  1. This worked for my 2014 C-Max energi! Had a powered rockford fosgate sub/amp professionally installed and the immediate noise stumped the installer. Fosgate support suggested there may be noise cancelling activated. Of course Ford doesn't have a turn off function so your instructions saved the day. Quick and easy unplug and the noises went away. No effect on any other systems or speech through Bluetooth phone. Thank you!!!

You are very welcome, glad this is helpful to people!

  2. Wow love hearing there are some higher mileage ones out there doing well!

I bought mine several months back, it's a 2013 se that had 79k on it, I'm up to 86k now, the car creaks/has annoying door seals and the rear seatback releases are broken but apart from that it has been a good car. I'm hoping to get some serious miles on it. My average so far has been 38.3 with my highest tank being slightly over 500mi. I do a lot of highway driving.

  3. I was unsure as to what section this should go under, there isn't a section for specific how to fix stuff procedures. Mods feel free to move this wherever it needs to go!

Also for reference this was done on a 2013 C-Max Hybrid SE, as far as I could tell the Energi's and all model years should be wired the same but YMMV as usual with vehicle related stuff.

  4. Back story:

Ok, so I purchased my cmax with the intent on using it to move the family around in a nice quiet environment. It was all fine and dandy with just me in the car but as soon as I had a passenger it would randomly have horrible resonant frequencies that would drive me/us nuts. Well, eventually I figured out this was a known issue that plagues many of these cars, I verified it was indeed the ANC by tapping on the microphone when the annoying note was blaring in the car and it momentarily shut up. My first thought was to find the fuse for it and pull it. Sure enough there is a fuse in the trunk that is labeled ANC in the owners manual. I pulled it and it did absolutely nothing, the active noise cancellation was just as cranky as ever so I started my quest to figure out how to disable it.

Anyways, I was able to access the ford online database (thank you coworker who shall not be named) and checked out the wiring diagram for all the interior body stuff and figured out where all the microphone leads should go into the big module that controls all the audio integration. Found the plug, unplugged it and went for a spin! No more horrible noise! Completely defeats it with literally no other affected areas.

This procedure is absolutely critical if you ever decide to add a subwoofer onto your stock system as it'll play ANC tones through it at massive volumes if you do not

Onward to the actual how to:

    Step 1:

Open your passenger door and put the passenger seat all the way back, you will be on the floor under the dash.

    Step 2:

Stick your head under the glove box (leave it shut) and notice there is a thin fuzzy panel that is retained by two black clips that go over yellow posts. Remove the clips and pull down on the panel so you can see behind it. You should see a fuse block, some wiring, a floor light, a floor vent, and some various other stuff.

    Step 3:

Locate the gray 6 pin plug that I show in the image, all the primary wire colors are blue or brown as shown. If you need the supplementary wire colors for some reason just ask and I'll catalog them but it's the only plug that has this color combination in this direct area. Unclip it! If you are worried for some reason, you can wrap the end in electrical tape or something but they are heavily recessed and should never have any issues with touching anything.

    Step 4:

Put the furry panel back into place and stick the clips back over their posts to hold everything together. You know, the whole reassemble in reverse order thing.

    Step 5:

Enjoy your lack of Skrillex inspired wobwobwob!

  5. Welcome!

I almost purchased an '03 Vibe GT in 2004. Car was great but that dealer was a nightmare.

Purchased an '03 Vibe Base automatic instead, and still own it.

The first thing my family noticed about the C-MAX was how incredibly quiet it is compared to the Vibe.

Yes, the cmax is like a tomb of silence compared to my vibe. To be fair the vibe has poly motor mounts and a lot of very hard miles on a motor with no balance shafts. They didn't seem to care much about NVH when they built it but man is it a fantastic car.

  6. I would like more info on this ANC fix. I. It is that terrible noise too and it's always worse with people in car but didn't realize that till now

    Oh and Welcome!

I am actually about to make a how to with pictures so others can do this quick and easy! It's a 2-3 minute procedure and takes 30 seconds to put back if you decide it's something you want to use when driving solo/disable when you have passengers.

  7. Hello, I recently discovered metal in the oil of my beloved 2004 Pontiac Vibe GT (Toyota Matrix XRS) and figured it was only a matter of time before the rods/mains start deteriorating rapidly. I had owned that car since 2007 and drive quite a bit for my daily commute. I needed something as big and usable as the vibe as it had to fit a car seat nicely and be able to haul a decent bit of stuff with the seats down.

Sooooo I settled on a C-Max, test drove one, it was decent for what it was and overall a nice vehicle so I picked up a 2013 SE with a little under 80k on it for 8K from a dealership. I've put a few thousand miles on it in about a month of ownership and I've enjoyed it so far.

It is an Ingot silver SE with rear parking sensors, 8" mytouch sync setup, auto hatch lift, mood lighting, and some other options.

So far I have disabled the ANC, the fuse seemed to have no effect/control over it as the microphone being tapped still shut up the dreaded hum under load. I figured out the plug location from the microphone subharness to the body control/amp. It's in a super easy to get to spot and it definitely worked like a charm. No more horrible 100ish htz noise under load while my family is in the car. Interestingly enough the ANC never had issues when it was just me in the car, only with an additional person or two. What a pain. Anyways, I plan on adding an amp/subwoofer since the ANC is disabled anyways.

    Long winded but hello!
