Me too. -
I was getting in the low to middle 50's when I was there the end of Dec. with my Grill Covers on. You can expect 2-4MPG improvement look at 3MPG gained with Grill Cover threads in Fuel Mileage forum.

There is a fordcmaxenergiforum.com were the ENERGI guys go.
-
Actually because AC needs air to go thru condenser to cool it and that heat goes thru radiator making it hotter.
-
I believe FORD has over cooled the ICE and if you didn't need to use the AC you could leave the covers on all year long for city driving. This is why I make a second cover for the top grill with a cut out . You still end up with aerodynamic improvement while still letting air into radiator. The thermostat is fully open at 202deg.F. Shutters start opening at 190deg.F and are fully open at 213deg.F You can remove lower cover for AC use if needed. Bottom line is you will always gain 1-2mpg at least no matter what the temp is on the hwy Mileage. ScanGauge is a good tool for improving mileage.

You can gain a few more with Grill Covers.

The reason the GPH is high is you have a Lithium ion battery with about twice the capacity of the Prius and it can be charged faster too. This takes alot of power from ICE for a short time. I have been able to get 70%EV Mod around town which leaves 30% of the time for fast charging. I believe FORD has over cooled the ICE and if you didn't need to use the AC you could leave the covers on all year long for city driving. If you have all the grill openings blocked off I don't know what else you can do. The thermostat is fully open at 202deg.F. Maybe Oil pan heater or engine block heater would help.

Good Job but you need to close off the hole thing, you're safe to 70deg.F anyway. If the temp gauge doesn't go to the middle it means you are not getting to180deg.F and you need to get to 206deg.F. If you are worried get a ScanGauge and you will see exactly what temp you are at. You wouldn't believe how cold the ICE runs. Then you will want some Grill Covers. :)

Go to the 3MPG gained threads in Mileage forum and it will answer your questions. Just put Grill Covers on your car.

I don't know where all the leakage comes from but the covers do the job. They also keep snow out of grills. Set My View to impower on left side and water temp gauge on right. The first line is 140deg.F the middle is 180-216+deg.F. 206deg. is ideal for best MPG's.

All that matters is that you keep improving.
-
Well that explains why my two trip screens don't look the same. LOL
-
I had it happen once and it was my fault, I think I left the accessory on over night. I charged it for 10min. and started it with charger still connected. Removed the charger as soon as it started. Not bad. It happened a couple of months ago.
-
Why wait get Grill Covers and oil pan heater now. I thought you are on Fuelly but no signature/badge?
-
Apparently their odometers are off by 25% instead of 1.5%. LOL :) I don't think they were motivated to do good or Toyota paid them off, times are tuff out there and they needed the money.BTW you probably could have made 20mi if you had Grill Covers. :)
-
LOL right!

I didn't see your thread until after I started new thread. Mine was 608.6mi GPS corrected which makes us very close. Good Job!
-
I have gone 608.6mi on 12.87gal, 47.3MPG, has anyone gone farther?
-
My last fillup was 536.5mi GPS corrected ,11.9gal., 45.1MPG, 50%city and 50Deg.F average temp. Post what kind of improvement you think you have gained.
-
You are an excellent candidate For Grill Covers, check out 3mpg gain with grill covers threads in mileage forum.
-
I saw 30deg.F rise at WT sensor with other heating pad probably 60-80deg.F at oil pan. I don't expect a big difference but I'm sure it would help and so easy to do.
-
Would you buy the CMax if the advertised MPG was below 47/47?

Look at all the 3mpg gained posting in Mileage forum, a lot of info there. One of our members is in Maine and likes the Grill Covers. -
I did my test on one hundred miles and GPS had 101.44mi. At 8700mi I need to check my tread depth. I just measured and I have 9/32 the spec say 9.5/32 so I've lost 1/32 in 8700mi. WOW. At this rate they will last 50k anyway. I'm going my odometer on my next trip to see if there is any change. BTW just filled up 45MPG average temp 50deg.F. Tested FFH today and it was off 2%

Wolverine Model 9 is $56 on amazon and takes 15-30min to install. Maybe not as good but a step in the right direction. :)
