HendersonD Posted February 25, 2014 Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 I started looking at the C-Max in December and ordered a 2014 SEL on January 3rdRub redPanoramic RoofNav packageHands free packageOn January 27th my dealer told me the build date for the car was the week of February 24thOn February 18th my delaler told me the build date got moved to the week of March 11th On the lot the dealer has 2013 SEL that is the same as the one I ordered except it is in black instead of redRight now the 2013 is $685 cheaper but my guess is with some negotiation I can save even more by purchasing the 2013 So it really comes down to two choices:2014 in red, all the changes they put in the 2014 (better gas mileage? fix any problems found in 2013 model year?), pay more2013 in black, none of the changes made in the 2014 model year, pay lessShould $685 and immedate delivery of the car make up for the fact that I am not getting the newest model year?What if I can drive the price difference to $1,000 or even higher? We see 4,5,6,7 .... K discounts around here. Tell them to tempt you with a low enough price and extras to make you do the 2013, and see what you get. I love my 2013. So, I'd have no qualms about getting that . . . for the right price. Laurel Posted February 25, 2014 Report Share Posted February 25, 2014 Don't settle. You want a ruby red car. If that is your heart's desire, you won't like a black one. Plus just think how much less any of us who have 2013's would get for our cars if we traded in. Much better to wait for your special order unless you get $5000 or so knocked off the price--it has to be worth it to you to settle for less than you wanted. So I put the options I was interested in to them and they ordered it and I liked it and bought it. I had to go to MI for my Focus and Charlotte,NC for my wife's ECOboost Explorer. I thought *piece of cake*....NOT! Almost as soon as the order was placed I started searching websites of dealerships near me to see if I could find one *close* to what I had ordered. I wanted the Instant Gratification! I am so happy that I waited for the car I ordered to arrive.......and you will be too! Can't wait to see the pictures! The changes might help highway drivingbut I do not believe to a significant amount. Since I drive only about 25% of the time on highway the potential fuel saving would be small.Also 2014 models did not have any incentives where as 2013 models offered $1500 Ford Cash Back and $1000 Ford Credit Rebate. Plus the dealer was discounting an additional $1200. To me the choice was easy.Have had the car almost a month. Really like it. With about 800 miles so far my average mileage is showing 45.3 mpg. I was afraid of the 2013's battery problems and being the first year out. My suggestion is to wait and get what you want. The incentives were $1000 cash and o% for 36 mo. on the 2014. New car shopping is a sport for me. I downloaded over 100 2013 C-MAX window sticker pdfs (and looked at dozens more including 2014's) in a 5-state region to find the few cars equipped with at least the equipment we wanted and in colors we could live with. We found the best deal on a new 2013 just 17 miles from home, at a reputable volume dealer, with thousands off the sticker price, in addition to applying the $2500 cash rebates for using Ford financing. Buying at the end of a long cold snowy midwest winter when car sales were rotten, buying at the end of the month, and buying the end of the quarter when current $1000 + $1500 rebates were expiring all helped to quickly seal the deal.They wanted to move that car! Don't forget some of the improvements with the 2014 that are worth the diferance in price. If you plan on keeping the CMAX for 4-5 years mileage is going to be the main difference in resale value. I don't see new improvements making a significant difference in MPG's. The difference in the improvements maybe cost $200 at most. Keep in mind, we're replacing a 1996 Taurus, also purchased new.After 17 or 18 years, trade-in value isn't going to be significantly different, unless they find $100 under the back seat.The dealer isn't going to clean it up to sell it, it's going straight to auction.We've donated our previous 2 'trade-in' cars to local charities who dispose of them via auto auctions anyway. The two spoilers on the back windows I'm not seeing doing much for MPG's, same with the hood seal, not all 2014 have it.
