  1. GeR2 Initially I was able to activate it but nothing worked. The only thing that did work (sort of) was the mileage however it showed my car having -1000 km. (sort of a pre assembly line embryonic stage). :) Replacing the TCU did trick. Good luck!
  2. Here is a follow up to my previous email where I described losing all functions with FordPass after the #g to 4g modem upgrade on my 2017 C-Max Energi. After 7 calls to the FordPass people (each lasting about 30 minutes each) I got in touch with Ford Canada Customer Service and was assigned a case. Here a rep took over my case and made sure the issue was resolved (covering all costs, coordinating comms between the dealership tech and a Ford engineer, etc...). I brought the car in one more time to replace the TCU module. It seems that was causing the problem. Oddly enough this is the 2nd time this module has been replaced. Anyway, after changing the module and doing what needed to be done (about 3 hours) I now have connectivity with FordPass. There are still a few little bugs but now I'm able to lock/unlock the doors, remote start, locate it on the map, display battery charge and fuel level and even correctly display mileage (it used to display -1000km before). Unfortunately, alerts (i.e. window open, etc...) are still not displaying. Despite that, it's a 100% improvement over what I had for the past 2 months. Credit to Ford for the help and to thank me for being a loyal customer I got another 4 years of warranty on the Sync unit (which includes the TCU) for free. Nice! My faith in the company has been restored.
  3. Just stumbled onto this thread... I did my upgrade back on December 10 on my 2017 Energi. I paid $650 ($750) with taxes and it has not worked since. This has been a major setback for me as I loved using the MyFordMobile app (which you cannot use with a 4G modem). I was very dependent on this functionality to track charging capacity, alerts (i.e. open windows, unlocked door, etc...). I am really pissed with Ford. Spoke to the FordPass people 7 times over the course of the 2 months. I did multiple resets, uninstall - install of the app on IOS and Android (both phones and tablets) several times and whatever things they suggested (i.e. drive it several days more than 20 km). Surprised they didn't recommend praying to the patron saint of automobiles. One of the many people I spoke to told me the problem was on Ford's end. I also received a message from one of the engineers saying everything was working....they saw my car but neglected to check if any of the functionality had been restored. Still nothing! No alerts, no status (charge, fuel), remote start, lock/unlock, etc... . However, the messages for new models seems to work fine. ? About 10 days ago I was so angry about the call I was supposed to get (3-5 business days) after my last call had still not happened after 2 weeks so I called Ford Canada Customer Service.... literally told them the "honeymoon" I was enjoying with Ford for the past 4 years was officially over. I wanted a refund and my old 3G modem back even if it no longer worked. I told them it would make no difference but at least not be out $750. The rep said she would personally take over this case (I now have a contact, phone #, and a dedicated case #). Made the appointment with the dealership for them to run diagnostics with the assistance of a Ford engineer. On the bright side, FordPass app, which only reports my position also shows my odometer at -1000km. Yup minus 1000km (Ford sees this as well). I have my appointment this coming Monday, the 28th of Feb. I also emailed the rep at Ford Canada telling her that I would not be paying anything for this diagnostic considering I was sold a broken product. The reply was I would have to work that out with the dealership... . Seriously? Ford is trying very hard to lose a customer. More to follow
  4. Congratulations bored001! This is my first Ford, my first North American and love it (having driven SAABs for 27 yrs and Japanese for about 12 years). Seeing how you are going to do most of the maintenance yourself might I recommend getting the workshop manual for your car. I just got one off of eBay for my 2017 https://www.ebay.com/itm/303624878247?ViewItem=&vxp=mtr&item=303624878247 and love the fact that I now have all the info I need at my fingertips. The manual I got (in PDF) runs 6727 pages and covers everything. As an electrical engineer you will most likely find this a very valuable too. It's huge but with the search function in the PDF reader I am able to find whatever I'm looking for. Cheers!
  5. It is weird though that it starts everytime. What happens when the car is parked elsewhere (say at a mall)?
  6. Silly question but are you touching the accelerator before putting it into drive? Just wondering...
  7. The 99... a ground breaking classic. The 3 door hatch?
  8. As did I. What a gorgeous car. In the end I was worried about replacement parts and high insurance costs due to the car's rarity. Ironic that the successor of SAAB, NEVS (National Electric Vehicles Sweden), is building 100% EV vehicles using the last round of 9-3 SAAB designs but only in China. I noticed lots of little similarities in my C-Max that I saw in my last 9-3 Sport Combi. For example, the tailgate assembly locking mechanism is virtually identical as is the rear storage cover assembly (the retractable bar, the way it operates and locks - identical). Cheers!
  9. Is their a huge price difference? What does your mechanic recommend? On previous cars I would usually do both together but those were SAABs (which were notorious for going through bushings at a ridiculous rate). Cheers!
  10. Use a Shop Vac style vacuum cleaner. It really sucks (in a good way) and will avoid pushing some debris further into crevices in the body work. I have a special thin nozzle (looks like a long, thick drinking straw). Great for getting at some tight spots. @cmax-nynj I'm curious to see what you did with the insulating foam under the hood.

Yes, I noticed the grill right away. Very nice!
  12. Greetings! Just wanted to formally introduce myself. I've been lurking here for close to 2 years and wanted to setup an account but each time something would screw up (usually with receiving the confirmation email). At one point I gave up. I was feeling lucky tonight and the sign up procedure was flawless so here I am. I know of all the excellent info here and hope to contribute as well. Cheers! BTW, Love my 2017 C-Max Energi SE. After 27 years driving SAABs I never thought I would enjoy a car as much as I did my 900s and 9-3s. Ford proved me wrong. ?
