  1. Here's the before picture: And the after picture: Just kidding. On my way to the dealership now!
  2. I plan to. When I made my appointment to get the FE update I asked about the headliner recall and got a lot of "um...uh...well.....uh...". But when I got home tonight, there was a message on my home machine saying they had the parts and could give me a loaner car if I called back by 6PM. Since I was still at work at 6PM, I sort of missed that deadline. I'd like to get both done at the same time, but if they don't have a loaner car for me, I can't wait around for both fixes and will have to wait on the headliner. Hopefully tomorrow I will have an update for you guys on both the FE update and the headliner fix.....with pictures.
  3. I use my car essentially for back and forth to work each day - which is 30 miles each way, mostly freeway speeds. Depending on wind, temperature and how much of a hurry I am in, I have consistently gotten between 40-42mpg on these trips. I do very little running around in town - partly because when I'm at work, I'm generally working through my lunch stuffing down a pb&j at my desk and when I'm home, well I'm nowhere near a town! The update should show pretty quickly if there will be improvement or not. Clearing my phone so I can snap photos and post.
  4. Having the update done tomorrow morning before work. My drive from the dealer to work is about 22 miles - 20 of it at freeway speeds. Will be interesting to see if there is a big difference. I'll keep you posted.
  5. I use it. I keep some tools, ratchet straps, and a small first aid kit back there.
  6. As a cattle rancher, I've rounded up cattle with a jeep, a tractor and an F-250. I'm not going to let my husband read your post in case he wants me to try it with the C-max!
  7. I'm calling my dealer in the morning to get an appointment for the FE update. Hopefully they will have a headliner fix date as well.
  8. Yeah, that does suck. But it means those that live a lot further away don't have to pay through the nose for destination fees.....just for everything else!!
  9. Lifetime is 98% (not yet at 1000 miles). My worst was 23% - on the day I got the car was driving around getting the hang of things. Decided to take a run up the highway to the nearest town and had just hit 65 mph when 2 very large deer decided NOW was a great time to run out of the woods and cross the highway. :swear: On the positive side, the brakes work REALLY well! And both seat belts lock tight in place too! Safety check: complete! :salute:
  10. I'll be in line to get the update. Then I'll (hopefully) join the 600 mile club, be the top performer on the 500 mile challenge and say, "Nope. I didn't get the upgrade....I'm just that good!" Seriously though, I do want to get the update. I think it would suit my routes to and from work a little better. Like HannahWCU, I'm in an area where flat, level roads are practically non-existent. I have zero interest in traveling 80 mph, but I do like the idea the EV engine would stay on while coasting downhill at 70 or 75. Just yesterday I had to run up the road about 6 miles to pick something up at the vet. It was straight uphill all the way there and I managed to rock 13.5 mpg. However on the way back, I was at almost 80 mpg.....and a lot of that was down hill at 70 mph....so with the update, the downhill portion would have (theoretically) been much better.
  11. I ordered mine on April 30 and it arrived on June 29th. I got my survey on July 16th and it referenced the 29th as my purchase date. I don't know the inner workings of the dealerships, but I know for me, I had planned on leaving the CMax at the dealership until July 1, when the window tint was going to be done. Our sales guy, who we have dealt with for years and like very much (except when he turns on the seat warmers and toasts me!), said that was fine, but asked if we could at least sign all the paperwork and settle up financially on that Saturday, since that would put the car in that sales month.
