Is Ford currently supporting MFT and SYNC2? Will Ford support MFT & SYNC2 in the future?

Recommended Posts

I drive a 2013 C-MAX Hybrid SEL with MFT / SYNC2 - v3.8.  I recently noticed a problem related to selecting nearby POIs using the steering wheel controls.    Specifically, when selecting POI categories on the dash, the list displayed is the same list of categories, and not a list of POI destinations.  For example, when I select Fuel Stations, I get a brief "please wait" message and the display flips back to the category list.  I never see the list of nearby fuel stations.  This issue does not occur when using the MFT touch screen.  According to  (http://outofmytouch.com), this bug has been around as far back as September, 2013, almost THREE years ago from today.

Is Ford currently supporting MFT and SYNC2?  Will Ford support MFT & SYNC2 in the future?  How do owners of MFT / SYNC2 vehicles get fixes to known and documented hardware and/or software issues?

Dealer performed a "cluster update" today.  It fixed problem described earlier but now there is another, new problem.  My Home no longer knows its own address.  System returns a "No Match" message.  It seems that this problem is unrelated to SYNC2 - v3.8 software.  I may drop this.  Not worth another trip to, and 3+ hours at, the dealership.

Some of my thinking.

My experience with SYNC is when I have had a problem the dealer would update the software and if that fixed it good, otherwise live with it.  When I first bought the car my phone did not work.  My solution ended up buying a new phone.  An experience playing mp3s was handled in a similar way, but I was shown a work around.

I don't really think Ford supported that software any more than fixing the really really bad stuff.  The problem is that it is really Microsoft's software and it can be hard to modified and fix someone else's software(and bottomless pit expensive unless you have really smart programmers).  Ford's solution with the version in the 2016's is dump Microsoft (http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1101699_fords-sync-3-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly).  It was kind of a damage control situation.

I suspect the battery problems with the 2013 SE may be related to the out of controlness of SYNC.

(SYNC is kind of a version of MFT for the cheaper sound system)

I think the system learns your home based on the GPS - which takes some time? Also, you can name the home in the power settings display. Or maybe I did it with MFM, it has been a while.

Can't find it quickly now, but somewhere in these forums it was revealed that for 2013's at least, just turn the car on and off 11 times in row in the same location to set the 'Home' GPS location for EV+ use. This may or may not be related to the Navigation feature. I believe it can also store a second 'Work' location for using EV+ to maximize fuel economy, but it cannot be too close to the original 'Home', a distance of several miles, at least.

Can't speak for newer models, we own a 2013 SE without Nav.

I would suspect that you can set the "Home" address in the navigation settings somewhere, I'll have to take a look at mine when I am in the car next time.  Easy to imagine that when the dealer reprogrammed it reset some of the personalized settings.

You can set the "Home" location in the navigation settings, but that has nothing to do with EV+ mode.

EV+ mode is just something it does on it's own seemingly based on how many times you stop at the same location.  Mine picked up home within a week.  Didn't even realize it had created one for work as well till months later, but I don't know how quickly it created it.

EV+ seems to pick up any location where you frequently end a trip (turn the car off). I believe this is to avoid starting the engine just when you are about to turn the car off.  I recently started dropping my dog off every day on the way to work. In less than a week, it had flagged it as an EV+ location.
