  You can set the sensitivity of when the wipers will wipe very easily by using the knob on the switch.  Problem solved.

  7. I looked at the wire schematic and found that you do have to take off the door panel to access the mirror connector.  There should be 5 wires like you stated.  2 additional wires may also be at the connector, which would be for the puddle light and for the heated mirror.

The heated mirror wire shows to be Green/Violet, and the puddle light mirror shows to be Violet/Green.  The heated mirror wires runs to pin #7 on the driver door module.  If you have more than 5 wires at the connector, you may be able to add a mirror with heat and puddle lights.

Best of luck and hope you can make it happen!

  8. Yes there is a need for the driver to do something. This behavior does not meet the legal requirements of many states to have your headlights on anytime you use the wipers.

So then Ford is building cars and trucks with illegal features?   The cars and trucks really aren't legal to sell in lights on with wipers states?

I would think the state laws require the lights on when the wipers are being used in a continuous motion.  If not, you would violate the laws by turning on the wash cycle and only having the wipers sweep several times and the lights weren't on.  Or if you hit the mist cycle and the wipers turned on for two sweeps but the lights didn't come on.

I will leave my rain sensors on and the light switch in AUTO as I have for the last 4 years or so in my vehicles that have those features.  The lights have always come on as I stated in my post, and I don't anticipate any citations or illegal actions to occur because of it.

  9. Yes, you will have to look at the connector that is inside the door to see how many wires are there and if any of them are not being used.  If you remove the mirror that is on the car now, you should be able to see the connector that the mirror wires plug into.  You may be able to see how many wires are on that connector without taking off the door panel.

I can try and find a wire schematic tomorrow since I have the Ford Service Manual on DVD.

  10. The right hand dash screen in my 2015 with MFT and navigation has screen selections for Phone, Entertainment, Navigation, and Fuel Economy.  The fuel economy options show the average fuel economy over a selectable time of 5,10, or 30 minutes.  A vertical bar graph shows the different past MPGs according to the time selected and the current MPG.  Unfortunately, there is no read out for fuel used.

The fuel leaves are found under the fuel Economy in a different display using the right steering wheel buttons.  There is also a selection called Coach that shows a horizontal bar graph for acceleration, braking, and cruising efficiency.  The bars are amber when half full or less, and turn blue and fill up with a number also showing your "grade" up to 100.

The navigation shows the street name that I am driving on, the direction I am driving, and the speed limit when that information is available.  I'm not sure if turn by turn or other directions are shown when I am driving with a destination on the main center dash screen.  My Edge did show that, but I haven't tried it in the C-Max yet.

  11. When the sensor detects the lack of daylight, it's designed to activate the headlamps. So when you pull into the garage, they will come on by design.

The headlamps will only come on with the wipers set to the low or high wiper switch settings. Not in rain sense/auto mode.

The lights WILL come on according to the owner's manual if you have the rain sensor wipers and the headlight control in Auto.  The wipers do have to be in a continuous movement with no long delay between wipes, however.  I have had the lights come on when the rain sensor has operated the wipers in a similar fashion to the low setting of turning the wipers on.  When the wipes slow down, the lights go off.  No need for the driver to do anything while driving in a steady rain for the lights to come on with rain sensor on.

    Pasted from the owner's manual

    Note:
If you switch on the autolamps with
the autowipers, the low beam headlamps
will turn on automatically when the rain
sensor turns on the windshield wipers

    continuously

  12. Can I buy a heated mirror from SEL and put it to my SE ??

Do you have wiring diagram of it ??

Many times rather than having two or three or more different wiring harness', a manufacturer will use just one.  This is really a cost cutting feature since it's basically one size fits all.

I belong and have belonged to other forums, both GM and Ford, and have read posts about someone adding heated mirrors, mirrors with turn signals, mirror with puddle lights, etc and not having to do anything other than a plug and play modification.  There have also been mods made inside the car and the proper wire harness was already in place.

If you don't find a wire schematic with the information you are looking for, you might have to remove the door panel.  You could then see what wires are there for the mirror and if there are any that are unused.

  13.

    Hey everyone!