  12. I'm about halfway through my second tank of gas and getting about 42 mpg on average - which is slightly better than I expected based on the amount of 70+ mph roads I drive each day. I'm working on improving, however and I've been playing with different displays, cruise vs. non cruise, hill assist vs. not, etc. So today I'm in eco cruise at 70 mph and I switch my display to see the "fuel efficiency" display and I get the acceleration, braking and cruising coach. WTH? Cruising coach was yellow and almost down to 1/4 bar!!! My acceleration and braking graphs were great, but the cruising one sucked! Later, when I was on a road where I'm traveling at a slower speed (abt 60 mph) but going up and down some fairly large hills, my "cruising" coach tells me I'm great. I pulled up my owner's manual when I got home. Let's just say it wasn't very helpful. So can anyone tell me what actual behavior is being measured here? I was thinking it was looking for consistency in speed, but since I was getting crap results on cruise control, I'm guessing not. If this topic has already been addressed somewhere, I apologize - I didn't find it when I searched the forum. Thanks in advance for all of the wisdom you are about to send my way!
  13. Hi Fiona, congrats on your new ride! There are a lot of great ideas for things you might need/want for your C-Max, but most of it is a matter of personal preference. After reading about the people who had battery problems, I got one of those jump starter things that fits just perfectly in one of the little cargo nets in the back. I also had the windows tinted immediately. ScubaDadMiami recently posted a photo of a waterproof canvas liner her purchased for the back of his C-Max and I'm ordering one for myself this week. If you like the rubber mats, there was a discussion on the pros and cons of the cheaper WalMart variety vs. WeatherTech (which apparently does not cover the dead pedal on the driver's side) vs. Husky. I was told it is imperative to purchase some snazzy new sunglasses that compliment my new ride! My advice is to drive it for a while and see what you think. Read everything on the forum and learn from what others have done that worked and what didn't.
  14. I'd like some vanity plates, but I'm not going to pay the extra $$$ every year for them. If it was a one time fee, or an extra buck or two each year fine. But in Texas, they hit you every year for more than double the usual renewal. Pfft.....no thanks.
  15. Now you wait.....and wait....and annoy your friends, family and co-workers while you wait some more. In my case I had my VIN within a week or so of ordering. My dealer was able to eventually tell me my build date about a month into things, but my window sticker didn't magically appear until about a week before the build date. After my window sticker was available, my dealer was able to give me an estimated delivery date and after my build, they were able to give me updates about transit. On Friday, the day my car arrived, I sent the dealer their daily "stalker, checking in!" e-mail and they confirmed it was still scheduled for the following Monday. A few hours later I got a call from my dealer. They still had their dealer prep and window tint to do, but they let me drop by for a visit on my way home from work that night Congrats on your order - enjoy annoying people while you wait!
  16. As I understand it, EPA testing is not intended to gather real-world data. It is intended to create a consistent measure that can be compared to other vehicles. Personally I'd like to see several EPA ratings - mostly city driving, mostly highway driving, and hills. I recognize my driving patterns will rarely, if ever, get me to that 47 mpg for an entire tank of gas. But when I run the numbers based on my limited experience with my C-Max (not even halfway through my second tank) I am getting slightly higher mileage than I expected. Personally I am averaging around 35 mpg highway (70+ mph, lots of hills - and I SWEAR it's mostly uphill both ways!) and 55 mpg city. When I weight these based on my driving percentages (about 25% city), I should be getting about 40 mpg....and for this tank I'm at 42. If I weight these based on what I remember the EPA uses (60% city), it's right at the 47 mpg the C-MAX was rated. I'm not saying that anyone else is right or wrong, I'm just saying that I bought my C-Max for multiple reasons - not just the magic number of 47. I am happy with my results and I believe they are in line with the EPA tests, modified for my driving style. If I used these calculations and figured I should be getting 40 mpg and was getting 33 mpg as some people are experiencing, I would not be a happy camper. As a side note, My current average is 89% of the EPA rating. My last two cars were both getting 75% of the EPA rating. So for me at least, the C-Max is performing better than previous vehicles as compared to EPA combined mileage rating (and yes, I'm still driving essentially the same routes). So far I love my C-Max. I'm learning to drive it more efficiently and I'm loving driving past the gas station I used to visit every 4 days!
