mtb9153
Was driving at freeway speeds heading up to Sacramento on a two lane section of I-5. A truck kicked up a rock, pebble, whatever now Maxus has a chip with hairline cracks radiating from the impact point. Don't want to replace the windshield because from my experience they are never the same over the factor glass. Has anyone had any experience with that system which injects an epoxy into the chip to stop the cracking?
Jus-A-CMax
Yeah, I did that for my Jaguar window. Let them assess it, some are fixable, some are not - depends on the crack. Mine cost $50 for private party. Look in yelp.com for a good business. I can't remember who did mine but it was one of those large auto window repair franchises - great customer service as well. I went back there for some really minor nicks for Maxine when she was young, and the guy flat out told me I didn't need it. And get it done asap, you don't want all the shock and bumps from driving to open the crack more...if I were u ;) Edited August 8, 2014 by Jus-A-CMax

The crack needs to be under a certain size to be eligible for the epoxy fix, but if it is, the system works very well for preventing the crack from enlarging. You may or may not get an improvement in appearance. Sometimes the crack can almost disappear but other times appears about the same after the repair. Check with your auto insurance company. Many policies waive the deductible for the crack repair and pay the full cost since that is much cheaper for them than replacing the glass. plus 3 golfer
Yes, the epoxy works great but get it done before any "dirt" gets in the fractures and like Jus says before it cracks more especially if you don't have full glass coverage as the C-Max OE windshield is expensive (when we had ours replaced there was no aftermarket windshields available for the C-Max). Road debris put a small chip with hairline cracks smaller than a dime in our windshield. The next day the windshield cracked to the edge while my wife was driving requiring replacement. fbov
...Maxus has a chip ...All I can say is THAT SUCKS! Let's hope the crack repair system does as well, as a good vacuum is the secret to a clean repair! Frank
vmmvmmm
We had a rock hit our windshield on the way home from the dealership and went to get it filled with epoxy. I honestly can't even remember where the crack was now, because I can't see where they filled it. I'm sure that depends on the size of the crack and the skill of the filler, but I've had good experiences with that resolution.
wab
How big is the chip/crack?Safelite says they can fix up to 6".https://www.safelite.com/Windshield-Repair.10933.0.html We've had 1 repair this yr. gravel/rocks/boards/nails construction is a way of life in N Texas. We pay a few $'s a yr for glass breakage. There's a guy that sets an awning up on a Lowes parking lot, don't even know where his shop is.He has a deal with our insurance co. $45 for him, $0 for us :), doesn't even show as a claim. mtb9153
The mark it left in my windshield is smaller in diameter than a green pea. There is one very short crack radiating from one side and it can't be longer than and 1/8"
drdiesel1
Safelite would be my choice and your ins. will probably cover it without a deductible.
Kunari
Sorry to hear about Maxus, if you're not sure who to go to ask your insurance agent. I've found mine knows the local repair shops, but Safelite is a good choice as well.
fazzman
Had my mazdaspeed3 windshield fixed twice. Both times I couldnt even find it unless I was really looking hard. Used safelite. No money out of pocket.
Ponypower
A friend of mine had a flying rock crack his 2014 Ford fusion. Too make a long story short he had to go back to the dealer to get a ford windshield since Safelite does not carry the special sound glass that installed on our Fords. In my opinion don't settle for replacement glass get the original by Ford. Tell your insurance company about the special glass and have them pay the price. Thanks, Treat Maxus right!!!