I just received word on the Data Collection Fault error. Your dealership now has a fix for this if you meet the following criteria:

    • Vehicle is a 2015 C-Max or Focus Electric built between 9/7/2014 – 5/5/2015. (If you're not sure, send your VIN in a PM and I'll check for you.)
    • You have SYNC with MyFord Touch.
    • When a Vehicle Health Report is attempted in the vehicle, MyFord Touch shows “Data Collection Fault.”
    • Your cell phone never dials a phone number.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you all for your patience while we looked into this!

    Rebecca

I have all of the conditions you posted except for maybe the last one about the phone never dialing.  Do you mean it doesn't dial to obtain the Health Report, or it never dials when in the car?  Mine dials fine using the car menu if I ask it to dial so and so, or if I use the phone book in the Phone section of the MFT.  However, I have not been able to run a Health Report as I posted earlier in this topic.

  14. Any update on what happened to the panoramic sunroof glass repair?  I just found a small impact star on mine.  Not sure how it got there.  Only dime size star (or smaller) at the moment but suspect it will grow.

Do insurance companies treat moonroof glass the same way as windshield or door glass?  I.E. no deductible????

I had found a crack on my pano roof on my 2015 C-Max Energi when it had only about 250 miles on it.  The dealer took pictures and submitted it to Ford.  It was determined to be a stress crack and warranty covered the replacement.  I waited almost 4 weeks for a replacement roof to come in!

Not sure about the deductible being charged because I didn't have to claim it with my insurance.  Here is my post about the crack.

  15. I leased my 2015 Energi back in April and Ford had an $8000.00 rebate on it at the time. With $500.00 down I have a total payment of under $250.00 for 24 months, 855 miles a month.  The Hybrid didn't have near the rebate from what I recall so the prices were very comparable.  I didn't have to worry about being eligible for a tax credit if I had purchased, since a rebate was given on the lease.

  16. I saw this recently and, for those of us with '13s, it looks like it might be a decent alternative. Not sure if it is any good but, for the price ($1.18), I figure it is worth a try.

Very nice find!  Sure can't bet the price either!

There is one picture showing the add on mesh pocket near the bottom of the page, right below the I-phone that is standing up in the pocket.  I believe that picture is from a C-Max, Escape, or Kuga (Ford Escape model overseas).

I remember seeing that triangular piece on the side of the floor console right above the front portion of my factory mesh pocket.  Check my picture in reply #12.

  17. Do NOT, I repeat NOT buy an Energi. The Energi has the same 12 volt problem, just more frustrating because the stupid thing shouldn't need the 12 volt to start. I have the Energi and I charged it fully this weekend, let it sit overnight and went to start it to find the thing was dead as a doornail. I couldn't even open the door without the manual key tucked inside the Keyfob. I we jumped it only to find that the thing still had a full charge in the plugin driving battery.

I bought a used 2013 energi with 15000 miles on it 2 months ago. It's already been in the shop twice for the powered lift gate not latching. This weekend I got the 12 volt problem where it was dead in the driveway and had to be jumped even though the EV battery had a full charge on it. Since then it's started this thing where it won't start when you first push the button. All the lights come on but it never says "ready to drive" unless you turn it off and on repeatedly. The times it does start and say ready to drive it doesn't unlock the steering without being restarted. On top of that the MyFord Touch interface periodically goes to a screen where it says "performing scheduled maintenance" and after that point it won't connect to the phone or register voice commands until I do a master reset.

Today I'm taking it in for service again. I think I'm at about 10 calendar days in the repair shop so far but I'm not sure. The dealership has thus far refused to provide me a receipt or any kind of documentation of the repair work done making it extremely difficult to file under lemon law even once I reach the 30 calendar days out of service.

Does your state actually have a lemon law for used vehicles?  Check into it because it varies from state to state, just like the rules for a new car which is a lemon.

  18. That actually just happened to me also in the last several days.  Driving my 2015 with about 1150 miles on it, I tried doing a Health Report.  I had been driving about 20 minutes on the freeway at 65 MPH with the cruise set.  I got the little circle thing going round and round saying it was configuring something.  After about 2 minutes it said the report could not be sent, to try again later. Tried various times over the last day or two, but no go.

I also had a 2013 Edge and never had a problem with it.  I have the MFM and Ford Owner Site and Ford Sync Site registered under the new C-Max information and everything else is working except the Health Report.

Well, that's not true either.  I tried sending driving directions to the car using the Mapquest on line feature and it could not do so. Just a circle again going round and round.   No problems usually when I sent to the Edge.