  17. I embarrass my husband all the time (it's a valuable skill to develop!), but he's actually the one that spotted the Ruby Red and suggested I park next to it! He wasn't so happy when I snapped the picture, but that's because he thought I was trying to get him in the photo. If you look closely, you can see I got his hands and the toes of his sneakers in the picture.....he used to be quicker at diving out of photos!
  18. I would call myself a hypermiler-wannabe. I've had my CMax for 8 days and I am improving my FE driving skills. I did not reset the lifetime stats when I got the car - figured to do that after one or two tanks so it reflects my "mature" driving skills vs. my "woo hoo! new car!!!" skills. I am noticing little things I do that apparently stick a large straw in my gas tank and suck out fuel. These instant feedback gauges are great for teaching me to drive more efficiently. Getting the hang of "feathering" and P&G. I've even started cutting back on the AC temp and blower to see what impact that has. My normal driving is about 80% highway, so I'm not expecting to get 47mpg, but my trips to and from work (about 65 miles round trip) are pretty consistently in the 42-44mpg, so no complaints here. Went to the post office from work the other day (about 5 miles, admittedly mostly downhill) and got 56mpg!! I've had a few lower mpg trips, but none below 35mpg. In my last car I was filling up every 4-6 days (with a bigger tank than the CMax has). Based on my current fuel consumption, I expect my first fill up to happen on Tuesday - 10 days since purchase. So even if I haven't reached hypermiler status, I'm achieving my goal of flipping off the gas station as I pass it! As for better or worse driver, I think I'm about the same as before. It has been extremely tempting to watch the gauges rather than the road, but I resist lingering there. I've just added a glance at the gauges to my normal eye rotation of keeping an eye on everything. I reserve the right to reply to this post again in a month or so if I start thinking of myself as a hypermiler for real!
  19. 1968 Ford Mustang. I miss that car!!!
  20. Parked next to this Ruby Red SEL with panoramic roof and a rollup Heatshield at Ingram Park Mall in San Antonio today. This is not the same Ruby Red I saw in Pipe Creek the other day. Just had to park my new one right next to it. Hi there, whoever you are!!!
  21. This is what a CMax looks like after her first trip down our dirt road.
  22. Went to pick up dinner and spotted this Ruby Red in the parking lot at the restaurant Friday night. This afternoon my husband and I went to pick up some equipment a few miles from here and passed the same Ruby Red in a driveway.
  23. Not to my knowledge. But if it shows up on a new CMax ad in the future, I'd better get compensated for pain and suffering. :finger: Or was that pain and suffering I inflicted on sales guy and husband? I get so confused. Honestly officer, I was suffering from heat stroke! I can't be held responsible for my actions!
  24. I picked up my CMax yesterday, and even though I've spent 2 months reading every post on this forum, studying my owners manual, etc., I let the guy go through his demo of where everything is, what it does, etc. We've bought several vehicles from this guy and we like his quirky sense of humor and the insanely funny stories he tells us. So he's got me paging through the various displays and he reaches across me pointing out various features while I'm thinking, "Dude! Shut it! I just wanna drive it!!". I hear my husband chuckle a bit from the back seat where he's watching this exchange and I think he's just read my mind. I am a woman "of a certain age" and my husband has told me he thinks I contribute to global warming. I'm sitting there trying to concentrate on the demo and I'm getting hotter and hotter and hotter... I'm thinking, "Oh crap.....I'm going to melt in here" and I turn up the blower on the A/C and lower the temperature to "Arctic Blow". About the time the sales guy reminds us that we will get a survey asking how he did I notice the heated seat is set to 5. My profanity filters went straight out the window and I called him everything I could think of, plus I made up a few colorful phrases. He and my husband were both laughing so hard I thought they were going to hurt themselves (and I wouldn't have felt the least bit sorry for them either!!). Seat warmers are very warm, in case there are people out there who were wondering. And they get warm extremely fast when it's a record setting temperature day of 108. On the positive side, I also discovered that I can reach both the passenger in the front and the back without having to twist myself around!
