  1. I don't think I've EVER gotten the EPA mpgs on any car I've ever owned. I've never expected to get the EPA numbers because I always assumed those numbers were under ideal conditions.  I've read these 5 pages of "who to point the finger at" and who's at fault for the discrepancy between EPA numbers and actual numbers. Some people seem to be real passionate over this issue and continue to harp over and over in numerous posts. There are so many variables involved in what your mpgs will be it isn't funny. I'm no hyper miler, but I'm also no hot rod. I drive very moderately with no fast starts or hard braking unless necessary. Today I was on a little drive, about 5 miles at 70mph on the highway and the other 22 in regular city driving, 35-45mph. When I got home, this was my result:

NO special driving was done. Regular driving with traffic. I'm FREAKIN ECSTATIC with these results. I LOVE THIS CAR. Do I get this all the time? No. Did I get way worse in the winter? Yes. WAS THIS TO BE EXPECTED? YES. Unfortunately, in the world we live in, some people like to focus on the negative side of anything.

  2. ...pulls up next to me at a light. He rolls down his window and asks me what kinda mileage I'm getting. I glance down at my display and tell him "43". He then asks me if I was driving any certain way to get that mileage. I said no, just driving it like a car. He then asked me if it did any better on the highway. I told him I didn't know. I don't do any highway driving. He said thanks and we went our separate ways.

  3. Took mine in Wednesday for oil change, tire rotation, and 3.5.1. Dropped it off at 9am. 11:30 service guy calls and says all set but couldn't do 3.5.1. Ford's computers were down. Took it back on Friday and waited because he said it would take an hour or so. 3 hours later it was 'done'. Pulled out of the service dept. and stopped to check new features. Nothing new that I could find. Pulled back in and asked service guy what's up. He poked around and couldn't see any change. Took it back in and ran some sort of diagnosis and it showed some part of the update was corrupt. Anyway, after nearly 5 hours, I drove off with 3.5.1, FINALLY.

  4. We got the Sel because we wanted the extra features plus not having a power seat would have been a non starter for us. I'm 6'1, wife is 5'4 & daughter is 5'2. My back messes up on occasion so wanted the lumbar support too. If I could have gotten an SE with power seat I would have considered it. I would also think you might have been able to get a better deal on an in stock SEL if you could find one. I only paid 25, 700 OTD for mine.

MSRP on a BASE SEL is $29160. Employee pricing on that same base SEL including a $750 rebate is $25975.That does NOT include tax. Could you please explain how you paid less "out the door" than the employee pricing and rebate. I paid $25500 "out the door" for my SE using employee pricing and $1000 rebate. The sticker on it was $27190 MSRP. I guess I'm gonna have to buy my next car in VA if they sell them that cheap out there.

  5.

We have an ugly black box on top of our White Platinum C-Max, with an ugly black antenna attached to it. It's a real eyesore, on an otherwise fine looking car. What's it for - anyone know? We do not currently use a Bluetooth cell phone, so if it's somehow related to cell phone use, can I at least unscrew the black antenna?

The black trim around the windows and the black lower trim plus the black tires and black grill must drive you nuts. LOL

  6. I got a busted windshield in my C-Max a couple of months ago. Went to my local glass shop to get it replaced. Had it replaced and all was good, or so I thought. Weeks after the fact, I spent a nice weekend detailing my car. When I got to the windshield, I was putting rain x on it, starting at the top. While staring at the windshield, I noticed that I could see the front and top edge of the headliner. I could actually see the wire running above the headliner to my remote start antennae. I knew something wasn't right. Got in the car and checked the headliner, nothing wrong there. All I could figure was the black trim around the top of the windshield wasn't wide enough. Drove down to the dealer and measured the black trim on a new one and compared it to the black trim on my new windshield. Mine was 2" wide and the new car at the dealers' was 3". Mystery solved. Went back to the glass shop and told him and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said that was the replacement windshield and he's never had any problem before and he's replaced C-Max windshields. I told him it looked like crap and was unacceptable. He said he would look into it and call me. 2 hours later he calls and tells me I'm right. There's two different companies that make the replacements. Carlite, which is the original that comes in the car from Ford. And Guardian, which is what they put in my car (because it's cheaper). They ended up getting a Carlite and swapped it out for me.

    Here's the 'bad' replacement.

    Can't believe I didn't notice it sooner.

  7. Got the Cmax back tonight.  The noise is definitely gone......hooray.  The strut and strut plate on one side was replaced and the noise stopped.  Would show itself more when hotter weather was prevalent.

The bouncing is not resolved.  Mine does it.  A new one does it.  Another new one doesn't do it.  This is another saga unsolved, but the rattling is fixed and that is a great thing.

I had the exact same issue. Was worse in warmer weather. Strut plate replaced last week and all is quiet now. Must be the color. I have Ice Storm also.
