salprint
I was reading the owners manual to see if there is a way to lock or to purchase a way to lock the gas cap system. Can't find anything on it. I'd like to have the ability to lock it, especially here on Long Island where there are lines at gas stations about 1mile or more long. Seems to me they could have at least put a release handle in the vehicle somewhere to unlock to door.
rfruth
It does seem odd since the C-Max Energi has a fuel filler door that has to be released from inside the car, in Ford's defense most gas thieves are going to punch a hole in the bottom of the tank rather than hassle with the stock capless system but to answer your question locking caps are available http://accessories.ford.com/locking-fuel-plug.html

Tdefny
The Energi has it as part of an emissions control system needed to be a PZEV.
RedLdr1
.... locking caps are available http://accessories.ford.com/locking-fuel-plug.html Unfortunately those locking caps / plugs do not fit the C-Max. I have one sitting on a shelf in my garage I had used on my 2010 Flex that I thought I could reuse. The C-Max has a really weird filler and neck, that is why Ford supplied a funnel in case you ever need to add fuel from a gas can.... rfruth
My Fusion hybrid doesn't have a weird filler and neck (that I know of) and it came with a funnel,, just curious whats different about the C-Max ? (Energi PZEV yes).
Tdefny
The new Fords don't have a gas cap. They use a different system that is actually pretty cool (unless you are in the habit of using the cap to hold the gas pump open because they disable the latch in your State, figuring that people can't figure it out). You simply open the cover and insert the nozzle. The problem comes for those of us who are used to an internal relase on the cover, which would make it a little more difficult to steal the gas from the tank. I was a little disappointed when I first saw that, but I figured nobody has done that since the 70s until the storm hit and there were long gas lines everywhere. I was then pleasantly surprized when I saw the Energi because it has an internal release. As mentioned above, it is part of the emissions control package. Ford undoubtedly left it out of the SE and SEL models because the higher level of emissions would probably lower expected MPG and they needed spectacular numbers to claim any of the market share from Toyota. StoBro2
Don't pretty much all newer cars come with an anti-siphoning valve down near the bottom of the filler neck? I doubt anyone could get a tube into the tank of the C-Max to siphon the fuel. A locking gas cap would prevent someone from adding fuel or some contaminant to the tank, if your concerned about that. zhackwyatt
I heard that most people were just jamming a screwdriver into the tank and draining it from the bottom. Seems easier to do than to siphon anyways.

Yep...I look at a locking gas cap as more to control what goes in rather than getting the gas out...
Tdefny
I never thought of that.
