Major Navigation Failure

My Energi is now nearly 4 years old.  After getting the Nav module replaced within a month of buying it (my YouTube video of that problem has over 10,000 views) the navigation has worked flawlessly until last night. I drove 10 miles with it working fine, and upon starting the return trip it started fine, and I adjusted the zoom a couple of times, then within a few blocks the location shown started to drift off, with the direction of the car also not correct.

 

Eventually the location shown was 1-3 miles from my true location. The odd thing was the car was shown on actual streets but not moving in the same direction, unlike my original problem which had the car shown 100-200' feet from its true location.  After getting home I shut off the car and restarted, but it still showed my location as several miles away.

 

So, has anyone seen this problem? Is there any reboot procedure for the Navigation that might fix it?  If its the module again, how much does Ford charge to replace it?

 

UPDATE: I just started the car after it sitting all night and the navigation is showing the correct location.  I will drive it today and see if it acts up again, but let's all hope it was just a Russian hack of the GPS system last night!

 

UPDATE 2: Drove around with no GPS problems today.  That was a pretty weird event.  Thanks for the cost info. I would probably try to do a DIY if it were a permanent problem.

Probably just some Sync glitch.

 

As far as replacing the GPS Module, My best guess is that a dealer might charge $200-300.

 

But, as far as the real world, I recall the module being about $30-50, and would take maybe half an hour to swap for anyone familiar with the dash(you pull the gauge assembly, then the module.  I think you might need to plug into the computer for a minute before and/or after as well.)

I've had the nav on my Energi get confused a couple of times, usually associated with a sharp turn under power, and going fast.  The worst case was that it completely missed a highway interchange transition and tracked the westbound highway until I turned off the northbound highway, about ten miles later.

 

Being a software developer, I'm guessing that it's trying to follow the highway (like it will through a tunnel) and the dead reckoning overrides the actual GPS report for too long.

I had some weird nav glitches a while ago. I removed the gps module and used some contact cleaner on the module and the harness. All has been good since. Something to look at when electronic glitches show up.

I usually keep the right hand screen of the instrument cluster showing Nav data (like the supped up version of the regular Ford Compass) and had "Navigation Fault - see touchscreen" show up after starting the engine a few days ago.  I think it's happened maybe twice in the lifetime of the car.  After about 15-20 seconds I guess the GPS was able to supply good data again because everything started working fine.  I've had it go off course 2-3 times in 30,000 mi but typically it's the slowness of the interface rather than the accuracy that I complain about.

Well, at least it can find POIs. The Nav in my 2016 Jetta is so bad that the process to find a POI is to look it up on my phone and then enter the street address!  :(
