  1. The lost space is about 5 cu ft. The Hybrid cargo space is about 50 cu ft with the seats down.
  2. To the OP: For a different perspective on this, try posting the question over on the fordcmaxenergiforum.com. Most of those who have experienced driving on plug-in EV have fallen in love with it and would be green with envy toward anyone who bought an Energi of any age for $3k less than the comparable Hybrid. A trip needs to be over a100 miles before the Energi uses more fuel than the Hybrid. The actual loss of cargo space is about 5 cu ft, or about 10% of the total. A significant part of the loss, however is a reduction in height of objects that can be loaded through the rear hatch; so check it out. For your hauling needs that might be important,
  3. I also found that having auto play off in addition to Gracenotes disabled solved the problem. What exactly is auto play anyway ? What is it supposed to do?
  4. Further to this, I should add that the bit about "without the owners knowledge or consent, and even against the owners expressed instructions" was from my own personal experience.
  5. For what it's worth, this is not exactly the first time this sort of thing has been done intentionally. In 1992, Cadillac did a similar thing for their full sized Cadillacs with the 4.9 L V-8. The EPA tests were specified to be done with the air conditioning off. Cadillac programmed their cars to pass the EPA test with the climate control system off, but when the A/C was turned on the computer switched to different settings which gave better performance and mpg but with greater emissions. A few years later, the EPA discovered this trickery. The EPA admitted that Cadillac had passed the tests legitimately and had abided by the letter of the rules, but accused them of intentionally violating the intent of the rules. Cadillac agreed to replace chips on the affected cars with chips that would give lower emissions with the A/C on (at the expense of some performance and mpg). It was not a recall, but it was done whenever any of the subject cars appeared a the dealers - often without the owners knowledge or consent, and even against the owners expressed instructions. When the chip was replaced, the original chip was immediately destroyed; so that if owners who did not want the change would not be able to insist on having their old chips back when they discovered a record of the unwanted replacement on their receipt.
  6. Does anyone know what the cargo space of the Model X is?
  7. In London last week, I saw a number of C-maxes and Kungas on the street. In Calgary, Canada the week prior, I saw a whole lot more C-max Hybrids on the street than I usually see in Houston. (I note that Calgary is is as much of an oil industry town as is Houston.)
  8. My Energi is on it's 5th fill-up as well - and that is in over 2 years ! - and I usually fill up at about half empty !!
  9. I am extremely curious to know why you would want the ecoboost badge(s).
  10. Rony, Good going. I wish I had thought of leaving the single rivet in place before I bulled ahead. Glad you like the look. Now, if I could only find an Aston Marton badge in the right size! Jack
  11. Plus 3 Golfer: FYI, current Ford site gives base MSRP for the Hybrid SEL as $27,170 and for the Energi (SEL) as $31,170. The price difference is essentially equal to the $4007 Federal tax credit. Adrian: As a matter of fact, the Energi will fit exactly 4 carry-on bags, seats up. Kashmir: Congratulations on your great new car and on your success in getting them to sweeten the deal with equipment !! I would be very interested to know details on the roof racks you got.
  12. Excellent stuff from Kelley, here. My father was a salesman. He sold both new (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury) and used cars. He had much advice on buying cars. A few examples I am thinking of now are: The dealer's job is to separate you from as much of your money as possible. Yours is to keep as much of your money as possible. They are professionals at this, and you are an amateur. The only way you can beat them is with personal discipline. There's no such thing as a good deal on a bad car.A car that does not suit your needs is a bad car for you.Buy the best car you can comfortably afford and one that will suit your needs for a long time. Then take really good care of it and keep it as long as possible. In order to make a good deal, you must be prepared to walk away from a bad deal. If you are not, they can smell it, and they will rob you. (My buddy adds, "... and the only way to make a great deal is to be prepared to walk away from a good deal.")
  13. Many Energi buyers (like myself) are convinced that (after considering the Federal tax credit) the Energi can be bought for essentially the same price as a similarly equipped SEL Hybrid; so that the price of the car does not necessarily affect the decision.
  14. To clarify, my 200-mile crossover point assumed one charge; so, assuming no opportunity to charge other than at home, this would equate to a 100-mile one-way (200-mile two-way) commute or trip. Edited July 14, 2015: Correction - my recollection of that calculation was wrong: the 200-mile crossover point calculation assumed charging at destination as well as at home; so without the opportunity to charge at the destination, that would equate to a 50-mile one-way (100-mile two-way) commute or trip.
  15. By my calculations, the crossover point (at which the fuel used - gas plus electric - in the Energi would exceed that for the Hybrid) is about 200 miles. (I could elaborate if anyone is interested.)
  16. I note from the article that the Mexico production could begin in 2018. Presumably this would be for the 2019 model year. It is difficult to imagine that they would make that move for only one or two years of production; so, I suppose that this indicates plans to keep the C-max Hybrid and Energi alive for at least another 5 model years. Judging from events in the oil industry beginning in 1986 and their similarity to current events, I imagine that this might be long enough for high gas prices to re-appear.
  17. For the 12-month period, I drove 2145 miles. As I posted previously: With minimizing gasoline use as the goal: some choose to live close to everything they need - work necessities, entertainment, recreationsome use alternate fuelssome go for high mpg.I went for all of the above. If one were to drive every day (as I do) and use a tank a year, my guess is that one would probably need to do all of the above. In making this thread, I was hoping to find out how many others have done the same or better. When it comes to how many miles can be done on a single tank and within a year, Gary G seems to be the clear leader with over 15,000 miles.
  18. I note that the Escape and the Fucus were also rated #1 in their respective classes. The Escape, Focus and C-max are all built on the same platform. CR seems to like that platform!
  19. Well, I made it 11.7 galons used (by the pump) over the last 12 months., and averaging a usage rate of less than a tank a year over the last 18 months.
  20. I agree with Paul that the chief considrations are driving pattern and the tradeoff of space vs. plug-in capability. These are individual choices. My driving pattern is such that I get about twice the (gas plus electric) fuel economy with plug-in than I would get without it, and my C-Max Energi has a lot more cargo space than the car it replaced. I had experienced both conventional and plug-in hybrid and also wagon and sedans before getting into the C-max Energi. For me, both the wagon/utility layout and the plug-in technology were game changers - like color TV. Once I had experienced them it was hard to even think of turning back. I had considered both the Fusion Energi and the Escape prior to the C-max. If cargo space had been my top priority, I probably would have gone with the Escape. If it had been my lowest priority, I would probably gone for the Fusion Energi - now there is a classy ride!. It is difficult to understand the appeal of Plug-in hybrid technology without actualy having experienced it. (A test drive will not do the trick. It takes months.) On the other hand, the loss of space is very easy to see and evaluate. A number of members over on the C-max Energi forum have owned both the C-max Hybrid and theC-max Energi. These members have experienced the plusses and minuses of both cars. Check out the discussions over there.
  21. With only a few days to go to close a year since July 1 2014, I am still on track to use lesss tan a tank's worth in 12 months. Stay tuned.
  22. For wehat it is worth, and re. the title of this thread, in the US we never used the Imperial system. The US system is based on an English system that pre-dated the Imperial system. The units hacve the same names, but they are differently defined, the ounce, the gallon, the pint and the quart and the the number of ounces per pint are all different What's more, the difference in the sizes of the pint, quart and gallon is not just the ratio of the number of ounces per pint. Even the inch and the foot are slightly different.
  23. Update: Still have not needed to add any air, nearly 5 months since late January. Do you believe in miracles?
