You will, It is amazing the difference between the 20's and 70's about 10mpg you can see it on my gas mileage graph posted earlier.

You didn't say what the temps where so I'm guessing 50degs so you lost 4mpg for temps and your effective speed was 85-90mph so 30mpg sounds about right. Aero drag goes up exponentially. So if you slowed down to 60mph you would probably be getting 40mpg. Do you ever notice that winds are rarely tail windsand when they are they only last at most a hundred miles.

Just-A-CMax I see your last fill up was 49.3mpg good job. :happy feet:

I'm sure they tested them at the Yucca FORD Proving grounds off I40 in western Arizona. I have driven by and flown over many times. They will use I40 for testing Ford trucks towing their funny trailers too.

The other 8-9 months you can use the center cutout cover to improve hwy mileage. There seems to be some miss conception that the covers are only for winter time which is not true. You could use full Grill Covers all year around if all you did was city driving and didn't use AC. That's a little tough when it's 100+ degrees outside but the point is it would improve MPG's. ICE efficiency is best with water temp 202-214deg.F which is a long way from 100deg.F. City driving the ICE should be only running about 30% of the time so 70% it's cooling off and you would be getting 60mpg too.

I thought there was a post on that from MikeB.

Mike Fitzpatrick FORD has CMAX SEL in stock just came in if anyone is interested.
-
Grill Covers will get you 2-4mpg more if your interested.

It's no wonder you need to have someone fill your tank, you don't do it often enough to remember how to do it! :)

It is curious that the hybrid has 2mi range and the energi has 20mi range with only a battery that is 5x the capacity.

Did you blook off both grills? -
I believe the Adaptive Cruise uses Radar which transmits thru plastic. If I could figure out where the sensor is on my wife's Explorer I'd try it out.
-
Did you top off? I ran out of gas and filled up to first click, it took 13.86gal. and was about 30mi past 0mte.
-
RedLdr1 are you interested in doing some grill cover testing on FFH?

That would change if we could charge our battery at home and work with 120vac. Are you using oil pan or block heater? I don't remember whether you were using grill cover of some kind. -

Do you think you will be able to see mpg improvement at 86deg.F? -
I ran mine out of gas on purpose but had 2gal of gas on board which I didn't need. I ran out about 100 yards from gas station so I EV it over. 13.86gals is the magic number or 13.09gal on trip gauge. 12.5 on trip is safe, I have done it several times.

CMAX mileage is going to keep going up thru summer and fall and will end up being similar to Prius V with better city and not quite as high hwy (aerodynamics). Then add in Grill Covers for a couple more MPG's better than Prius V. CMAX drives like a regular car not a Prius.

EPA evaluating how it rates gas mileage for hybrids
ptjones replied to ScooterS's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
With the CMAX the temp has as much an effect as driving style on FE. Then there is short trips 1-5mi that can kill FE. I doubt the EPA will come up with anything complicated, maybe more conservative approach and use 10% ethanol. When you look at Fuelly you have a range from 30 to 55mpg so some people are getting twice the FE than others. The Prius V has a range of 34 to 52mpg which may say something about drivers being previous Prius drivers. IMO I think CMAX can get better city than Prius V but probable not hwy. -

It looks like MPG's keep getting better as temps go up. So I'm thinking using my graph at 100deg.F with only center cutout Grill Cover on at 70mph I will be getting 47mpg with no Hypermiling,COOL. :) I see 700mi tank in my future! :) -
Heads up display for smart gauge.

I think we need an Heads up display then we wouldn't have to take our eyes off the road. :)

My Life Time average is 43mpg with 82% hwy and 15K mi. It sounds like your CMAX doesn't get as good as MPG's as most of us. I have tested mine at 70deg.F and it will get 40mpg at 70mph and 42mpg with Grill Covers on. I get low 50's city all the the time with 60+deg.F temps. Fuelly average is 37.8mpg and then add in .5mpg for the odometer 1.5% =38.3mpg. By this summer I expect the average to go up to 40+mpg with warmer temps.

With 15k mi on the car I know what my brake score is going to be, My Lifetime is 98%. I can tell when mech. brakes are being applied, it feels a little different.
