  1. The speedo doesn't max out at 88. The speedo is a 3 digit. We have had 4 gen 2 and many friends with them. The gen 2 can also change to kmph with a touch of a button,so 88 kmph would be nothing. Maybe something was wrong with your gen 2?
  2. I do love the power of the c-max. I did 110 once in mine! Something must have been wrong with the Prius you mentioned, all 4 generations could do over 100 mph. Heck even the the first generation that went on sale in 2000 with only 98 hp could do 102. I went 105 in my Prius v while passing once.
  3. I'm sure they battery will last at least 10 years. The c-max won't run and drive if the battery fails. Just like other hybrids with a power split device, the battery starts the engine, slows down the car, and provids a lot of the torque in everyday driving. Just an fyi
  4. Diversion, I experience the same thing as you, my highway mileage is 36-39 mpg at 70 on flat ground. I know it's because of the 85 mph ev limit. The battery is always draining therefore putting the ICE under load, back and fourth. Really not a good thing for mpg. Almost wish I could change it back to 62 mph limit... I do a lot of highway driving at 70
  5. Also, thanks for all the suggestions, and comments! Hope everyone is off to a great week
  6. I found NKG laser iridium plugs on sale, plus 20% off coupon at advance auto parts website. So got the plugs for like $5 each instead of $10. Going to change the plugs, and also going to inspect the EGR valve. Actually pretty excited. I love working on my car. I have a few project cars, but the cmax is so solid and reliable I never have to hardly touch it. Amazing car, even if it doesn't get great highway mpg!
  7. I actually tired going 80-85 for about 30 mins, following a row of cars aggressively on off of the brake and throttle. I actually got close to 40 mpg. The car seemed to make more use of the hybrid system like that, charging, assisting, coating, accleration. My Prii used to do well in this type of driving too. Honestly I rarely do this and I don't like driving like that (especially for a long period of time) even though I might get better mpg going faster and driving aggressively. I like cruising at 70 haha!
  8. Yes, much different than a prius. I have watched your videos before. Very interesting but even doing that I still don't get great fuel economy
  9. No wind, overcast. Man I can't get anywhere near even 45 on pure long highway trips at 70. Mind you I had 3 Prii before the cmax, so I'm not new to to hybrids or driving to get good fuel economy. I'm just kinda surprised how low the fuel economy is when just the ICE is just running along.
  10. Yes the ac is on the lowest fan speed and I actually hardly need any ac due to the lovely fall weather. The ac is on Recirculate. Can't go slower as here in TN and surrounding states people go 80+ all the time and 70 is already pushing it haha! I am going to check, and clean the EGR valve and change the spark plugs soon, hopefully this weekend actually. Maybe doing thoes two things will put me back on track.
  11. Recently got back from a trip (about 600 miles) of all highway miles, my cmax is only getting 35-38 mpg on a half highway at 70 mph. The tires are aired up to 40 psi all around, just one person in the car, synthetic oil, and I run fuel injector cleaner every few tanks just for the heck of it. I set eco cruise to 70-72 and drive for hours. I am due to change the spark plugs. I hope that helps! Is there anything I can do? Or anything that might be wrong??
  12. I've owned both actually! Lovem them both for different reasons. The V got about 46 mpg no matter how you drove. The cmax is worth the 4 or 5 mpg drop for me. It's FUN to drive! Btw I know the cmax is capable of better mpg but with my life I do 25% city, plus and glide and 75% highway with eco cruise at 70 mph.
  13. I understand the specs are different, but it is the same set up. Just ford vs Toyota. That's all I'm saying. I love both! I had a 2012 v wagon before this Cmax.
  14. True, but the system is the same physically with same size battery, power split device and 4 cylinder engine. Its all in the software.
  15. It's hard to believe a cmax has been driven 100,000 miles on pure electricity with such a small battery. Think of much power has come from that small lithium ion pack! That's a lot of wear and tear on a 1.5 KW pack. That's a true testament to fords hybrid tech. I can tell you a prius won't have any where near 100,000 of ev miles when it gets to 200,000.. Maybe 30,000.. But hey the prius is still awesome and gets great mpg. I had 3 of em!
